Chicago, that windy city on a smelly plain, governed by the ‘D’ party uninterrupted since 1927, has pulled one of it’s rare sleight of hand moves on the “beloved” first black lesbian mayor, though perhaps not the last in politics.
Lightfoot came in third place, with just 17.1% of the vote — former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas came in first with 33.95% and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson came in second with 20.32%.
Now comes the battle royale between two solid Democrat apparatchiks. One is an avowed communist and the other a well entrenched machine politician (you don’t get to run the biggest failing school system in the nation without being one). The only aspect of passing interest in this is now whether melanin levels play a role within the “D” ecosphere..

Why do we care you ask? Well. 40 years ago this writer would travel from “Hicksville” to downtown and burbs for a good weekend of entertainment, food and occasional shopping, things no longer safe to do unless you are into being the recipient of robbery, carjacking, assaults on your person or random bullets traversing space you occupy, not to mention mob action on those shopping areas.
This is kind of an epitaph for the third largest city in the nation, an island of blue insanity in the Midwest. Of course they also elected a corruptocrat as Governor of IL on the last round, so there.
Oh! Chicago, rest in ashes, you are missed but not with much regret.
An update of sorts – my wife who hails from the Chicago area (left it back in the early 60’s) has just advised that the person that really runs Chicago is this one: https://www.cookcountyil.gov/all-people/toni-preckwinkle Also that “the Preck” got Lightfoot elected and then was crossed by her, hence the resounding loss this week. Just for giggles, apparently “the Preck”TM only… Read more »
Lori Lightfoot was a fairly good federal prosecutor. So was I, for that matter, but I would have made a terrible mayor and obviously, so did Lightfoot. I have pretty much the same opinion as you have provided, only having lived here within 100 miles of Chicago for over 40 years (and 7 in NY State before), allowing ringside seats to it all the doings and goings on since Daley Senior was in charge, Chicago and maybe NY and NJ are fairly unique in that the operate… Read more »
I should add to my previous comment regarding former US prosecutors going into politics. Our previous mayor here in Seattle had been an Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) here in Seattle. She was GREAT in her position as US Attorney, but she was an absolute shit storm of a mayor. I’ve seen other former US prosecutors go into politics, and each… Read more »
