I’m Tired

I bet you are too.

You know, throughout our history, it’s always been “just one more pull and it’ll all be over.” For my grandparents, it was World War II. Then it was the Korean War. Then it was Viet Nam. Then it was the Cold War. They were all going to be the last one. I signed up, young and dumb, for the Cold War and I survived it. Not surprisingly, because it was one of the most bloodless ones we’ve ever known, thanks to the Gipper.

But I didn’t know that when I signed up. Not that it matters. I survived. Who gives a fuck? Better men than I didn’t in wars to come, so I’m not wearing my shoulder out patting myself on the back.

That’s not my point. My point is: when’s it ever going to end?

I was still in uniform when the wall fell, and I remember very well how a humongous weight was lifted off of my shoulders. Here, at long last, was the peace we’d all been longing for. But it didn’t last all that long, did it? A few years later, pisslamic fundamentalists murdered 3,000 of my countrymen.

And it was all back on again. I was all prepared to start banging my guns into plows, and here I am, digging them back out again. Not just because of the threat of foreign fundamentalists, but even more so because of the liberal fundamentalists here at home.

In the past, I served to fight foreigners. Now, I’m called upon to fight my own countrymen if they push it too far.

I just want to be left alone. All I want is for me and my family to be left alone, for us to be allowed to make our life choices ourselves. I don’t want to hurt anybody, I just want to be left the fuck alone. Yet here I am now, loading up for bear, because I have learned that there are people who won’t even let me have that.

I thought I’d left all of that behind. I thought that never again would anybody force me to sharpen my bayonet, count my rounds and oil my weapon. Thankfully, I never stopped doing that. But why is it that way?

All I ever wanted was to be left alone.

Death and destruction follows us. We’ll face this challenge too and, G-d willing, we’ll win, but what will it take for the forces of evil to finally realize that they’re beat? I don’t know. I just know that we’re in for another round and hey, here I am.

But I hate it.

I am of the mind, Sire, that their lust for control is the issue.

They’re so close to the Brass Ring, they can smell it. Now, with the prize in sight, they’re abandoning the lies that have always been the philosophical underpinnings of their entire belief-system, in a mad dash for the finish line.

Now they’re not even bothering to conceal their scorn for those pf us who aren’t complete pizdu parashniks, as they insist that they’re here to save us from ourselves since we just don’t know what they know. Either that, or we’re evil dupes of Big Tonsil™.

They’ll have their just desserts soon enough- at the ballot box, or on the scaffold. Their choice.

Time to quote Gandalf once more: Always, after a defeat and a respite, the Shadow takes another shape and grows again. This seems to be the way of the world. The times are interesting. We may eventually find that we have become the next “Greatest Generation”–not that we set out to, but that we (I hope) rose to the occasion.

They won’t. Because they can’t. When the first primitive organisms grew in primal ooze, half of them promptly wiped out the other half. When the first animals crawled out of the sea onto the land, there were microscopic predators waiting for them. And throughout our long, long history there have been, always and invariably, those willing to use cruelty and violence to get what they want.

I’d strongly recommend you read Lee Harris’s excellent works Civilization and its Enemies and The Suicide of Reason. Wonderful philosopher; one of the very few living who deserves that title.

Heraclitus understood this. Hobbes understood it. Machiavelli understood it. Churchill understood it. There is no end; we carve pockets of civilization out of the howling swamp of darkness around us. It needs to be defended, always. And, bitter irony, it is precisely to the extent we succeed that we become vulnerable. For it is when civilization seems to have triumphed, and the dark ways of the past relegated to history, that is the exact moment when it is easiest for the forces of darkness to succeed. For it is exactly then that many living in the light have forgotten what the dark is like.

Though, we should not despair. We can fight wars less, and more decently. More people live in freedom now than in any other time in human history. We have a fight on our hands, and it’s hard and wearying, but our ancestors-in-spirit, back to Hammurabi, look to us to make sure that civilization continues on in our generation.

Evil is sustained in it’s quest by a different power, a darker power than sustains us.

Be of good cheer. Remember always, You Are Not On The Ramparts Alone! We are with you, and The Lord is with us all.

Our side wins in the end. I skipped ahead and watched the end of this movie, years ago. The special effects are pretty expensive, but the story is a good one.

The answer to your question, My Liege, is that it will never end. As long as there’s one person out there who thinks he has a better idea of how we should all live and seeks to impose that on the rest of us, whether by main force or subtle cajoling, then the struggle will continue. It’s part of human nature, I’m convinced of that. Most of us here on the Right just want these busybodies to go away so we can live our lives without interference. But no, the various collectivists–from out-and-out Marxists, to fascists, to garden-variety liberals, to Islamic extremists, who are also very “communal” in what passes for thought in their perverted ideology–can’t resist the urge to say, “wait, wait, I can do it better”. And the weak-minded, the incompetent, and the lazy fall in behind them to get their free lunch. As do the truly malevolent, who enjoy power for its own ends, for the rush they get from making people do things against their will, from imposing punishments on them, and from being one of the “elect”. So, yeah, we all get tired after putting up with the never-ending bullshit from this crowd. But the alternative is to cave in, and suffer the consequences. I’m not ready to do that yet. I hope I never will.

    LuckyLeo says:

But why is it that way?

Because it is the price we pay for freedom: Constant alertness; Constant willingness to fight back.

    There is no other price.

You know, some say that the defender is the one who always starts the war because he resists. If he just roll over and let himself be conquered, subjugated, et al., there would be no war.

Ask the Nu-conservatives; they know all about this.

