Good morning from my office stashed between two stadiums in Seattle. It’s going to be a bit of extra madness here today — Seattle is doing the Thursday Night Football thing tonight. The trucks started showing up here five days ago, and all the sports crews have been staying here for the past two nights.

I don’t know why the Thursday Night Football production is any different than say, the normal Sunday game days. I think overall there have been almost thirty of these tractor-trailer rigs for this event.

Me? I plan on being out of here by noon. In case you haven’t picked up on this before, but I actually hate being around a lot of people, and I especially hate Seattle drivers and traffic. So if I can avoid all three, I am a happy person. I may even schlep out of here around 0900, if I can.

I am not going to be able to ignore the political stuff today. There’s just too much of it. It would be almost criminal not to bring it up. (“There oughtta be a law…”)

When the Wind Blows

It is hurricane season. As sure as the sun comes up every day, when it comes to the Fall weather, a hurricane will blow. More than likely several of them, and they will almost always cause grief to those who live in the usual pathways.

More than 3 million customers without power across Florida after Hurricane Milton roared ashore

Hurricane Milton roared ashore on Wednesday evening as a Category 3 hurricane, but the life-threatening impacts are far from over as power outages spike and heavy rain sparks flooding.

MAGA Disinformation Could Kill MAGA Believers

There is a difference between “misinformation” and “disinformation”. The former is where someone doesn’t have the right information or is lacking important details, and the later is where someone is deliberately LYING about the information they are giving out.

The following isn’t a case where these fucknozzles simply don’t have the right information, this is a case where they are deliberately attempting to deceive their followers.

The MAGA Maniacs Are Going All In on Deranged Hurricane Conspiracies

Fountain of Ooze

It’s the Jews! It’s the deep state! It’s anything but a natural weather occurrence made much worse by climate change!

First, they tried to claim that FEMA was a deep-state ideological op, and that didn’t work. So then, the hard-core MAGA-ratchiks moved on to the real center of action for the omnipotent cabal pushing American history leftward: control of the weather. Taking the lead of that reliable arbiter of rational discourse, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, they began, as Florida prepared for the landfall of Hurricane Milton, to sound the alarm that the fierce succession of destructive hurricanes battering the Southeast was all orchestrated from on high—and from the sinister, power-grabbing left. As reeling communities in the path of Hurricane Helene started to dig out from the damage last week, Greene repaired to her X account to alert her million-plus followers: “Yes they can control the weather. It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done.”

Greene’s demented, undocumented assertion at first seemed a sideshow to the crisis, calling to mind her infamous declaration that the 2018 wildfires in California were actually the handiwork of Jewish space lasers. (It’s worth noting that the legions of weather conspiracists on the right have also taken up this ugly side of Greene’s misinformation career, inundating Jewish officials involved in the Helene rescue effort with a steady barrage of online hate, to the point where they now fear for their safety.)

Emotional North Carolina Man Blames Trump for MAGA Father-in-Law Refusing Hurricane Help Over FEMA Conspiracy: ‘It’s A Cult!’

An emotional North Carolina man blamed former President Donald Trump for his father-in-law’s refusal to get help from FEMA due to conspiracy theories.

A man identifying as Anthony called into the Dan Abrams Show on SiriusXM where he revealed that his father-in-law in Asheville, North Carolina, has refused help from FEMA and “it is actually breaking up our family.”

Anthony told Abrams that his wife’s father believes FEMA is “going to take his house” if he accepts assistance following the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Misinformation being spread online has slowed FEMA’s efforts to provide relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene. Trump himself is responsible for spreading some false allegations about the relief effort by claiming the Biden administration has allocated “almost all of the FEMA money to illegal migrants.”

When Abrams suggested Anthony show his father-in-law information debunking conspiracies surrounding FEMA, the emotional caller replied, “He just believes Trump.”

MTG doubles down on weather modification conspiracy theory despite experts rubbishing ‘hurricane control’

Marjorie Taylor Greene has doubled down on her debunked claim that the government can control the weather just as millions of Floridians brace for Hurricane Milton.

The Republican from Georgia claimed last week that “they” can control the weather after Hurricane Helene killed more than two dozen people in her state and more than 230 across the US. While she did not clarify who “they” was at the time, Joe Biden said the idea the federal government controlled the weather was “beyond ridiculous”.

“Yes they can control the weather,” she wrote on X last week. “It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done.”

Then, on Wednesday, Greene posted a follow-up to her initial claim to clarify: “Everyone keeps asking, ‘who is they?’”

“Well some of them are listed on NOAA, as well as most of the ways weather can be modified…If your home or business or property is damaged or a loved one is killed by their weather modifications shouldn’t you be eligible for compensation?” Greene wrote.

Both Trump and his running mate have been demonstrably lying about the federal government responses to these last two hurricanes. Most of the Trumpublicans complaining about a fabled lack of FEMA response are the very same idiotsticks who just voted against FEMA funding for these hurricanes. They are also the same idiotsticks who are now claiming credit for the infrastructure spending in each of their states — even though each and every one of them voted against the infrastructure bill they are now claiming credit for. Since most people don’t pay all that close of attention to the news unless there is an upcoming election, most of those people wouldn’t know they are being lied to.

But they are being lied to.

Remember when Joe Biden was too old and demented to run?

Trump calls Maine Gov. Janet Mills a man in a mistake-riddled call to supporters, newspaper reports

BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Republican Donald Trump mixed up Democratic Gov. Janet Mills’ gender on a phone call with supporters in Maine, The Bangor Daily News reported Tuesday.

