“Registration of Firearms is Just ‘Sensible’, You’re Paranoid if You Think that it Means We’ll Confiscate Your Guns”

Tell that to gun owners in Toronto and see how far it gets you:

Toronto police have seized almost 400 firearms with lapsed registrations in a six-month push aimed at reducing the number of guns on the city’s streets.

In March, officers began soliciting people who owned firearms once registered across the city as part of what they call the Safe City Project. Many of those who had to surrender their firearms had either let their registrations lapse, or had stashed their guns improperly under beds or in closets.

Most had simply inherited the firearms, police said.

The Firearms Act stipulates guns must be stored in a secure place or be locked so that they are inoperable.

“Of COURSE we’re not in any way suggesting that you can’t defend yourself against armed criminals, it’s just that we want to make sure that, should you need your firearms, they must be in a condition where they’re no use to you at all. The poor criminal might get hurt otherwise.”

Targeting people who had registered their guns is a preventative measure, said Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.

“Legal handgun owners are not dangerous individuals,” Blair told reporters at a Tuesday news conference.

“But their guns ARE! Who knows what those horrid, evil inert pieces of metal might get up to if they’re left to their own devices!”

“But we know from experience that their firearms can become extremely dangerous when they get into the hands of criminals.

You don’t SAY? Well then, here’s a novel idea: How about you focus your efforts on getting firearms out of the hands of CRIMINALS rather than kicking in the doors of law-abiding citizens in the middle of the night to steal their property? Yes, we know, it’s so much safer to deal with individuals who wouldn’t dream of breaking the law. We’re sorry that you’re lily-livered, gutless pussies, but tell us again why law-abiding citizens should pay the price for your lack of courage?

And so we have undertaken a number of initiatives to reduce the availability of those handguns.”

Why of course. In order to keep criminals from stealing your guns from you, the government will steal them FOR the criminals.

Meanwhile, the only individuals still armed will be criminals and the government, but we repeat ourself.

Bottom line: Keep this in mind the next time “sensible gun laws” proponents assure you that firearms registration is not, NOT, cross our hearts and hope to die, a way of collecting a nice list of people in need of a visit once the government decides that angry, armed citizens are a danger to the progressive agenda.

Also, should you find yourself in one of the states where fascism has reached the point where firearms registration is mandatory, buy yourself a throw-away gun and register it. That way, when the Obameinführer’s goons show up on your door step, you can hand over the piece of worthless crap as a “Good German” and then shoot the motherfuckers in the back of their heads with one of your unregistered guns as they turn around and leave.

Keep the country clean of fascists. It’s for The Children™.

There’s no way in hell they’re going to keep the guns away from the bad guys, that would mean doing their fucking JOBS! Another reason I’m glad to be in a state that makes concealed carry fairly easy, rapid, and unquestioned outside the limits of the “no guns for felons” arena…

Paranoia is an irrational fear,, complacency is not recognizing or fearing a real threat.

I would be complacent if I did not fear their paranoia of lawful firearm owners.

Sooo…the laws are rewritten to mandate state control by state possession of firearms through confiscation. Got it.

    Heads up all y’all
Spent a very productive and informative weekend here at Second Amendment Foundation/CCKBA gun rights policy conference, featuring Alan Gottlieb, Uncle Wayne and a host of favorites. There are audio transcriptions which will be available on CD.
What concerns me most is all the efforts to subjugate us being conducted outside our borders. The above notice should surprise noone in light of the fact that some Canadians are tired of being doormats and fighting for restoration of their rights in all aspects, not just firearms. And this act of despotism was local or the siezures would havce been made by the RCMP: that is, officially. Think of Bloomberg et.al. doing the same here. And not just NYC but every other C by their personal fiat.
The real American dream has always been to accumulate enough wealth and concentrate enough power to become a law unto oneself. And empire building at the personal level is of a type for us as well. But is there even one among our number who would grind our heels into our neigbors with or without portfolio, or just cause?
There is a natural inclination for those who seek or wield authority to posess it. Ask Nancy Pelosi. She’ll tell you. Sen. Feinstein has already told us. And let them go on. They instill fear and hatred of Their authority: respect? Never!! Look to history and review the ends of all absolute monarchs who never learned on ascent to their thrones that the crowns would wear them; not the other way around.

A friend of mine inherited a gun from her grandmother (it’s an antique but workable). She, alas, lives in fucking Red* bastion, and can’t own one there without submitting to insane and blatantly unconstitutional restrictions/licensing/prohibition/high fees/only the rich and famous need apply LAWS. Which means she can’t have her own property or her legal rights, because she lives in an authoritarian hellhole.

I think she should smuggle it in. Fuck the registration farce. It’s just a hit list for later.

