The ChiComs, ever desperate to show the rest of the world how bad-ass their crappy “Made in China” Wal*Mart technology is, are apparently ripping off old Top Gun footage to show off their new Sooper Fighter (with beef and flied lice), the J-10. (h/t LC Tremor).
In the footage, the J-10 allegedly shoots down an F-5 and, in a show of quite remarkable coincidence, the F-5 in the ChiCom propaganda footage blows up in the exact same way, right down to the explosion and debris cloud, as a movie F-5 blown out of the skies by Tom Cruise in Top Gun.
We’re sure that the Butchers of Beijing will explain to us shortly that it’s a design feature of the F-5. It simply cannot blow up any other way.
The rest of us, in the meantime, will be laughing our arses off.

That’s pretty arrogant, even by Middle Kingdom standards. I guess the commissars thought we wouldn’t notice. Or they just don’t care. The loss of face will sting, but the Chinese will manufacture another incident, if one doesn’t come along naturally, to put us gweilos in our place. Count on it.
Their mistake was in splicing in footage from Top Gun – a motion picture that millions of people are very familiar with.
