Good morning from my office stuffed between two stadiums in Seattle. It is a Saturday morning, a pay day, and after paying off all of my bills, I am astonished to see that I still have most of it left. I am sure that the siren of Amazon will be calling to me with some kind of “deal” that I should learn to resist.
Last night I went cruising through my various streaming services on Roku, and stumbled across a documentary on Prime called “Bad Faith“.
The current day assault on democracy did not begin with Trumpism. It did not begin with the Tea Party. It did not begin with the Moral Majority. It did not even begin in this century. The current day assault on democracy began with the White Supremacy Movement in the 1960’s as part of a shrewd, calculated, and well executed plan that became cloaked as a religious movement.
This really explains how Donald Trump managed to become president in 2016 – and it had NOTHING to do with Hillary Clinton herself. In fact, if Hillary would have been a man, she would have won in a landslide. But Dominion Christianity doesn’t allow women to have any kind of leadership over a Christian man. It may also be THE reason why Kamala Harris won’t win in a couple of weeks. She is a woman, and a woman of color to boot.
Christian Nationalism — or as many of us like to call it, the ‘Christian Taliban’ didn’t get its start with Roe vs. Wade. In fact, the Supreme Court ruling on abortion wasn’t even on Republican’s radar until around 1978. No, the thing that got Christian Nationalists up in arms was the Equal Rights Amendment. THIS could not stand with the Christian Nationalist movement. But unfortunately for the Christian Nationalists, the ERA wasn’t the catalyst they needed to get their movement off the ground. This is why they eventually latched upon the abortion issue five years later.
It’s an interesting show to watch, and I hope you at least have a bit of courage to sit down and watch it. I guarantee that you won’t look at politics quite the same way again.
Okay, that’s it for the political part of this post. Let’s move on to some really stupid videos I came across this morning.
