Have I mentioned lately that Hosting Matters absolutely SUCKS?

Oh, that’s right, I couldn’t — this site lost the connection to the database last week, and it took almost six days for Hosting Matters to figure its shit out.  And even then, there are still problems.

For example, I may or may not be able to post this.  If I am able to post, I can guarantee that I won’t be able to edit it again.

We’ll see how long it stays up this time.

  1. I see issues as well. If it wasn’t so cheap I’d probably jump to a new service. I suspect the server’s are over subscribed and they need to look into moving databases to their own servers/VM’s.

    1. Well, to be fair, Misha hasn’t been to his cPanel in over a year, and I suspect that even then he didn’t bother to upgrade the various components. I suspect the only reason this site recently got an upgrade on its php was because the old one had completely dropped off the list, and it defaulted to a current version. There are still a few other Apache issues that need resolving — and that takes cPanel access as well.

I haven’t had that access here in YEARS, and the last time I talked to Misha he told me that he lost the password… Then I never heard from him again. It’s been a year or so.

When this site first started failing, I went ahead and signed up for an account directly on WordPress.com. I paid for a ‘Creator Account’ which gave me complete control to my entire site. It’s a pretty snappy site, using the same frame as this one.

      Really? Seriously?

If and when this site stumbles again, I have a script set up that will automatically redirect traffic to my other site.

It’s a crapshoot whether anyone will be able to post anything to the front page or not. When I posted this yesterday, I tried to edit it later, and it would not allow the edit. I know it is a mod_security issue in Apache, but I can’t do a damn thing about it.
