Sad Updates

And long overdue too, for which we apologize. We are amiss in keeping up with our email at times. We try, though.

First, it is our sad duty to inform that our long term loyal Rottie friend’s father-in-law Syd passed a week before last. On our own behalf as well as on the behalf of the family, we would like to thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts. He passed peacefully surrounded by his daughter and other members of family as well as close friends. Our prayers go out to all touched by his journey home.

Second, our long time friend and LC, Draco, is not getting better. Of this you may already be aware from updates at Hookers and Booze (and if you’re not reading that site daily, why not?), but if you aren’t, I leave the word to our good friend of many years, LC Aggie Sith:

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Draco is not getting better, and can no longer breathe on his own. His wife has decided to extend his life until all of his unit friends can say their goodbyes, and then she may terminate. She has decided that he will not be an organ donor (even though it is in his medical records that he signed for everything to be donated). She will not have a military funeral. Also, all who show up in military uniform will be barred from the service. At least she is having him cremated per his request. It has been difficult to lose a man who was not only a warrior and friend, but also my brother. To have his wife deny him in death what was in effect his purpose in this life is akin to having a knife thrust in our hearts. I am not updating anything on FB for fear she might see it and decide to bar me from attending, as well. As a last bit of caution, be advised that her updates are not very realistic. They may be hopeful, but she is not considering the doc’s opinions, much less Hubby’s.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. They have meant the world to Hubby and me.

May G-d welcome our friend and brother into His Kingdom.

Sending prayers for Syd and his family 🙁

I do pray and hope that Draco’s wife changes her mind in the light of day and with some peace of mind.

    LC Roguetek growls and barks:

When my wife was dying, her mother went right off the rails, trying to have me arrested, stealing everything of my wife’s that wasn’t nailed down…

Point of my story is this. The death of a loved one makes people crazy. Some handle that crazy fairly well. Others…dont.

If there’s anything to be done for it, I have no idea.

    Library Czar growls and barks:

Should the worst come you can consider holding a separate remembrance on base for his uniformed brothers. His wife need not be present or invited. My prayers for you and your family.

    LC TerribleTroy growls and barks:

So whats the deal? She pissed at the Mil for this? She pissed at them for not taking care of him properly upon his return, or just in general?

Seems to me the guy lived his life the way he wanted.

I pray he and his family find peace

LC Grammar Czar, G.L.O.R. growls and barks:

What Azygos said. And be assured, even if his wife won’t recognize his service, we who have served will always salute him! Hugs to all of you in this very difficult time.

So sorry to hear this. I was hoping that the updates we were seeing on FB were true.

Sadly, when a spouse or parent disregards their loved ones wishes and goes off on a tangent in the opposite direction, it can cause irreparable harm and bad feelings within the family. I’ve seen it happen first hand. Unfortunately there isn’t a damn thing the rest of the family, or friends can do but let them go ahead with it. Legally they are the ones that have the final say about the arrangements and the rest of the family are left to hurt even more as a result. Hopefully she will come to her senses and do what Draco would have wanted, and allow the family to be able to support her without having such hurt and damaged emotions getting in the way.

    Radical Redneck growls and barks:

I’m so sorry Aggs, I was hoping against hope this wasn’t the case.

I always enjoy swapping postings with Draco. He really gets it – the sicker the shit I link the more he’d enjoys it. I’ve always wished I saw more of him in the instant chats as that would be a blast.

If the worst should happen that would be another Rottie at a ridiculously young age. This has become a sad and disturbing trend. 🙁

LC Sir Rurik, K.o.E. growls and barks:

I an heartbroken about the developments, both the impending passing of Draco, and the sign of dissention that his wife does not appreciate the service which meant so much to him, and to which he devoted so much of his life. While I will refrain from passing any judgment, I will resolutely persist in honoring his military career.
This morning in church I lit a candle for Draco.

    irish19 growls and barks:

I am sorry for your loss, Aggie, as well as yours, Imperator.
I just lost an uncle, another member of the Greatest Generation, this past week.
Prayers and condolences to both your families.

Igor, Imperial Booby growls and barks:

Prayers and condolences to Syd’s family , and prayers especially for Draco *and* his wife.

Time passes, we all grow old and die, we then get to meet in That Great Beyond Known As Heaven. It’s sad when friends pass, but rest assured that we all go top a MUCH better place. Yes, Deej, even you. You may not believe in God, but He knows and loves us all.
