My friends, I must first apologize for being absent from the front page for too long. My life has been full of changes these last several months, and these changes continue to challenge me. Taking a little time away from them today has reminded me that the issues I must contend with myself pale in contrast to those that afflict this greatest of nations, and with the insight that often comes from adversity I realize that my salvation and that of our people are inextricably linked.
Like the apocryphal story of Lincoln, who when asked what he would do if he had eight hours to chop down the greatest tree in the forest, said, “I would spend the first seven hours sharpening the axe”, I believe that the success of those of us who oppose the evils that creep among us will depend on our own preparation. For me, this preparation lies in the realm of ideas and language.
Words have great power. By their clever and deceitful use, our statist enemies convince the weak-minded among us that conservatives are their enemies, and that the very ideas from which this nation was birthed are radical, destructive and selfish. Our enemies put forth positions that could not stand up to any serious scrutiny, secure in the realization that the scrutiny will only come from an adversary they have already discredited. We must in turn strengthen our own language, as Lincoln sharpened the axe, and be more mindful of the power of words to convey meaning.
I suspect that the number of Americans who are starting to detect the smell of decay is larger than most of us realize, and growing. It is our role, I believe, to ensure that those now awakening to this nightmare are given the tools with which to comprehend, and to join the growing army of thought leaders and role models who are the true inheritors of the Founders. To that end, I would like to share with you an interesting video I recently discovered, which has given me some things to think about. I hope you find it informative as well, and if it helps to shape your own understanding, even better. This comes from The Truth Project, and their treatment of the alignment between faith, spirituality, morality and the historical success of western civilization (notably America) is worth the ten minutes.
