Good morning from my Hunker-Bunker overlooking the Puget Sound in West Seattle Washington, in the Loosely Connected States of America. It is a Wednesday in the place and I’ve decided that you need something different here for the moment. I know that I certainly need it. And that’s what really matters: Everything is about me, doncha know? 😉

I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos lately. My new living room TV is a HiSense Google TV, so in addition to the usual streaming channels such as Netflix and Hulu, etc, YouTube has a prominent view on the menu. I watch a lot of YouTube videos on coding and Artificial Intelligence modeling, so when I turn my TV on the first thing I see is a shitload of coding videos I haven’t seen yet.

I’ve also been watching a lot of the music reaction videos on YouTube. It’s fun to watch someone discover an old classic rock band from the 60s and 70s for the first time. On Fridays, I catch the “Fridays with Frank” video of the traffic cop in Arizona giving out traffic tickets. Then there are the short videos on FaceCrack that most people scroll by.

Those are the videos I am going to share with you today. (Isn’t that much better than being reminded of that other thing going on?)

This is a fairly large, and eclectic group of videos that I collected this morning from my FaceCrack. They fall into one or more of these categories:

  • It was funny,
  • it was interesting,
  • it was stupid,
  • all of the above

Without further ado…

Are Chinese Trucks Good?

I’ve had the opportunity to drive one of these trucks in British Columbia a few weeks ago, and if you were to compare it with one of those idiotic-looking Cyber Trucks, this has it beat hands-down. I have no idea how durable over time one of these vehicles will be, but I can tell you that they feel well-built and drive quite well.

Since most people driving pickups are basically posers when it comes to actually needing or using a pickup, I am sure that if BYD were to gain a foothold in the US, they would be a threat to the status quo.

But is that actually a bad thing? No, if anything, competition spurs creativity and innovation. We need more of that.

Flipper Zero

I bought a Zipper back in February. This thing will do some fairly scary things if you know how to exploit things. I love to exploit systems. I was picking locks and cracking safes in junior high school. Locks and security can only keep honest people honest. Everything is exploitable, and knowing where the exploits are can help you secure yourself even better. But there is nothing in the world that can’t be exploited given enough time and opportunity.

“Free” Energy Generator

Friction is a bitch. Removing the generator and its load, the perpetual motion of the wheel will eventually slow down and stop. Just the friction alone on the pillow block bearings and the spring bearings will cause the wheel to slow over time. The weight of the wheel will eventually bring it to a halt.

Adding a generator creates a drag on the motion, causing the wheel to slow down faster. If you put a load on the generator, it creates resistance and becomes even more of a drag on the motion of the wheel. It will eventually stop unless you reintroduce motion from time to time.

The Origins of Phrases

I love to learn about the origins of words and phrases. Such as the phrase, “rule of thumb”, a rule to describe the thickness of the stick you were allowed to beat your wife with. You were not allowed to beat your wife with a stick thicker than your thumb.

The only disagreement I have is FedEx. They won’t even take the time to deliver it to your doorstep most of the time. Fedex left a brand new dishwasher on the sidewalk in front of my house because the driver didn’t want to go up some steps with it (or drive around the back to the alley where the instructions said to go.

I will bet that none of you have paid attention to this…

QFC (Kroger) has been known to fudge on their meat weights also. But not quite as bad as this video is showing. If you complain to the manager, they will give it to you for half-off. But since most people don’t pay that close of attention, it means that the store has been getting away with price theft for a long time.
