…like an early Christmas present from a brother to bring you back to what’s really important in this life. Y’all may have noticed my absence lately. In between the celebratory cheering some of you may have wondered why. More likely not, but just in case, it’s been pretty busy here in the southern realm, to the point where I haven’t even had time to check my email, let alone read the Rott (forget about posting) for the past few weeks. A real rut that only serves to beat ya down deeper and dwell on problems, rather than on your blessings.
Today I had my “It’s a Wonderful Life Moment” when I came home and saw a package on my desk. Bangie Thing and the Princesses quickly chimed in that it was from LC Rurik (Yes they know him by his real name, but Thing 1 and Thing 2 still call him Rurik after meeting him at a Texasfest). In it was a heartfelt Christmas card and a book on Soviet naval commandos of WWII written by a Twice Hero of the Soviet Union. More than just a Christmas present, that package was a reminder of the truly greatest treasure a man can have, the love of friends and family, even those separated from you by a couple thousand miles. I still have a hard time believing that I have been honored to meet people like all of you here on the Rott, and to be able to call you my friends, my brothers, my sisters.
So Rurik, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the thoughtful gift (You really know what reading material will spark my interest), for being my friend, and for reminding me of my blessings.
