Let Us Give Thanks…

On this Thanksgiving Day of 2013, it is important that we gather our families around us and give thanks for the simple things that motivate our lives: our families and friends; our faith and the daily rewards of our own hard work.  We celebrate life on this day with great food and drink, and the occasional football game in the yard or on the television.  Many of us also stop at some point during the day to remember those who have gone before us and those we have lost.

It is increasingly common these days to approach a holiday like this one with trepidation.  A number of those among us struggle with the consequences of the foolish and harmful policies that emanate from D.C. on an almost daily basis.  Good jobs are increasingly hard to find, while the prices of essential items continue to climb.  The threats to our freedoms posed by our own government hang like a dark cloud over our heads.

If you are like me, you are angry at the harm done to America and Americans by a government that no longer serves its country’s interests.  But you are angrier yet at a population of voting adults who have aided, and in many cases cheered this process, seemingly happy to trade their liberty for the illusion of security, and unaware of the consequences.

So on this day, I would like to stop and remind those Americans who, like me, keep faith with and give thanks for the roots from which rose our exceptional America, of the reasons why we should continue to work to one day see the restoration of all that was once so great about our nation:

  • Americans who believe in their rights to liberty and private property still outnumber the statists who are working to take them from us
  • The Second Amendment continues to this day, and remains, as George Washington once said, “…the people’s liberty teeth”
  • Americans use this divine right – the licensed hunters of just three states would together comprise the largest standing army in the world
  • Statism of every stripe across all of history has always met with failure
  • Examples of the impending failure of statism are all around us (Solyndra, Detroit, Obamacare, etc), and all we need do is point them out
  • The cult of personality built around our illegitimate President is disintegrating under the weight of ideological overreach
  • The time for real Americans to step forward grows nearer with each new statist failure and national crisis

This is my short list.  You are welcome to make your own additions in the comments. For my part, I am thankful for this community of like-minded patriots who together keep the constitutional flame of liberty lit, for the day when our flame can be returned to light the torch of national pride in our exceptional nation.

You are correct. At this moment in time we have the opportunity to influence the LIVs within our personal spheres. The administration has literally published talking points meme’s to support a campaign that wants socialists to “start a conversation” at the dinner table. Luckily for me, I only have two socialists in my family and they are “sick” this year (hope their insurance hasnt been cancelled) so my chance to ridicule any “supporter” of this admin has been reduced.

    The Emperor has no clothes.

This was a bill passed in the middle of the night

On a purely partisan basis by people that hadn’t even read it

Who (even after reading it) lied straight to our face, on every level about its benefits

Who even with 3 1/2 years of lead time couldn’t put a website together to support the “most important legislation evah!”

Who has conducted a campaign to demonize and vilify any critics by calling the critics terrorists, radicals, racists, crazies, etc. etc. (Whats wrong with small govt and less taxes?)

And what has all this accomplished? Nothing but the biggest self inflicted political clusterfuck in the fucking history of man.

And Im supposed to “trust” them to administer this program efficiently?

Yeah that’s going to happen. But I am still thankful, Im thankful everyday that I was lucky enough to be born AMERICAN

In addition to your most excellent points, I would like to give thanks for somebody who has not yet appeared, something which has not yet happened, yet something which nature’s laws compel to happen at some point. Also because I don’t want to be the umpteenth guy to say thank you:

I would like to say thank you, to be thankful for, the person or persons (I don’t know who, might be myself or myself and people I know, people I don’t know, doesn’t matter) who finally decide that enough is enough and take the motherfuckers out who are busy destroying our nation. I am thankful for them finally lighting the fire that will set our nation free, the ones who will fire the shot heard around the world who will set us on a path to freedom again, no matter how painful, the ones who throw that lit match into the tinder box. I want to thank them and be thankful for their service to freedom, for their selfless act of sacrifice to get the inevitable started, because inevitable it is, man will not indefinitely suffer the indignities of tyranny, and the sooner it gets started, the sooner the disease will be cured and the tyrants will be dead.

I want to thank them ahead of time for the lovely smell of socialist corpses rotting in the streets, I want to thank them for jump starting the resurrection of a society in which men can be free and my children can experience what I myself was blessed enough to experience, and I pray that we will learn from this and proceed to execute every single damn socialist motherfucker who ever utters a single socialist thought without hesitation.

I pray that this will happen soon, and I thank almighty G-d for every socialist dead, and I dedicate every rotting socialist corpse to His Glory.

2 years ago was the first thanksgiving without my father. This was the first thanksgiving without my mother. Both had very long and fulfilling lives, but we all miss them.

I just returned from my cousin’s apartment on Beacon Hill, (Snooty end of Boston), where we had thanksgiving dinner with his son, wife, my sister and brother inlaw. My cousin’s son brought two friends from school. (MBA program at Babson), One was from India, the other was from Ghana. The latter has become a US citizen. YAY!
A good time was had by all and my cousin is now short one case of beer.
    :em01: :em05:
And now to go sleep off the Tryptophan.

We dont have Thanksgiving here, but after the news I received, I give thanks for all of you.

GM Roper, a conservative blogger, a good and kind man, loved by many , left us two days ago. I remain thankful for the family that will care for his widow, I give thanks for the many hours he spent trying to help me and others, and I give thanks for his life and legacy.

I give thanks for all of you and your friendship

I give thanks to the US who has been and always will be our staunch ally and friend – and folks, sleep well tonight after dinner, we’ve got your back.

I give thanks for my wonderful, wise and gentle wife, who has put up with me all these years, and even in the face of this bloody illness, refuses to give an inch. Courage needs witnesses.

Here in the beautiful Hill Country of the land that the Good L-rd in his wisdom gave to a special breed, TEXAS, it’s easy to give thanks. For myself finally escaping the state’s chancre of a city called Austin, I am truly blessed. Yes, we don’t know who, when or where that Tree of Liberty will start being refreshed in the only way it can, but it will. May G-d in His wisdom give us the strength, resolve and passion to return to our progeny what those that have gone before us paid for so dearly.

Ronald Reagan once said that the loss of true freedom is only a generation away. It’s already been given a name……Generation X. In spite of the abject failure of the evils of communism and socialism the left has rewritten the history now thought to be the truth of this generation.

It is our task to rectify this situation amongst our families, friends, neighbors and communities. We must first take the role of teachers of the truth before we assume that final, terrible role in defense of our precious liberty.

I am incredibly grateful for this place. The knowledge that there are patriots out there who will see this nation through the coming dark times is a comfort. Thank you all, and remember: if we don’t abandon Him, He won’t abandon us.
