This year Veterans Day shares the week with the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a moment that started the end of the Cold War. It was a moment that many of us didn’t see at the time for what it was, our victory over the Evil Empire. We had won.

But yet there was no peace. In truth there never has been. There is always an enemy, whether the one you are directly engaging, or the one lurking over the horizon waiting to destroy you, mankind has never known peace.

So there has always been a need for those who will step up and face the wolf, in the vain hope that when they are done there will be no more, but knowing that there will be another.

So on this Veterans Day I wish to thank all of my fellow vets who stepped up and faced the wolf, and pray that one day there will no longer be a need for men like us.
