This time, the one about the poor woman who died of cancer “because of lack of insurance” who wanted to be buried in her Ogabe T-Shirt. The woman that he couldn’t remember the name of as he pulled her out of her grave to use her as a prop in his own personal “Look How Awesome I Am” show.
Yep, that one was a lie too. (h/t DPUD).
Turns out she was insured. She just made the bad decision to use the money she would need to cover the deductible for investing in her own business instead. By the time she realized she was sick, the money was gone.
No, we are not going to dance upon this poor unfortunate woman’s grave because, as they say: There but for the Grace of G-d… Sure, with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight it’s all too easy to say “why didn’t you go to the doctor sooner?”, “why didn’t you keep enough money in savings to cover your deductible, just in case?” and yada yada yada. What if she wasn’t sick then? What if there was no lump back then? She was in her mid-thirties when that vile and yes, evil disease started growing in her. How many of us can state, truthfully, that we didn’t feel, at that age, that there was no need for us to worry about things such as cancer?
Truthfully, now.
His Imperial Majesty feels for this woman and her loved ones, and her untimely death adds to the list of reasons why we hate cancer more than any other disease known to mankind. It strikes randomly, and it strikes cowardly, many times without announcing its presence until it is too late. Too many good people have died way ahead of their time because of it.
But her death wasn’t the fault of “Big Evil Insurance”, it wasn’t the fault of “people being unable to get coverage” because she was insured.
And her death certainly wasn’t deserving of being used as a stage prop in King Narcissus’ “Love Me” Show.
He’s a disgusting liar, sociopath and malignant narcissist, and the sooner he is shuffled out of office the better.
Not only is he dangerous to our nation, he’s a bloody disgrace to our nation.

Shit, this administration and that hag from Connecticut needed this woman to die. My sympathies to this woman’s family and friends, she and they don’t deserve to be used as cheap political props.
As for cancer, I guess this thread is as good a place as any to ask for the LC’s to roll the prayer wheel. I go in for a biopsy on Wednesday to check for prostate cancer. My psa number sat at about 6 (should be around the 2.5 range), I’m prone to prostate infections but the high psa number warranted getting checked by a specialist. The doctor did the full exam and felt nothing on my prostate and all other tests came back OK. He said that there was about an 80% chance that I don’t have cancer but that we should schedule the biopsy and ultrasound to see what is going on.
If I do have it, it is in the early stages…..and yes, I have medical insurance to cover everything…..if a poor high school/college teacher like me can maintain coverage then……well, I won’t foul this poor woman’s memory like that bastard obama and that hag de lauro.

PSA testing has a loy of controversy attached to it mainly because there is such a wide range that the PSA numbers fall into. One elevated PSA test really means nothing. You have to have serial tests that show a rise in the PSA number before further testing (And Worry) is warranted. That being said I will gladly spin the prayer wheel for you.

It is a tough cob, Dick, to be sure. One should never choose a deductible higher than the amount of scratch they can come up with at a moments notice. Oh, they see monthly savings, but when it hits the fan…oh brother! Or credit for that matter. My wife and I have a five grand deductible…but we also had the resources to cover it. This woman evidently did not.
I’ll be sure to add an extra spin of that prayer wheel for you JAYBEAR. As for the poor “martyr” in question; she made a bad decision and she paid for it with her life. I can sympathize with her family for her loss, but that’s just the way life is. “As you sow, so shall ye reap”.

And apparently had been fighting cancer for over 4 years. That means that she was about 37-ish when she was diagnosed. Wasn’t it Ogabe’s own committee that said that women don’t need mammograms until age 50, or so?

Don’t know about anybodyelse, but i’ve used health insurance more than a couple of times. it works like this:
1 go to hospital / doctor
2 present insurance card
3 get treatment
4 go home
5 receive bill for deductable at some future date
maybe 2a pay co-payment
I happen to have a very large deductable on my policy also (not that large), and i have never had to pay that up-front.
She could have gotten all the treatment she wanted, and made arrangements to pay the hospital, doctors the balance over time as needed.
there is something else going on here.

What I do with an elevated (between 4.0 and 10.0) PSA in an asymptomatic patient is this:
1) Repeat the PSA and add a % free PSA,
2) Perform a digital rectal exam (DRE).
If the PSA remains elevated but the % free is high (>15%) and DRE is nonsuspicious, I’ll repeat the PSA in a few months. Otherwise, it’s off to the urologist.
If the patient complains of new onset symptoms (urinary hesitancy, dribbing, etc.), or if the PSA is rising, or if they have a concerning family history, they’re also off to see the wizard.
Fact is, even screening for prostate cancer remains controversial, since in many cases when cancer is found, it’s low grade and doesn’t significantly impact the patient’s life expectancy.

My aunt has a policy with a $3K deductible, and then she puts that $3K in an HSA. So if she doesn’t use $3K that year, she has it toward’s the next year’s deductible. Problem solved!
