237 Years
That’s how long my beloved Corps has served our republic. From the days when they wore forest green tunics and marched beneath the Gadsen flag, to today when they wear digital MarPat and serve as our nation’s expeditionary force in readiness, they have remained true to their core principles, the warrior ethos, and the motto Semper Fidelis.
Tonight I will have the distinct honor to attend the Birthday Ball as a guest of the South Florida Wounded Warriors Regiment. I have celebrated the birthday under many better times, and some worse, but this birthday will offer an opportunity to recharge my soul among my brothers. In the end that is what the day, and the brotherhood, is all about.
To all my fellow Leathernecks, happy birthday, fair winds and following seas.
Semper Fidelis

Happy Birthday and here’s to many, many more Jarhead
Happy birthday and a hearty oorah!
Happy Birthday to the Corps (which my father was a proud part of), fair winds, and Semper Fi!
Happy Birthday Mother Green! If you go here, there is a tribute to the Corps on its 237th birthday and if you donate to the Semper Fi Fund while there, they match your donation. I’ll match the first $50 donated by Rotties. That would triple the donation to a great group which uses over 94% of donations to directly help injured heroes.
On this occasion, it is appropriate to remember a few of the greatest things ever said by or about the USMC (you all may have others):
“Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference. The Marines don’t have that problem.” – President Ronald Reagan, 1985
“Come on, you sons of bitches – do you want to live forever?” – Attributed to Gunnery Sergeant Dan Daly, USMC, Belleau Wood, June 1918. (The occasion for which earned the Marines the label of Teufelhunde (Devil Dogs) from the German Army)
“Take me to the Brig. I want to see the real Marines.” – Major General Chesty Puller, USMC – while on a Battalion inspection. (Regarded by many as one of if not the greatest Marine to have ever lived)
“There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and those who have met them in battle. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.” – Unknown (I don’t have this attribution – someone else may)
Congratulations Marines, on 237 years of unmatched service to mission and country.
It is my pleasure to wish the USMC a happy 237th birthday.
From a former Navy man (please don’t hold it against me).
Done!
Ffity bucks Neal….#4…..I have saved the e-mail if any one wants verification. Maybe send it to Misha.

Happy Birthday Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children!
For your enjoyment, I offer a joke that I would share with MAG 26 when we shared hangar space…
Some time after the US Army came up with our Army Strong! slogan, the other branches of the service decided that they too wanted a single-word slogan that summed up their branch. The assembled Joint Chiefs got together and finally decided.
Navy Admiral Smith smiled and said “Navy NICE!”
After a few moments, Air Force General Johnson leaned back and said “Air Force SMART!”
Finally, Marine General Lazarus shifted his cigar to the other side of his mouth and spat out “Marines – BETTER.”
Hooah!

Navy here also, Flounder – we gave ‘em a ride and they did the dirty work.

Marine Corps….happy birthday from a respectful Zoomie. I’ve just spent three years in an embassy with some hard-ass Marines providing security, and my nine year old daughter is still in love with one of the Marines that left more than a year ago. Breaking hearts and heads for over two centuries, keep it up you rough and dirty bastards!
SEMPER FI, Crunchie! And happy birthday, brother.
Next time you’re up around the Socialist Republic of Ohio, don’t forget to give me a holler.
FrankOK says…
Not to mention providing us with doctors, dentists, chaplains and every Marine’s hero, corpsmen. I can take being called “Jarhead” by the likes of you folks anytime. It’s a lot more palatable than being called a “cold blooded murderer” by some scum who was allegedly one of our own.
Happy birthday, Marines!
You guys are the best, Crunch, it’s that simple. You took every shitty job and got it done. I just think of a proud, young Marine named Joshua…., we used to suck suds, just talk of what we would do when we got out, he never got his Chevy truck, but he saw to it I got my Ford…thanks to guys like him.
And the rest of you……
So if you wonder why, you have your answer……
Happy Birthday, Jarheads, and SEMPER FI!

From this ol’ retired Squid (from the airdale side of the house) ” Semper Fi! Marines!!!”
Flounder, you got that right. Another squid (airdale type) that points and laughs becuase WE got U.S. Marines and everybody else has to get by with a half-assed wannabe impersonation.
Ooo-Rah!!
Guy S.– Legend has it that the first one in line at Tun Tavern handed the goose-quill to the second signer and remarked, “Ya know, things were DIFFERENT in the old Corps!”
Squids, Wingnuts, whatever. From an old Dogface, there’s reason the US Marines is always capitalized. Keep up the incredibly good work, Devil Dogs! (Yes, even you, Gunny Washington, you magnificent bastard!)
Just noticed something interesting: Take a look at Bing’s frontpage today. For comparison purposes, you might also glance at Google’s.
