Will Nobody Stop Those Crazed, Gun Nut Scofflaws? (UPDATED)
In the media, we mean, such as known scofflaw David Gregory who enjoys haranguing law-abiding gun owners while waving around 30 round AR-15 mags on his show in a very menacing fashion indeed.
The DC police is now looking into it, apparently it’s really hard to draw any immediate conclusions from a clear prime time news video of David Gregory waving a 30 round AR-15 magazine around while stating, loudly and clearly, that it is indeed a 30 round AR-15 magazine, the possession of which in DC is a crime, but you don’t want to rush to conclusions.
Particularly when it’s an anointed member of the Lamestream Media who, obviously, don’t have to follow the same laws as the rest of us, the very same laws that they’re advocating that we get more of. Because they’ll clearly be exempt. Had it been Joe Blow doing the same on a grainy YouTube video watched by five people, you can rest assured that he’d have been frog marched off by the DC constabulary the moment they became aware of it.
But not David Gregory because shut up, racist gun nut extremist.
Now, in David’s defense, one might argue that he simply didn’t know that the illegal magazine that he was waving around was, indeed, illegal in DC, he’s a journalist after all and, as such, cannot possibly be expected to know neither Jack nor Shit about that which he flaps his gums about, but even that “defense” is further complicated by allegations that David and NBC sought a permit to wave the menacing, mass murdering weapon of mass destruction ammunition carrier around on air, but were denied permission by the MPD.
That would be very — interesting — if true, because now “ignorance of the law” would no longer be any sort of a defense and it’s a pretty shaky one to begin with. That would mean that he’s a scofflaw as well. Not much of a stretch considering the “for me but not for thee” mentality that pervades the EneMedia.
Obviously, His Majesty does not wish for anybody to be sent to the slammer for violating a blatantly un-Constitutional “law”, including poor David, but he’s the one pushing for such laws. At least he should be made liable when he himself takes a giant piss all over them.
Or he could challenge the verdict on Constitutional grounds. We’d be right behind him in that. The sheer irony of seeing GFW and arrogant arsehole David Gregory trying to stay out of gaol by bitterly clinging to the 2nd Amendment would be priceless!
But the bottom line is this: Either the un-Constitutional “laws” of DC have to go or David has to go. To jail. Do not pass “Start”, do not collect $200.

Looks like David “Lucy” Gregory has some ‘splaining to do. Of course, nothing will happen because He’s Better Than You™, as his sending his kids to schools with armed security while at the same time volubly protesting against your kids’ schools being similarly protected proves. So why is he not clapped in irons and charged yet?

Some of us (~ wink~) with training can do a mag switch or a weapons switch in less than 2 seconds. Some of our instructors used to put ‘dummy’ rounds in our M4s which would simulate a jam and force us to change to a different weapon…normally a sidearm. Ammo amount has rarely been a decisive factor in a firefight. (Although carrying 2 times a basic load never hurt.) Controlled, precise, aimed fire is more important than the movie ‘spread and pray’ image.
It also goes along the lines that although serrated blades look nasty..I can do more damage with a straight blade. It’s what you train with that makes the diff…

I think the law is wrong and should be challenged on Constitutional grounds but I really, really want him to sit in a jail cell while it’s going on.
Prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. In fact, bring in Mike Nifong and Angela Corey to overprosecute the bejesus out of him. Pour encourager les autres, Fiat justitia ruat caelum and all that.
It is funny that nobody seems to have raised the point as to how easy it was for him to get it.
More importantly, has anyone even confirmed if the magazine in question was real or just a prop? Because here is the thing: there are attorneys who clear just about everything that gets broadcasted these days. Beforehand. NBC obviously cantacted MPD and asked it it would be alright to have a real and functional clip for its program and were turned down. But that certainly doesn’t stop NBC from having either a fake or a non-functioning clip to use as a visual aid.
There is something else to consider. I suppose an argument could be made for protection under the FIRST Amendment.
I just don’t see this going anywhere. On the scale of Important Shit To Do™ this probably rates right up there with the cops responding to a report of a stolen shopping cart by a homeless person.
I also see the irony where the NRA would be in the position of defending NBC and David Gregory.
I’ve always thought the limit on the size of magazines to be … well, idiotic. What is the difference between carrying around ten 10-round clips and three 30-round clips? So you run out of ammo quicker in the smaller clips and you click the release and slam a new clip in. What kind of time do you lose? Two seconds? Maybe even less?

And one thing a lot of people forget is that there are TWO basic mag caps for an M16/M4 weapon system, a 30 rnd mag and a 20 rnd mag. A lot of guys I know hated the 30 rnd mags because the springs would get worn out too early and the 20 rnd mags were more reliable.

They actually believe that the rules don’t apply to them…and he will get away with it. Whereas if you or I got caught with an empty one after you forgot it after going to the range your car would be seized and you’d never get back because you’d be sitting in the can. And people wonder why I avoid DC like the plague.

I think that the larger capacity mags are more of a gimmick than anything else.

The magazine could have been rendered non-functional with a blob of JB Weld, in which case it may be legal (I’m no lawyer). Perhaps the DC Police is waiting for NBC to tell them that the glue is dried, and they can look now.
As far as AR magazines go, it’s kind of a sliding scale of reliability. I get only name brand steel magazines, and have never had a problem with magazines that hold 20 rounds or less. I’ve been known to whack 30 round magazines to get them to feed properly, and I won’t trust 50 round magazines at all. I’ve never used the ultra-high capacity helical mags, but from what I’ve seen, they fail at least as often as they work correctly.
Mag capacity also depends on what caliber you’re using. With a .223, you have (as already astutely noted), about a 50% chance of being able to use a 30-round mag successfully. Shooting with a .308, anything more than 20 rounds is going to render a clusterfuck just about every time after the first 5 reloads.
Every time some dumbass talks about “high capacity” and “rapid fire”, I am for some reason reminded of the shoot-out in Unforgiven – where everyone else is shooting as fast as they can, and hitting nothing, while Clint is just taking his time and picking off people with every shot. It’s a great visual for taking your time to pick your shot.
