Yes, it is a Friday in the Realm and I am here in my office nestled between two stadiums in Seattle. It looks to be a slow day here today. Tomorrow will pick up substantially. The news is a bit strange today, I’m expecting the usual “Friday Evening News Dump” today to be even more crazy, just because of the holiday weekend.
The Headlines that Caught My Eye This Morning:
I love the “just because” part. If you relied on just the headline here, you wouldn’t understand that this story is about Republicans actively trying to block the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s list of child predators who visited his private island to pork young, underaged girls. Apparently, a number of Congresscritters are on that list. But this goes a bit deeper and touches on what both Madison Crawford and George Santos alluded to with “cocaine parties” and a whole lot of sexual encounters.
If Congress feels the need to “investigate” wrongdoing, then it should start first with itself.

Oh, I’m sure there are many more audio recordings that will shaft The Don.
Seems to be a lot of this crap going on lately. I don’t give a flying fuck whether it was ‘gay dates’ or not — wrong is wrong, and he should have been fired and blackballed.

These Republican committee chairs know exactly why she can’t answer their questions: Theses are ongoing cases and investigations and they do not and will not answer any questions on current, ongoing cases. But boy howdy, it is sure fun to pretend that the DOJ is ‘stonewalling’ this important Congressional investigation. Which brings me to the next headline

So the cops run their SUV into the front entrance of a gay bar as they are closing up, narrowly missing one of the co-owners, and the co-owner gets arrested and held under no bail hold for ‘assaulting’ the cop.

Chip Roy, bless his heart, literally begged his caucus to give him ONE thing they’ve accomplished over the past year that he can campaign on. I can’t think of anything, can you?
The Republican-controlled House hasn’t accomplished anything other than squabbling over who is going to be Speaker, and opening up several fake “investigations” and an impeachment inquiry with no underlying ‘crime’, or even evidence that supports that ‘crime’.
All of the hot-button issues that we, as a country, currently face, Republicans want no part of. They will complain until the cows come home about the mess at our Southern border, and will blame Joe Biden for that mess, but it is NOT Joe Biden’s job to fix the problems at the border, it is the job of CONGRESS.
I don’t think there is a person alive who doesn’t understand that we have a SERIOUS immigration and border problem that has needed immediate attention for about forty fucking years. Both Republicans AND Democrats in Congress want to kick the can down the road and let some future Congress deal with it.
Every time a president tries to unilaterally ‘fix’ the problem with Executive Orders, they usually end up in court because they really don’t have the authority to make laws like that. They also end up violating the US Constitution or conflicts with some other existing law, and it all gets unwound.
But that doesn’t stop the Party of Grievance from complaining about it non-stop.
Jesus Fucking Christ. Instead of the stupid pet tricks Congress is currently performing, maybe just shit-can all the stupid partisan bullshit and actually start working in a comprehensive border and immigration policy for the 21st Century. Also maybe address the issue where over a half-million American citizens are living on the streets today, unable to afford a fucking place to live in this great country of ours.
There are SO many things Congress could — and should be doing right now, but they are all hung up on stupid shit.
Item 10: Detainees to be paid minimum wage after Wash. Supreme Court ruling
Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, Washington is a private holding facility run by GEO Group (formerly Wackenhut). The NWDC is the holding facility for ICE to house migrants who are in administrative custody waiting for a determination of their immigration status. They are being held for an indeterminate amount of time, and are not incarcerated for any crimes.
GEO has been using these detainees to do the essential work of running a 1600-bed detention center. They cook, clean, and provide maintenance — for a dollar a day, which is in violation of Washington State’s minimum wage laws. Now GEO Group is required to pay $17 million in back wages and taxes to these detainees.
