Oh, and On a General Note:

Could somebody, somewhere, somebody who can, in fact, do so, please utterly devastate, destroy and lay in ruins whatever cabal of illiterate fuckwads came up with the commenting system called “Disqus” that is currently spreading like the Black Fucking Plague across the Internets, causing browsers to lock up for minutes on end while trying to figure out how to process the inept code made by those sloped forehead monkeys or, likelier still, trying to find a slot in line for whatever 15th century servers are supposed to handle the load.

Or at least point us in the direction of a plugin that will forever banish to the darkest corners of the bin bucket website with a sign that the fuckheads running it have made a deal with Satan and let that crap in the door.

They should be required to post a warning before you even get to their page saying:

“Close this tab right NOW, for we are a bunch of fuckheads who should have been aborted PRIOR to conception by chopping off our fathers’ John Thomases. With rusty knife.”

Thatisall.

Disqusting also doesn’t like poo poo talk. You get “awaiting moderation” for daring to include words like boob, dingle or phrases like “cock faced cunt muncher”.

    I just don’t get it.

I actually like Disqus. It makes commenting across the dozens of places (hundreds when you count in Lucianne links) I read news and opinion much easier with a unified profile, and I’ve never had issues with it slowing down or locking up my browser.

I can, however, offer some help for those who don’t like it: Avast Antivirus now comes with a plugin for most browsers that is set by default to block most social media and browsing trackers, including Disqus. It took me a couple days after the plugin came out to realize why I couldn’t access comments on a lot of sites anymore. Other options include most addons (whichever browser you use) that inhibit scripting and data-tracking. Firefox has No-Script and Ghostery, among others.

Firefox, Ghostery will block Disqus, as will NoScript.

I also run WoT, FlashBlock, and AdBlock just to be sure…

I confess. I use Disqus on my site. I’ve had some problems in the past, usually after a wordpuss update, and then I go back to the old system.
Other then that, I rarely have a problem.

And I do use noscript in firefox.

Don’t get me wrong: I don’t have a problem with the idea of services such as Disqus. What I DO have a problem with is the tendency for providers of such to not establish the framework necessary to support it, leading to endless wait times while sites load.

It would also be nice with a “Does this service annoy the shit out of you? We’re sorry. Press this button and we’ll never annoy you ever again” option.

I’ve never had any sort of slowdown from Disqus, so I can’t really comment on it’s functionality beyond “seems fine to me”. The little swirly icon goes for a few seconds (never seen more than 5sec), then the comment interface appears. Flash causes all kinds of problems for me, but not Disqus. What browser are you using? I’m running FireFox 27.0.1 with WoT, AdBlock Plus, NoScript, and the Avast plugin.

Well, you might consider upgrading IE beyond version 4. :em07:

Also XP will be taken out of maintenance in a couple of months. After that, you become a hacked, virus ridden threat to the internet.
    :em06:
I just upgraded my last system to 7 Pro a few weeks ago. But then I am a Systems Admin.

If you’re to cheap to get an OEM version, pick a Linux flavor and use that. :em01:

Um, he’s using a Windows OS – so he’s ALREADY a hacked, virus ridden threat to the Internet…

That being said, I use Windows 7 as my host system and do almost all my work in a Linux Virtual Machine (and Windows coding in either XP or 7 Virtual Machines as needed…:P )

Pretty much same setup as you have here, except I don’t have WoT and NoScript.

Maybe Disqus has just had bad days when I’ve been browsing. It’s not happening all the time, mostly it doesn’t bother me. And now that I installed Ghostery (THANKS ORION!), I can at least block the damn thing when it’s having a bad hair day.

I guess it’s just the logical next step in websites becoming ever more intrusive and bloody annoying in their efforts to be more “functional” and “user-friendly.” Now every site out there forces you to load 9,000 pages of script as opposed to just showing you the information that you got there to look at in the first place.

And now for an open statement to admins out there:

No, random web admin out there, I do NOT want to “Like” you on FaceBook, “+” you on Google+, “tweet” about you on Twitter or whatever the fuck it is your retarded widgets are trying to make me do. As a matter of fact, you shoving all of that crap in my face pretty much guarantees that I’ll never do any of those things, even if I absolutely fell in love with your site and wanted to tell all the world about it.