The “countrymen” some of us lament about fighting against are NOT our countrymen — not in spirit. They have betrayed the ideals of our great nation. They are selling out — exchanging their freedom for some false sense of security. Some of them do it because they are misguided and stupid; but others, mostly their leaders, are doing it for a lust of power and control over ALL men, to bring about (they hope) some utopia that only promises to be the darkest dystopia — darker than anything Orwell or Huxley could have ever dreamed of.

And the saddest thing is some of them have so lied to themselves. They tell themselves that they are doing this for humanity; that they are doing this for the greater good. In truth, they are small little men and women who are terrified of their fellow man. Their faith in the goodness in their fellow man is ZERO. They know, as sure as night follows day, that their neighbors are hateful beasts who would like nothing more to rape, maim and kill . These people know that they must take firm control of everyone elses lives to protect themselves from other peoples’ “evil” actions.

I mean, it is so obvious to this type of person, because that what is in the news media everyday: raping, maiming and killing. See it is right there, he knows that is what the world is like. He knows it better than any other person, because that is what he would do! (Exhibit A: see the late, unlamented Ted Kennedy’s life. But we can always fall on the same tried and true examples of Hitler, Stalin, The Mad Mullahs of Iran, Saddam Hussein, Robespierre — the list is endless)

So we must fight — until a day comes where we can make these sorry, scared, little people see reason. We must fight because truly the only real security will come for these people is when everyone else is dead! Then this type of asshole will truly feel safe. But as Dennis Miller aptly pointed out in one of his rants: if that should happen, “that crazy motherfucker will probably next attack his reflection in the mirror.”

So we must fight. For our freedom.

Evil is like dust. You can clean all you want and even in a sterile room, in some dark corner it is there. Just waiting. Regaining strength from the last defeat. Changing stripes and names to claim it’s not the same and better than what you now have. Just try it, you’ll like it and some fool will and claim it’s the greatest thing ever.

In short…… there is no end.

    Sinon says:

This is why we are supposed to have traditions, morals (or call them ethics if you like) in a society. To prepare the next generation for their part in this never ending war. We have a huge problem in this country and have for a long time. Enemies of society have worked hard to erase the apparent need to do these things. Our history books in school always claim things are moving onward and upward, although the facts are at serious odds with this. The past few generations have been raised that traditions are silly and meaningless, that the end of all suffering will soon be upon us. So they never learned to even the need to stand up and fight to keep the world civil.

The only light shining at the tunnel is those who grew up post 9/11. They saw how things really were, that evil is out there. At any given moment it can destroy everything you hold dear, and that vigilance is the price for security. Not electing snake oil salesmen who claim they will protect you. Perhaps the people who learned the lesson will pass it on to their kids, and our generational responsibility gap will close.

Because, Your Highness, it’s for your own good, doncha know? After all, collectivists of all stripes have this vision of what a “perfect” society should be. It’s written in their scriptures (Mein Kampf, Das Kapital, Al-Adala al-Ijtimaiyya fil-Islam, etc.), so it can’t be wrong. I mean, these brilliant people like Hitler, Marx, or Qutb couldn’t, y’know, lie or write something self-serving. Perish the thought. What their “perfect societies” always consist of is the extortion of goods and services from the productive in society, the redistribution of same to the non-productive, and the strict obedience to orders. Theirs.

On a more serious note, my niece, who’s a good kid, sent me this from Nashville:

The scariest thing I’ve seen is that some people want to start civil war…the amount of sheer hatred I have witnessed since the election has been staggering, astounding, discouraging…the hatred is what makes me fear for our nation’s future.

Just 21, and not real aware of What’s At Stake, and WHY people are so angry. I replied that what she was seeing as “hate” is intense anger, anger at the prospect that our American principles of living are under threat by those who would give overwhelming power to the State. And I left it at that.

She’s voted mostly Democrat, but occasionally Republican; her mother (my sister) was a good person but timid in the world and longed for a security blanket. She also, due to her terminal illness, had good reason to be afraid, so my brother and I didn’t bug her about voting for OVomit. (Much). My niece has been very much influenced by my sister, and my brother in law, a staunch Dem. But she did ask me why I’d veered sharply right, which I appreciated, and we had a solid, serious conversation about it. I think she’s reachable, in other words, by sober, reasoned argument.

The trouble with the Young Ones is that they’ve NEVER had the patriotic case put to them. Always hearing from the America-haters and Caucasoid-haters and self-loathing libs. So it’s no WONDER the kid is confused and alarmed that people are so MAD. Her grandfather (our dad) said bewilderedly, when OVomit was elected, “I feel like I’ve lost my country.”

He’s 81 years old. Member of the WW II generation. “I feel like I’ve lost my country.”

    That just breaks my heart.

As for the neverending story, we were always told that this vale of tears will be just that. That the battle between good and evil (and this stuff is only one dimension of that, remember) will rage on until Judgement Day.

So take a break when you can; get out and go for a run with your dog, play with your kids. Have a wall-to-wall football weekend. And regenerate!

I’m reminded of when Sam and Frodo were in Mordor and terribly hungry and thirsty. Sam looked up and saw a single star in the rent between the lowering clouds. And he was reminded that there is light and beauty forever beyond evil’s reach.

We have to do three simple things – maintain our arsenal and move the technology forward as fast as possible – learn how to stamp out brush wars fast, brutally and with no quarter and finally, defeat the insidious cancer that is the left wing lunacy in America, for surely it is the acid that corrodes our ability to do handle the other two. Only then will we have some measure of peace, at least in our homeland.
