After all, the unemployment rate just fell from 8.3% to 8.1%, didn’t it, you racist wingnuts?
Except, well, that’s only due to the Bureau of
Incumbent Job Protection Labor Statistics are cooking the books in ways that make Enron’s shenanigans look positively innocent by comparison.
The unemployment rate dropped to 8.1% from 8.3%, but in this case with declines in both the labor force (-368,000) and the household-survey measure of employment (-119,000). With labor force participation falling back to a new cycle low of 63.5%, the drop in the unemployment rate should not be reported as good news.
Yeah, so 370,000 more Americans completely gave up on ever finding a job in King Putt’s “recovery economy”, which means that they became “non-persons” as far as the Reichspropagandaministerium is concerned. They may not be having a job, but since they’re not looking for one they aren’t unemployed either. Even though they’re not employed. We suppose their lack of employment isn’t really unemployment-unemployment or something. Funemployment, maybe? Anyway, Praise the Almighty Obamessiah! Or else racist.
We’re used to that sort of laughable tricks from Politburo “statisticians”, of course. We mean, those are the same clowns who keep telling us that inflation doesn’t exist because their very very scientific index tells them so. The index that doesn’t include such unnecessary frivolities as food and energy, items that hardly any Americans ever spend money on and thus can’t possibly affect their household bottom line, so FORWARD!
In an alternate universe where overpaid, underworked government statisticians’ jobs are to inform rather than creatively cook up excuses for the incumbent administration, actual unemployment figures would look like this:
– If the labor force participation rate was the same as when Obama took office in January 2009, the unemployment rate would be 11.2%.
– If the participation rate had just stayed the same as last month, the unemployment rate would be 8.4%.
But we can’t have that sort of factual nonsense polluting the minds of voters. It might upset the poor dears over tea and, after all, we have an election that needs to be properly rigged coming up, don’t we?