Oh, and your flat banner ads that you used to have, Mr. Random Web Admin? I have those too and I understand the desire to offset hosting costs or even make a few bucks, sites don’t write themselves after all. Bring those back. Because the pop up, slide over, cascade down, rotate in, bounce across the screen, fade on top and whatever the fuck ELSE the Flavor of the Month is what forced me to install AdBlock years ago.

    You’re welcome.

And now, for some topic hijacking. :em01:
I went shopping today. I received my bonus check and decided to spend a little.

I purchased a brand spanking new Ruger SR45. I intend to try it our tomorrow.
While waiting for the never to be damned government to give me the OK to exercise my constitutional rights, I wandered about the fine establishment where I made my purchase. I picked up some ammunition to feed my new family member as well as some for other family members.
    :em01:
I also had the chance to handle an IMI Tavor. :em03:
Damn I wish I had an extra $2K to spend!
    :em08:
The only time I’ve seen one is on YouTube. It’s a bullpup design, and I’ve never handled one of those before. It was shorter then I thought it was. I put it to my shoulder, placed my forearm against the trigger guard as I had seen on YouTube and it just locked in nicely and felt so comfortable. It feels better then my AR15.

Guess I have to start saving up for a nice kosher rifle even if I’m not Jewish.

I just got a new recoil spring for my Kimber ProCarry – the old one had worn out after 20 years and 50K or so rounds…Looking forward to a range trip to test it out.

I also just purchased a Bravo Company Mfg AR15 M4 Mod 2 and an Aimpoint PRO with 6 Magpul magazines…Cannot WAIT for them to arrive! I will provide a range report, if requested…

Still gotta get my Hollywood handle and the Vickers CAS, but that’ll wait a month…

I’ve never been a fan of Disqus, but I do understand the motivation behind it.

Unlike the closed commenting system (used here), Disqus is meant to be “portable”, across many different sites. Most of the time it fails miserably, considering there are some sites that you really do not want connected.

I use the FaceCrack Social Plugin on my site only because I am sharing my music posts on my FaceCrack page. People share the music and I reach more people with it. If I wasn’t using my site as an Amazon reseller, I would stick with the stock WP comment system.

But I can see where that can be a serious setback for this site. You’d lose some control, and open yourself up to a shit storm that far exceeds any that I could have ever stirred up here.

The plus side — and this is why the major publication sites are all moving to Disqus — the server resources are much lower because Disqus handles all of the comment storage. The bottom line IS the bottom line in this case. Disqus handles the spam issues, the registration issues, and a moderator associated with the site’s account can moderate.

Hate to diappoint y’all, but in the 13 years I’ve been using XP(and currently IE-8) I’ve actually had two – maybe three – hits that required paying my computer geek to fix. OTOH I am running a commercial version of symantec that is currently used by my former employer on about 15K desk/lap tops…

I’m figuring to go to 7 when I have to; not a snowball’s chance in hell I’ll live long enough to consider 8.

So can somebody tell me what I have to do to be able to read and comment on sites using discrap?

0007 – I’m in IT. Been programming since before there WAS a Microsoft. I do NOT use it for anything that requires secure data unless required to by my employer.

But much as I loathe Microsoft, Windows 7 is actually pretty good for usability and stability – light years ahead of XP. As far as Microsoft OS’s go, I really liked XP, in general – it was their best. Windows 7 is light-years ahead of it. I’d recommend upgrading from XP to Windows 7 at your earliest convenience. It’s definitely worth it.

8 is suitable punishment for most elected officials to be sentenced to use it.

I’d get off IE though if I were you. Pretty much anything out there is better. I like Firefox. A lot of my friends in the department use Chrome, a few use Safari. None use IE.

Yeah, I do nothing on line except surf the web and email and when I’m done the ‘puter is turned off and so is the modem.
When I was working at State I had too many chances to see that IF somebody wanted your data badly enough they would get it. That said the commercial symantec is way better then any other anti-virus I have ever seen/ used( at around $5K per it damn well better be, heh.). Micro-Essen has failed me regularly.
I figure on moving to 7 when XP time is up. And I do have Safari and Mozzella(?) loaded, I just haven’t bothered opening it up to use. SIL is a major player on MAc systems and he uses Safari so Iam a little familiar with it.
I do have to laugh at microcrap executives figuring they could jam 8 down on all the businesses using XP or 7 – and by the way y’all will have to buy all new systems because of “TOUCH SCREEN NEAT STUFF FOR YOUR PHONE!!!!!” Ooops, their bad HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
