A Great Senior Moment

Swiped from a Facebook post….once in a while, you find a gem there!

Here’s a quote from a government employee who witnessed a recent interaction between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester in a D. C. airport.

There were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets on the evils of America. I politely declined to take one.

The elderly woman was behind me getting off the escalator and a young (20-ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.

The young protester put her hand on the old woman’s shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice the young lady said, “Lady, don’t you care about the children of Iraq?”

The old woman looked up at her and said, “Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea , and a son in Vietnam.
All three died so a bitch like you could have the right to stand here and badmouth our country.

If you touch me again, I’ll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it.”

Once you’re through chuckling, you can call this your Thursday Open Thread™!

Seems that we still dont know who the “rebels” in Libya are. Fox (in its infinite wisdom) reported that they were possibly AQ because the rebels were yelling Allah Akbar when firing their weapons. They lost a credibility point with me for that missive. They may very well be AQ, but to reach that conclusion on the “Allah Akbar” theory tells me they have no clue as to the cultural environment of the operation.

Funny how Obama began jumping through hoops once the “Arab League” issued their statement supporting the No Fly zone.

This Libya thing is nothing but a huge CLUSTER FUCK.

I understand a social worker showed up at the obamas sisters abode, just before spring break. Checkin’ on the 4 kids, ya know. They were running around, creating a ruckus. She yelled at 1 of them, “Leroy, stop pickin’ your nose.” She yells at another, “Leroy, keep quiet!” She screams at a third child, “Close that refrigerator!” The social worker asked her, “You named all your kids Leroy?” That be right, she said. The social worker then asks, “What if you only want one of them?” She said, “Then I calls them by their last name.”

Why are Democrats dependent on America FAILING? Why do Democrats WANT us to fail? Why do they FORCE failure on us? Why can’t they support American SUCCESS?

Because the Democrat Party HATES America, HATES Capitalism, HATES individual freedom.

They’d much prefer a totalitarian Communist dictatorship.

We are a nation occupied by a hostile, murderous, criminal force. That force is the Democrat Party, the party that wholeheartedly supports acts of economic terrorism against our own nation.

Wow. All that animosity towards a couple of people who look at things to determine whether they can find any validity in a story or not? They tend to be right more often than not, and have been known to correct themselves when they’ve been wrong. In this particular story, they admit that they can’t find any validity to the story but can’t rule it out, either. They do have the time line of when the story first appeared, and the various versions of the story to work with. I personally remember this story from back then, when I used to lurk on Freepers.
Seriously, it doesn’t matter if it is true or not, it is just a humorous anecdote.
As far as Snopes being a “buncha fucking leftists” you probably should read the debunking at that email rumor. Both proprietors of Snopes are mostly apolitical. Barbara Mikkelson is a Canadian and does not vote or participate in elections or political activites. Her husband, David Mikkelson was a registered Republican in 2000 and didn’t declare a party affiliation in 2008. He says his “sole involvement in politics” is voting on election day.
Try directing your anger at the source of a debunked story and not at the person(s) who debunked it. Snopes has pointed out a lot of stories that Liberals like to rely on too. Sometimes they get it wrong, and instead of getting mad about it, contact them and give them some information they can use to steer them in the correct direction. They are only as good as those who help them. I remember contacting them a few years ago with something that I was sure they had gotten wrong. It turns out that the exonerating information I thought I had was itself incorrect, but the fact is they went out of their way to see if it changed their findings. They are only trying to get it right.

The insinuation was that we were conducting combat missions on the ground when in reality that isn’t happening. When one of our planes go down, they will move heaven and hell to try and retrieve personnel, but they aren’t using those troops for routine combat missions.

Ok, see now your introducing words like “routine” and “destabilize.” Here’s the problem with that (identifying by the primary mission) will it still be “No Boots on the ground” if we send “advisors” to train the rebels? Words have meaning and absolute statements are absolute. It was a very foolish thing to say, as not only is it hard to live up to, but it also placed self imposed restrictions. I beleive he only said to placate his “base.”

