I just wanted to reach out to see how everyone is doing these days. How is life after the Rott?
Me? I’m doing great. Toolin’ around in my new Chevrolet Equinox EV RS racking up the miles and paying next to nothing for the pleasure. A few weeks ago, I took a road trip from Seattle to Missoula Montana for a couple of days and my total cost for “fuel” was a whopping $34.22 for the entire trip. Next week I am taking a trip down to Paradise Valley in California, and I am expecting a similar experience.
Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE my gas-burning and diesel-burning cars and bus, but it is an entirely new experience driving my EV.
I am on track to be completely quit of the United States on April 1st of 2026. My final act will be to drop my $55,250 check off with the US Treasury to “buy” my release out of this shithole. I’ve seriously thought of stiffing the US for this fee, because what are they going to do, come get me and haul my ass back? Not here in Canada they ain’t. Canada just dropped cooperation on income and bank reporting and have just ended the extradition agreements with the US. It won’t be much longer before the international community shitcans the US dollar as the base currency.
FAFO.
Well, enough of me. How are all ya all doin’?

Living the good life. Touring AZ with daughter and grands. One of whom is 2nd year ASU student making me officially ancient. Good on you with your plans, however I strongly recommend you keep a bridge or two intact to return to USA, say to Fl or TX or plains as IMHO there is a far greater potential for Canada to fail as a nation state than for the USA to do so. Enjoy the decline bro. Your compadre Terrapod
Canada is just a stepping stone for me. I will spend a LOT of my time traveling through Europe and anywhere else that used to be part of the British Commonwealth.
But I WILL be renouncing my US citizenship because the US can’t allow expats to exist anywhere else in the world without demanding the annual vig.
The US is the only country in the world that demands its citizens to pay taxes to the US even if we never step foot in the country again.
But as far as failed nations go, Canada is less likely to fail than the US is at this point, and there is a better than even chance that the US will continue to decline — at least for the next twenty years or so.
Yeah, the expat tax sucks, I used to perodically have to fight with a bank over taxation by witholding funds my father received from his pension. They assumed he was taxable when he was not.
Am ahead of you on the travel planning, have done UK and Eire twice since retiring, next likely Sweden and Germany for friends and before they too succumb. We shall see which of west fails first. Cheers
Have fun, DJ. Knock the moss off and polish that rolling stone of yours. I’m building my Cottage of Solitude in the Ozarks. After it’s finished, it will be the Cottage of Family Vacations and Solitude. I plan on luring the kids and grandkids with hunting, fishing, exploring and food.
