Art Imitating Life

How many of y’all watched “V” on ABC  Tuesday? How many of you remember the original TV mini-series “V”? I had watched the original and loved the allegories to the resistance against the Nazi’s in WWII, as well as seeing citizens resist tyranny. That’s why I was pumped about the remake, although a little surprised, even suspicious, that one of Obama’s loyal lap dogs would be running a mini series that obviously takes some not so subtle swipes at the Cult of Teh One™.

Seems I’m not the only one.

Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.

The news media swoons in admiration — one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: “Why don’t you show some respect?!” The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader’s origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: “Embracing change is never easy.”

Pretty obvious who that’s aimed at, ain’t it?

So, does that sound like anyone you know? Oh, wait — did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who’s come here to eat us?

And yer point is…? Still ain’t that far of a stretch.

Welcome to ABC’s “V,” the most fascinating and bound to be the most controversial new show of the fall television season. Nominally a rousing sci-fi space opera about alien invaders bent on the conquest (and digestion) of all humanity, it’s also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the president’s supporters and delight his detractors.

Which is why I’m already hooked 🙂

There truly are some very pointed jabs at Teh Cult, liberally sprinkled(pun intended) throughout the story of the world’s willing descent into Fascism . If the rest of the series is as good as the first episode, then my dear friends my dance card for Tuesday nights is full for awhile.

Yeah, sure. You just try to pass that one on to Bangie. Even she knows what next Tuesday is.

a TV series that barbs Teh One? It’s gotta be a scam. I read bits about it here and there, and even though I didn’t see any of it, I guess the initial impressions are true. I predict that mid-season, they work in some kind of global warming angle and the “V” turns out to be the best thing for mankind. Color me skeptical

The best line of the premiere was Scott Wolf asking Anna, “Universal health care?”

    Take that, Zero!

She sure does Mopester, which is why the fridge will be well stocked with the brew of my preference. I didn’t say I would be sober for the second episode now did I?

Hmm, gonna have to check this out. I remember catching a bit of the original a while back. (Man, the cast of Firefly don’t have any problems with finding work these days, do they?)

    Hmmm….from SciFiScoop:

Since ABC first announced they were rebooting the 1980’s sci-fi alien invasion series V it seems all we’ve heard about the production has been negative.

In the latest announcement, ABC have told EW that they are now only going to air the first four episodes before they’ll take it off their schedule, and that the final episodes of season one won’t return until after the Olympics in March.

Further, production was halted for two weeks due to issues we can only speculate about. An ABC spokesperson has now confirmed the halt will continue for at least another month.

Sadly, V is looking like a series with too many problems. If I had to wager, I’d put my money on the idea that season one will be the end of it.

V will premiere on Tuesday, November 3 at 8pm, but knowing you’ll only get four episodes and in light of ABC’s recent treatment of Defying Gravity, will you bother to invest your time?

Seems to me something strange is afoot at ABC….

I’ve read on the ‘tubes that they sacked the original development team because the first few episodes were hitting too close to home about First Precedent, Jugears Asshole Hussein and his Commie Posse…

Can’t stray from Teh Narrative, you know…

Yeah, the Grand Inquisitor is mickle pissed at ABC. The two Executive Producers and head writer are gone [names still on the credits, but gone] and the whole thing is in rewrite/reshoot. They are going to show a few episodes, and then the series disappears until MARCH 2010 when the new, improved, and politically correct version will be back. I taped the premiere, and will tape the original releases because who knows, they may become contraband. I suspect that from March on, the villains will be the Reactionary Resistance and you will see ‘Anna’ working with a devoted, tireless, dedicated historic first black American President to bring forth heaven on earth. “To Serve the American People” …… cookbook optional.

Can you imagine the First Wookie’s reaction when Buraq calls Morrena Baccarin in to coach her on the part?

(Man, the cast of Firefly don’t have any problems with finding work these days, do they?)

I don’t know if anyone watches Castle or not, but Mal made an appearance on the show. As a Halloween costume, but it was still Nathan Fillion dressed up as our favorite space cowboy.

In regards to LC Aggie Sith, a goddess, only different….’s comment @ 10: Is that not what I said was the problem? The episodes were in the can, the people wanted to see it, the propaganda ministry saw it, shit all over themselves, and crawled down ABCs ass. This will not be the same show next year. All because the government must not allow redress.

  16. 16

In regards to LC Subotai Bahadur’s comment @ 12: Exactly. Remember this next year, and pray we’re even allowed to vote in 2012. Would THAT be enough to start the fire?

So I went to Subotai’s link and posted.

I don’t get local channels though, so I have to watch on Hulu when it comes out. I am worried, I’m a purist and I LOVED the original V (yes I dressed up as Diana for halloween as a kid.. go figure eh?)

Blackfive commented (rightly so) though how long will it last before the script is ‘changed’ to not offend Obambi. Also, the show was in production back in 2007 so it’s not totally on purpose hitting the Obama administration, though it is nice to see.
