The spirit of their ancestors shall keep them
Less than a few days ago, three soldiers of the New Zealand armed forces were killed in a roadside bomb blast. The soldiers were part of New Zealand’s Provincial Reconstruction Team, which for many years has worked tirelessly to bring peace and security to the lives of the people of Bamyan province.
At each base is a carved doorway, in keeping with the traditions and beliefs of an ancient people, the Maori, whose warriors strike fear in the hearts of their enemies, whose heritage and beliefs span thousands of years, a proud people who have never forgotten their fire and courage , the birthright of the children of Ao Te Aroa, the land of the Long White Cloud.
And none of their fallen brothers and sisters will leave without the haka to honour their souls.
Remember them.

The whole country of Afghanistan is not worth one of these lives.

Yep, there comes a time when people need to stand on their own two feet and fight for their own freedom. As much as I would like to dig my heels in and say “Don’t leave till the country is secure and democracy is thriving” (Mostly cause it pisses off the left to see the military succeed) I can’t. It’s not me bleeding. It’s not me missing my family. THe logical part of my brain says it’s time to come home and let them work things out on their own.
One caveat though….. when we leave, they need to know that the next time an attack comes from their corner of the globe the response will be ICBM’s.

I’ve been muttering this for a while, tho my phrasing is along the lines of “We will turn your countries into glass, starting with Mecca.”
