We doubt it, jaded as we are, but at least we find the reports of the results of today’s meeting to talk about a compromise promising:
President Obama and congressional leaders emerged from a White House meeting Wednesday evening with little sign of progress toward ending the government shutdown, a standstill both parties acknowledge could last weeks.
Following a 90-minute meeting, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told reporters Obama had “reiterated one more time tonight he will not negotiate.”
If the Republicans would only wrap towels around their heads and start yelling “allahu akbar”, on the other hand… Ear Leader has no trouble negotiating with (and surrendering to) them.
Boehner described the meeting — the first between the president and Capitol Hill leaders since the shutdown began Tuesday — as “nice” and “polite.” But he said ultimately Democrats should appoint conferees to negotiate a compromise.
“At some time, we’ve got to allow the process our Founders gave us to work out,” Boehner said.
NOOOOO! There they go with their blather about a Constitution that was written like, you know, a hundred years ago by slave-owning patriarchal homophobes or something!
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Fucktardia.) said Boehner “cannot take yes for an answer.”
As long as the “yes” is coming from Boehner, of course.
Has Boehner and the Surrender Caucus finally realized that they’re dead without the base that actually drives their reelection efforts? We dare not even hope, but still.
Thatisall.
