As 2023 Winds Down, 2024 Peaks Around The Corner

Good morning, from my office nestled between two stadiums in Seattle. It’s quiet here at 0600, as it’s been all week.

News-wise, it’s been kind of a sleeper. Oh, there’s the usual pile of bullshit that really doesn’t capture my attention any more, I tend to look for the stuff that kind of stands out a bit from the usual fare of political nonsense. I especially love a good headline. Here’s the meager pile I’ve collected for you this morning:

Headlines That Caught My Eye This Morning

Item 1: Israel readies for war on 7 fronts as attacks recorded in neighboring countries

Israel finds itself in a damned if it does, and damned if it doesn’t situation right now, and IMHO, it is mostly of Israel’s own doing — more specifically, because of the actions of one Benjamin Netanyahu and his mad desire to remain in power over the past ten years or so. I know this is an unpopular opinion here, but it hasn’t been Israel at fault, just the actions and inactions of the government.

Item 2: Israeli Soldier Dies of Superbug Infection From Contaminated Gaza Soil

I was wondering when that would happen. Gaza is literally a cesspool, kept that way by the occupation and blockades.

Item 3: John Fetterman isn’t the politician you thought he’d be — and he doesn’t care

The more I hear from Fetterman, the more I like the guy

Item 4: Pizza Hut to lay off thousands of California workers

Wait, what? Pizza Hut is still in business? And they still do their own deliveries? WHY?

Item 5: Abortion Activists Are Winning

Well… DUH. The majority of Americans were against the overturning of Roe, and I suspect that this sentiment will really show up in the 2024 election cycle.

Item 6: Michigan Supreme Court rejects ‘insurrectionist ban’ case and keeps Trump on 2024 primary ballot

Personally, I would have waited until after Trump was convicted before keeping his fat ass off the ballot.

Item 7: Trump Is Testing the Bounds of Presidential Immunity—and Losing

Presidential immunity only attaches if the the activity in question were part of the official duties of the presidency. Campaigning for the office is NOT an official duty of the POTUS, and neither is Trump’s after-election activities to try and overturn the outcome of that election. It’s a pretty simple concept that I am constantly amazed at the inability of some people not to understand that concept.