*And can we PLEASE stop calling the Red motherfuckers “blue”???? WE’RE true BLUE; WE’RE the good guys, the faithful Americans. THEY’RE the farging MARXISTS, okay?

Anyone remember that Warren Beatty movie, BLUES REDS? Yah, I thought so. You know, the current generation of kids are going to be so fucking confused when they read about the days when the Reds called themselves REDs. Such as:

    Red-diaper baby
“The lady is as pink as her underwear.” (Nixon, re Helen Gahagan Thomas)
    “Red Channels”
Red on Blue war exercises (yup, WE are always the Blues, and the stinking Commies were the Reds.)
“Better dead than Red,” and for the quislings, vice versa.

Actually, we can resurrect “better Red than DEAD,” and use it against them.

But, seriously. This business of supinely letting the Reds dictate all the terms of the arguments and the labels used therein is KILLING us.

    In regards to Tallulah’s comment @ 10:

Oh thank you. That has been a pet peeve of mine for several years. About a year ago I sent the following response to one of those wear red on Friday groups:

    Rejecting Red

I am sick unto very death with this “wear red shirts on Fridays” foolishness which keeps circulating across the net, in emails and on web sites. It has been circulating for several years now like an STD in a hippie commune, and it is an embarrassment. I know you people doing this mean well, but you really need to think before you act. Thinking is a traditional conservative behavior.

Wearing red on Fridays will not help build Republicanism, or Americanism, or anything else good.

I have spent most of my life struggling against the Reds. Red has always been the traditional symbolic color of communism. Remember Stalin’s Red Army? Red China? Mao’s “Little Red Book”. Take a look at the flags of communist countries – and tell me what color they are (were). That’s right – red. Google up a few photos of Hugo Chavez, and tell me the color of the shirt he is usually wearing. – Yep, red. In fact, even before the communists, red was the traditional color of left-wing radicals as far back as the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. King Louis’ flag was (please don’t laugh) white – with golden fleur-de-lis upon it.
Red has never been the color of conservatism – at least not until the 2000 election, when Tom Brokaw realized that on his election night maps, it would be just too awkward to use red as the color for the left-wing Democrats. Just too fitting. “True Blue” should have been the color of loyal conservatism.
By the way, if you are religiously inclined…. what is the traditional color of the red Devil?

Red is the color of danger and warnings. As in stop signs.

Even the one seeming exception is awkward. During the seventeenth century, when armies began to dress in brightly colored uniforms (so commanders could better see their troops’ positions on the battlefield amidst the smoke), the British chose to distinguish themselves with red, which is why the British used red to mark the British imperial possessions on their maps. Later, Washington’s army adopted dark blue. Our first national foes were known as the redcoats. And now it gags me to be told I live in a red state.

Do you really want to let Tom Brokaw jerk you around and redirect your thoughts for you? I didn’t think so. So share this rant with people who are eager for you to wear red. And maybe send a nasty note to your local media outlets, letting them know that you have caught onto their game, and demand that their color codes be readjusted.

Perhaps we can restore our identity as the anti-Reds. Your grandpa would be proud.

    Sentry says:

I wonder how many soldering guns whose registration had lapsed were confiscated as well. Still yeah, it’s easy for the cops to scoot around kicking in doors to harass law-abiding citizens. It beats bothering criminals and they can tell hoplophobes that they’re actually doing something proactive about crime for a change. Of course, the fact that the guns were still at the homes speaks volumes about their availability to traditional criminals.

I wonder how long it will be before they start hauling off vehicles with expired registration as well.

Turns out, there’s a little common sense to be found up here as well these days.

In regards to LC TerribleTroy, Imperial Centurion’s comment @ 12:

Oh of course. Yes I’d register my guns, if only I had any. But I don’t have any guns, and that is quite clear, because there aren’t any guns registered to me. Since no guns are registered to me, I don’t have any, and have no need to register what is clearly and obviously non-existent. :em99:

  27. 27
    Sentry says:

There was something about this that story seemed odd to me, and I finally figured it out while talking with my brother after work today. Essentially, the way these gun owners got stung is that their PALs (Possession/acquisition License) had expired. Once a gun is registered up here, it stays registered….or should, anyway. The mess that we call the Firearms Registry has been known to lose thousands of registrations at a time from time to time.

So anyway, the way this must have worked is that the Metro cops took a list of expired PALs and decided that the guns had to go in order to make a big show of FIGHTING CRIME. I suppose they’re preventing the terrible crime of people being ready to shoot back at criminals. Oddly enough, they estimate that thousands more guns are kept in ready/scary places. I don;t suppose anyone will have to hold their breath too long before the next round of door kickings is cheered in Tranta.
