Where has all the gun pr0n gone?

Attention in the Empire!

May I present newly acquired COMBAT TUPPERWARE?

Picked up this complete polymer AR lower today from a local source for $149 plus tax. You can pick one up directly from the manufacturer, New Frontier, for $169 plus shipping to your FFL dealer.

That’s not much more than the price of a stripped lower or LPK some places, and it comes complete with the six-position stock.

I’m probably gonna pin a Chiappa .22LR blowback upper on it for the time being, and make it a tacti-cool plinker and varmint getter, but it’ll probably see service later with a centerfire upper. It’s got a sweet 4.5 pound pull with NO takeup that breaks like a glass rod with minimal post shot travel, and it is tougher (and lighter) than the average forged aluminum lower.

All that being said, here’s a new OPEN THREAD to chew upon.

That is all. Carry on.

Supply is gradually increasing, with retailers starting to get larger shipments. Prices will fall drastically when the shooting public sees increasing supply and stops buying everything on the shelf just because it’s there.

Red Flag News – The Obamas Family Trip to Africa to Cost Up to $100 Million…

(The Weekly Standard) — President Obama and his family will be going to Africa later this month. But the trip won’t be cheap; it’s expected to cost American taxpayers $60 to $100 million, according to the Washington Post.

“When President Obama makes his first extended trip to sub-Saharan Africa later this month, the federal agencies charged with keeping him safe won’t be taking any chances. Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of emergency,” reports the Post.

“Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bullet-proof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts giving 24-hour coverage over the president’s airspace so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.

“The extraordinary security provisions — which will cost the government tens of millions of dollars — are outlined in a confidential internal planning document obtained by The Washington Post. While the preparations appear to be in line with similar travels in the past, the document offers an unusual glimpse into the colossal efforts to protect the U.S. commander-in-chief on trips abroad.”

After the paper questioned the costs of a planned family safari, the White House nixed the plan. “The president and first lady had also planned to take a Tanzanian safari as part of the trip, which would have required the president’s special counter-assault team to carry sniper rifles with high-caliber rounds that could neutralize cheetahs, lions or other animals if they became a threat, according to the planning document. But the White House canceled the safari on Wednesday following inquiries from The Washington Post about the trip’s purpose and expense, according to a person familiar with the decision.”

The paper adds, “Obama’s trip could cost the federal government $60 million to $100 million based on the costs of similar African trips in recent years, according to one person familiar with the journey who was not authorized to speak for attribution. The Secret Service planning document, which was provided to The Post by a person who is concerned about the amount of resources necessary for the trip, does not specify costs.”

I cannot believe no one has mentioned that today in 1775 the US Army was born.

I shamelessly stole this from another site.

I fondly remember the article about the Pakistani protester that died trying to burn the American Flag.

United States of America. Even our flag has a confirmed kill.

Damn, might have to finally build me an AR.

Better do it quickly. The guy who shot up Santa Monica had built his own, and oopsie, he had mental problems. Expect a lot of focus on how we now have to restrict those sorts of things since “absolutely anyone can do it” and “there’s no background check,” and “the guns don’t even have serial numbers”. Eek!

    I LOL’d. Really

Thank you for not calling it tactical tupperware.
Lord, I hate everything gun being tactical.
We have tactical stocks, tactical lights, tactical scopes, tactical scope rings (seriously?) and even (I think I may puke) tactical sling swivels. When I read that one I thought, “You gotta be fuckin’ shittin’ me!”
There is even tactical clothing for the mall ninja crowd. If I ever see an ad for a a tactical jockstrap I may just go berserk and make some news headlines.

To all the mall ninjas and wannabes, the White Feather wannabes, and gun accessory ad copy writers:

Tactical is how you use it, not the crap you hang on it.

I’ll be happy when that stupid fad runs its course.

The “combat tupperware” line has been around ever since the first GLOCK.

I did however use the word “tacti-cool” just because it’s gonna be a fun gun!

I remember the combat tupperware jokes when polymer pistols came on the market. I still hear them sometimes. One of my buddies calls Glocks tupperware that goes bang.

I’m ok with the tacti-cool thing too, though I usually use it pejoratively, like when the local mall ninjas, or the guys that have taken too many tactical rifle courses, show up at the range during the summer in black clothes. (usually black tees or polos with tan 5.11 tactical pants, and often a black tactical ball cap with a cop logo on it) Yeah, they’re tacti-cool.

I wear BDU pants a lot, because they’re comfortable and PRACTICAL (rhymes with tactical). As far as the gun goes, if you can tap out a Triple Threat Drill in 8.1 seconds, yea, you might be tactical. (If you don’t know what a Triple Threat Drill is, you’re a long way from tactical.)

If you can knock a squirrel out of the tree for supper, that’s practical.

If you’re just in the game for looks, you’re tacti-cool and that’s not really cool at all, unless you’re tactical or practical, too.

    That about sum it up?

You summed it up quite well.

BDU pants are comfortable, and I have a couple of pairs that I sometimes wear around the house. I don’t wear them when I go out because my personal style doesn’t include camo except when I actually use it for hunting.
I served in the Air Force before BDUs were invented. (I enlisted two months after the fall of Saigon) We wore OD fatigues and IMHO the pants were the most comfortable pants ever made. I wish they could still be found. I wore out my last pair a long time ago. I’ve been trying to find some ever since but they seem to be extinct.

None of mine are camo. You can find BDU style pants today in lots of different solid colors. I have black, navy, khaki, OD…

Ahh yes, Joe Meaux’s Zombie Killer, the Red Jacket ZK1.

And speaking of gun p0rn, I went to the range yesterday and finally got to deflower my virgin AR. I’ve had it for almost a year, but due to the ammo issues, I couldn’t afford to actually shoot it….until now.
    :em01:

It was mostly a test and familiarization session. The flip sites need adjusting and the scope hasn’t been bore sighted. Still, 80 rounds of happy happy joy joy.
    :em01:

Oh, the range seemed to be running a “Bring a cute girl to the range and let her shoot a machine gun.” day. There was this very pretty Asian lass, maybe mid 20′s, who was watching her boyfriend and I guess either her or his mother shoot. (Mom was hitting the 10 ring with an Uzi at 20 yards)

When I left, the lass was blasting away with a Sterling SMG and giggling like a school girl. Best of all, she was wearing a nice red dress that was very well fitted.
    :em01:

Reminds me of my wife, who is currently in China staying with her sick mom. :(

I also burned through 150 rounds of .45 with my Sig 1911 C3/ I also noticed the range had some new Ruger SR1911′s in and they looked like they had been very popular. (Rentals)
