LC & IB Mike reports on an idea that seems to pop up with depressing regularity here in the no longer free America:
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) this week released a report that said taxing people based on how many miles they drive is a possible option for raising new revenues and that these taxes could be used to offset the costs of highway maintenance at a time when federal funds are short.
The report discussed the proposal in great detail, including the development of technology that would allow total vehicle miles traveled (VMT) to be tracked, reported and taxed, as well as the pros and cons of mandating the installation of this technology in all vehicles.
“In the past, the efficiency costs of implementing a system of VMT charges — particularly the costs of users’ time for slowing and queuing at tollbooths — would clearly have outweighed the potential benefits from more efficient use of highway capacity,” CBO wrote. “Now, electronic metering and billing are making per-mile charges a practical option.”
For comments on Big Brother FedGovCo’s latest reach for full, fascist control go read Mike’s, because we have nothing to add. Other than we think that the Federal Brownshirts will find it hard to install a spy chip in His Majesty’s chariot when they simultaneously need both hands to try keeping their shredded intestines from falling out of the gaping holes in their abdomens.
As to the “need to raise revenues” bullshit, they can go shove it because it is self-evidently and flat-out, bald-faced fucking lie of the first water.
If they want to use the argument that it would be “fair” to charge people taxes based on how much they drive, they already have a way of doing that. A non-intrusive way that isn’t a direct violation of our Constitutional rights:
It’s called “gas taxes” and, considering the amount of loot the parasitical fascists in DC are already extracting from us at gunpoint using that method, they can’t hardly claim that they hadn’t thought about that. You see, the more you drive, the more gas you use. The more gas you use, the more gas taxes you pay. Simple, no?
But that’s not what they really want, obviously, because if you think for a second that the only thing those chips they want to implant, at gunpoint, in your vehicles will report on is your mileage, then we’ve got several plots of prime oceanfront property in Arizona that we’ll give you a really good price on.
Fucking liberal brownshirts. This nation desperately needs a heavy dose of de-Nazification. The old fashioned kind. You know: Ropes, trees, fascists… Some assembly required.
Thatisall.
