Nice Shootin’ Tex.
Seriously, nice shooting.
EARLY, Texas — An officer under fire in a tense trailer park standoff was saved when an armed Good Samaritan grabbed his pistol to help take out the suspect.
Good Samaritan has a different, more awesome definition in Texas it would seem.
The incident began when Charles Ronald Conner shot and killed two neighbors and their dogs in an quickly-escalating argument over excrement found on his property, according to KENS 5.com.
Talk about taking shit to a whole new level.
As Sgt. Steven Means of the Early Police Department arrived at the bloody scene, Conner hid behind a tree and fired at the officer from an assault rifle. Means took cover behind his police cruiser and returned fire using his own assault rifle, but neighbor Vic Stacy, 66, said that from inside his trailer, it appeared the officer might have difficulty getting a clear shot — so he leant a hand.
It is the neighborly thing to do after all. Someone’s momma raised him right.
“I thought ‘he’s fixin’ to kill that boy,’” Stacy told the Brownwood Bulletin. “And that’s why I squared off and hit him in the leg and knocked him down.”
And modest too.
Police estimate Stacy was about 150 feet away when he fired his .357 magnum pistol, striking Conner four times. Investigators determined as Conner returned fire to Stacy, Means also hit Conner at least twice — and a combination of their bullets killed him.
Yep kiddies, over 50 yards, with a wheelgun, against a rifle wielding assailant who was behind cover. Momma taught that boy how to shoot too.
Police praised Stacy for his outstanding shooting in the incident,…
No shit, ya think?
“The citizen that fired these shots did a tremendous job out there,” Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs said. “Had he not had a gun and the presence of mind to do this, we don’t know what the outcome would’ve been.”
And the simple fact that a Sheriff said this, in those exact words, reinforces why I love the Lone Star state so much.
God Bless Texas, and good job Mr. Stacy and Sgt. Means.

FOUR .357 Magnum rounds plus 2 (likely) 5.56 mm rifle rounds?
Yeah, I’m afraid ‘killed him’ might be a case of British-like understatement. I’m thinking the vernacular ‘ventilated’ might be closer.
Was there enough left to identify? Or did they just go by the bad guy’s address where the stain was found?

Off topic, but we would like to let the Rotties know that Delftsman’s Mother, Josephina, passed away today, just a few weeks shy of 60 years married to Delft’s Dad. She and Delfts’ Dad moved to America nearly as long ago, with no English at all between them and about $60, a newborn, a toddler (Delfts), and their suitcases. That takes a brave woman and a determined man.
It was time… there were so many, many things that weren’t going right for her physically, but it still hurts to lose her. Hard. If it is your way, prayers would be appreciated, especially for Delftsman’s Dad, Willem.
Delfts/Beth* A.
I remember when this story first came out. There was some confusion about the distance – it was initially reported as yards, not feet. Fifty yards over iron sights freehand with a large caliber revolver is some good shooting, much more so when someone is shooting back at you, and even more so when he is doing it with a rifle. My Dan Wesson .357 with 6″ barrel was a great revolver, but if I absolutely had to hit something 50 yards away, I’d much prefer my AR15 (both tragically lost in a freak boating accident. Yesterday).
If I had knocked the bastard over with a 357, I’m fairly sure I would have been looking for a way to get out from in front of his rifle and wait for him to quit moving, which shouldn’t be too long. Hats off to Mr. Stacy. Not only did he have what it took to do it, he had what it took to try.
So I’m guessing there’ll be no charges filed? I guess Texas just likes making The Baby Jesus smile.
I’m sorry, Delftsman….., may God welcome her home. And for your dad……I feel it too, very strongly. My prayers and best wishes for him too.
Delftsman, my condolences. Prayers given and prayers sent.
Dammit, Delfts, I’m so sorry to hear that.
May G-d bless you and embrace you in His comforting love.