    DJ Allyn, ITW says:

It doesn’t mean that the CIA isn’t (or hasn’t been) conducting missions to destabalize — you can probably count on it.

Given his reluctance, I’m not so confident on that front either. So I lay 55 to 45 that is occurring. I guess my whole problem with thing is the ambiguity. I just don’t think we should be involved in this at any level. I think the UN is fubar’d. I don’t see our National Interest on a level that warrants exposing our personnel to the risks. I think there are some VERY bad precedents being set here and from the outside it reeks of amateur hour at every turn. There is no coherency, this admin cant even get “on message” for highest vis positions, can you imagine what it’s like at the intermediary level?

The Brits were on board and launched 12 cruise missiles, then started to worry they were going to deplete their inventory. I won’t disparage the RAF, because I haven’t heard anything, plus or minus about them in this.

    The UN backed it.

The Arab League wanted us to intervene, and when the first bombs are dropped, they change their minds.

We’ve sent in 124 cruise missiles, flown missions that take 25 hours and lost an F-15.

Now we’re going to turn over the control of this (though we never officially had control) to a consortium of politicians to decided the next strategy.

I think we got suckered into this.

Let the Arab League enforce the NFZ, they have some damn good planes (bought from us) and pilots (trained by us), hell, I’d even let then take advantage of our AWAC capabilities so they don’t bump into each other, but this fight, even with the instability of the oil market, is not worth our troops lives.

A couple of points about the 15, Yes they are old but they are still among the best fighters out there. It’s a great design and is constantly being updated and sold to new clients.

The latest variant is an updated 15E called a “silent Eagle” that is an impressive aircraft. And one that the AF might want to look at.

That said, the fleet is very old and airframes wear out no matter how much new electronics you hang on them. The oldest aircraft the B-52s and KC-135s take tremendous effort to keep flying. You have to pay attention to hours flown and things like metal fatigue.

We need new aircraft. One choice might be to purchase updated versions of current aircraft or even remanufacturer some existing one (ala the A-10C or C-5M)

I would prefer to spend money on newer types, its more expensive but a better investment. I have a feeling we will need all the F-22s and F-35s we can get someday.

A downed A/C (aircraft) is a COMPLETELY different matter. There are two operations when there is a downed A/C. One is called PR, or Personnel Recovery. Believe me, ALL shit stops until the crew is recovered. I was ‘involved’ in a couple in Iraq when we lost some helos, to include one in 2004 when 1st CAV DIV lost a Kiowa.

The other part of that is called a DART (Downed Aircraft Recovery Team). Their mission is to recover the A/C if possible, and it really depends on the condition of the A/C and the security in the area. (I doubt they will deploy a DART in Libya to get that specific bird.)

Back in my day, when the ships were made of wood and the men were made of steel :-) we called it a TRAP, Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel. Same thing though, probably just different terminology between the Corps and Army. It was one of the MEU/SOC qualifications, along with NEO, Non-Combatant Evacuation. While Tears of the Sun is a good example or a NEO, MEU’s trained to do it for thousands of personnel. It usually involved seizing/securing an embassy, airfield, or even a damned soccer field (A regulation one can accommodate a CH-53 Sea Stallion.) That shit’s the Corps’ bread and butter during “peace time”.

    LC Draco growls and barks:

Yeah, Crunchie…NEO normally is supposed to involve hundreds, if not thousands, of personnel. (And I do not think the Corps… or the Army… or the Navy… or the Coast Guard… or the Air Force are going to see ‘peace’ anytime soon.)

BTW, the CH-53 is one bird I have actually had the pleasure of riding in and jumping out of….was a nice jump, the landing…not so much. :em02:

Hence the quotie thingies around the word peace. I meant that even when the nation was at peace, Marines were getting shot at somewhere in the world.

I never jumped out of a 53, or any other bird for that matter, personal risk avoidance policy (The world’s dangerous enough already :-) ) but man, talk about the Cadillac of troop haulers. The one bird I’ve ever been in that didn’t smell like hydraulic fluid or drip some unknown fluid on ya in the jump seats.