The newspaper obtained a recording of the call in which Trump attacked Mills on immigration, saying the governor is going to turn Maine into a “third world” country. Trump was trying to energize voters on Monday, the first day of early voting in the state.

Trump referred to the state’s first female governor as “he” several times while accusing her of seeking to “resettle 75,000 migrants” at the behest of the Biden administration. “He’s weak and ineffective, and they told him to do so, and he’s saying, ‘Yes, sir. Yes, ma’am. I will do it,’” Trump said, referring to Mills, who’s serving a second term.

There has been an increasing number of these “gaffes” by Trump since Joe Biden shuffled off the set. People ARE leaving his rallies early because they can see how his rambling noises are no longer making sense to many of them. Maybe some of them are actually waking up to the fact that there is NOTHING Trump has said in the past six months that has anything to do with making the lives of everyday Americans any better. If you listen closely, you will notice that everything is about HIM, and very little about you or I — unless we are one of his personal “enemies”, or belong to some kind of enemy class, such as “The Democrats”.

If you shower Trump with praise and kiss his ring — he is all for you… to a point. If not, then you are one of his ‘enemies’ and you get nothing but his disdain and threatened vengeance.

We’re not supposed to notice this…

“July 18, 2024 The day God intervened”

Horseshit. “God” had nothing to do with any of this. Trump never actually got ‘shot’, it was close enough for a shock, but if bullet had actually nicked his ear, there would be much more ballistic damage. Instead, I suspect that his ‘injury’ was caused by the shock wave of the bullet. This would explain the lack of a visible scar or damage. Does this somehow ‘excuse’ the fact that an attempt was made on the man’s life?

No, not at all. Two people did die that day, but thankfully it wasn’t more. Trump did literally ‘dodge a bullet’ that day, but “God” had zilch to do with it.

But if “He” did, what do you think “His” response would be if Trump were to create a “Bible” with the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Donald Trump’s name embossed on the face of it above
“The Holy Bible” title?

The cost to print, bind, and ship one of these “Bibles” to Trump is $3.00 per. Trump is then turning around and selling these bibles for a minimum of $59.99 + shipping and handling. If you want The Donald’s personal scribble on it, he will sell it to you for as much as $100,000.00. (I would assume that The Donald would be picking up the shipping and handling costs…)

NONE of this money is going to his campaign.

Trump has long blasted China’s trade practices. His ‘God Bless the USA’ Bibles were printed there

WASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands of copies of Donald Trump’s “God Bless the USA” Bible were printed in a country that the former president has repeatedly accused of stealing American jobs and engaging in unfair trade practices — China.

Global trade records reviewed by The Associated Press show a printing company in China’s eastern city of Hangzhou shipped close to 120,000 of the Bibles to the United States between early February and late March.

The estimated value of the three separate shipments was $342,000, or less than $3 per Bible, according to databases that use customs data to track exports and imports. The minimum price for the Trump-backed Bible is $59.99, putting the potential sales revenue at about $7 million.

[…]

Trump didn’t say where the “God Bless the USA” Bibles are printed, or what they cost; a copy hand-signed by the former president sells for $1,000. Trump also didn’t disclose how much he earns per sale.

A version of the $59.99 Bible memorializes the July 13 assassination attempt on the former president in Pennsylvania. Trump’s name is on the cover above the phrase, “The Day God Intervened.” The wording appears to have been stamped on after the Bible was produced. Trump said Saturday his would-be assassin did not succeed “by the hand of providence and the grace of God.”

The Bibles are sold exclusively through a website that states it is not affiliated with any political campaign nor is it owned or controlled by Trump.

A photo posted on the website shows Trump sitting at his desk in the Oval Office with Greenwood standing beside him. In another photo, the former president smiles broadly while holding a copy of the Bible.

Billy Graham Evangelistic Association threatens to sue Evangelicals for Harris over anti-Trump ads

Legal counsel for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association recently sent a cease-and-desist letter to Evangelicals for Harris after the political action committee rolled out a $1 million ad campaign last month using footage of the late Rev. Billy Graham to attack former President Donald Trump.

A spokesperson for the Charlotte, North Carolina-based nonprofit told The Christian Post that the organization generally avoids commenting on current or potential disputes but confirmed that Evangelicals for Harris has been threatened with a lawsuit for alleged copyright infringement.

“We have communicated directly to this group our concerns about the unauthorized, political use of BGEA’s copyrighted video, and we will continue taking appropriate steps to address the matter,” the spokesperson said.

“How dare you use our words against us!”

I’ve been saying this for YEARS

The science behind why people think they’re right when they’re so, so wrong

If you smugly believe you’re right in a disagreement with a friend or colleague, a new study suggests why you may actually be wrong.

Researchers found that people naturally assume they have all the information they need to make a decision or support their position, even when they do not.

The researchers called it the “illusion of information adequacy.”

“We found that, in general, people don’t stop to think whether there might be more information that would help them make a more informed decision,” said study co-author Angus Fletcher, a professor of English at The Ohio State University and member of the university’s Project Narrative.

Florida threatens to prosecute TV stations over abortion ad. FCC head calls it ‘dangerous’

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration is threatening to criminally prosecute Florida television stations if they do not stop running a political advertisement featuring a brain cancer patient who supports a November ballot measure that would broaden access to abortion in Florida.

But nearly a week after the state warned TV stations to pull the ad, the commercial is still running, and attorneys representing a political committee sponsoring the abortion ballot measure have issued a defiant legal letter in which they call the administration’s effort an “unconstitutional state action.”
