Heartache! Blogosphere Ambivalent About Douchebag Adam Smith Being Fired For Felony Public Douchebaggery

Snarky headline out of the way, this is in fact not an easy question with an easy answer, when we think about it.
We all agree that we should be allowed to do on our own time and dime what we want (as long as it’s legal) without risking termination, right? And we’ve all heard examples over the years of people being fired for Being Conservative in Public over the years, right? So why shouldn’t the same standard apply in the case of Adam Douchebag Smith?
The way His Imperial Majesty sees it in this particular case is that Adam the Douche committed two additional stupidities here (other than being a bullying douche), and those are:
1) Filming his recognizable visage while being a douche and inserting it into one of the biggest stories of the month, if not the year so far, which means that his assholery was almost certain to be seen by clients of his employers and
2) Tagging his triumphant video of himself bullying little girls with his title and the name of the company he worked for.
Is there any conceivable way that this could not have hurt his employer and, followup question: Doesn’t his employer have a right to limit the damage done to their brand by one of their employees? Or is it a “violation of his rights” to terminate him when he, in effect, stands up in the middle of a crowded plaza wearing his company’s logo and behaves like a complete and utter fucknozzled asshat with a doucheberry on top?
We can all agree, we should hope, that the checkout girl in the video isn’t responsible for anything her CEO says, that’s part of why Smith is such an inexcusable running sore on the arse of mankind, but shouldn’t corporations have a reasonable expectation of not being associated with the disgusting private behavior of their employees and, once the damage is done, a right to limit the damage by ending that association?

I’m gonna have to say the company is in the right here. And add to that, I’m almost embarrassed to admit to living in the same state as this utter douchnozzle. I just wish there was a Chick-Fil-A closer to me than Tucson… (I’m down in Sierra Vista, where they keep me locked in the dungeon on Ft. Huachuca)
Full disclosure – I sent an e-mail to the company this afternoon. It took a couple of tries, as the server crashed by the time I had finished writing it on their Contact Us page.
When Smith first put this video up on YouTube, he gave all his contact info – his LinkedIn page with his resume, his employer’s name with his title (CFO – not some peon employee) – and therefore made them part of the story.
Nobody had to track his info down. Once the comments started coming back way against him, he pulled the video, but it had already been copied and reposted.
And really – does ANYBODY believe this guy when he points out to Rachel that he’s heterosexual? This guy comes across as being about as straight as Richard Simmons.

You’re absolutely right Misha. I saw Ace whining about this on Twitter. His point seemed to boil down to the fact that people who are dicks (like him) shouldn’t face any consequences for their assholery except some taunting. That sounds suspiciously like a lib talking point to me. I don’t think there was any need for people to call his employer to try to get him fired, BUT when you are a CxO, you are a very public face of a company. So when you go out of your way to try to humiliate a grunt worker at a different company and proudly post video evidence of your douchebaggery for the whole world to see, why should you get any slack from your employer? You are dragging them down in the mud, and termination is an appropriate response. This isn’t the case of “help, help, I’m being repressed!” that Ace is making it out to be. He got shitcanned for being a shithead and embarrassing his employer, not for his political views. I hate fucking pussy-ass bullies like that who think they scored some Great Victory against The Man, when all they really did was make the day of some poor girl who busts her ass for minimum wage more miserable. I’ll second LC Gregory’s FETE!
An elementary rule, if you deliberately try to draw fire, do not be surprised if you get shot at; and do not be surprised if others do not want to welcome you into their bunker.
We don’t know this for sure, but might it be possible that this Clownshoes had been already making an asshat of himself around his company for some time? This is not the sort of thing that appears like evil magic from out of the blue. Betcha this was a last straw incident. Sayonara Shithead!
I’m with Rurik. My bet is this was a public incident that gave his boss cover to can him. If I employ someone I don’t care what they do when they are off the clock till it effects me in loss of revenue, then it is time to cut ties. I would imagine most employers are the same way. I doubt that as a CFO this guy spent much time with customers and I don’t see anyone deciding to stop dealing with Vante just because one of the higher ups is a shit stain. Maybe if it was their sales rep, but not some guy they will never see. So yep……. it makes sense. He wasn’t liked, probably a dick 99% of the time, and this gave them the chance to drop some dead weight.
I have to point out that the young lady at the window really needs some kudos. I would hire her in a second. She visibly flinches at the crap being spewed at her, but stays calm and professional though the whole ordeal. I doubt that I would have been able to keep that ” the customer is always right” attitude…Hell NO!!!! I would have gone off after he told me I should be ashamed of myself for working there.
OT: I was up visiting my son at JB Lewis-McChord a couple weeks ago and we went to the air show wearing my old school Rottie T-shirt (big logo, offer again) and had a couple of lurkers recognize it and come up to talk to me. The Empire is really larger than we know.
Actions have consequences. If I post something here that is racist or vulgar wouldn’t Misha have the right to ban me as this is HIS site? When I was at HQMC I worked directly for a three star and the rules were simple; you do anything that brings discredit upon this office or the general and you will be CRUCIFIED…no questions asked.
If you know the rules going in then don’t whine like a bitch when it gets broken off in your ass.

The girl at the window is a credit to her profession and deserves all the accolades she is getting, but I have read elsewhere that she is uncomfortable with the publicity, so I will respect her privacy. All I will say is…well done.

Something else to take into consideration here is the character of Senor Douche. Here we have a guy who thinks abusing some poor kid making minimum wage manning a drive-through window gives him some kind of moral ascendancy. Can you imagine what a delight it is to work with this man? Wouldn’t you like to take a long car trip with him and listen to him drone on and on about what a wonderful person HE is, because he hates those evil people who don’t agree with his wise and enlightened self? I would be willing to place five bucks on the possibility that his company was actually glad to have a reason to terminate this termite.

Obama Campaign Sues to Restrict Military Voting

President Barack Obama, along with many Democrats, likes to say that, while they may disagree with the GOP on many issues related to national security, they absolutely share their admiration and dedication to members of our armed forces. Obama, in particular, enjoys being seen visiting troops and having photos taken with members of our military. So, why is his campaign and the Democrat party suing to restrict their ability to vote in the upcoming election?
On July 17th, the Obama for America Campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and the Ohio Democratic Party filed suit in OH to strike down part of that state’s law governing voting by members of the military. Their suit said that part of the law is “arbitrary” with “no discernible rational basis.”
Currently, Ohio allows the public to vote early in-person up until the Friday before the election. Members of the military are given three extra days to do so. While the Democrats may see this as “arbitrary” and having “no discernible rational basis,” I think it is entirely reasonable given the demands on servicemen and women’s time and their obligations to their sworn duty.
The National Defense Committee reports:
[f]or each of the last three years, the Department of Defense’s Federal Voting Assistance Program has reported to the President and the Congress that the number one reason for military voter disenfranchisement is inadequate time to successfully vote.
I think it’s unconscionable that we as a nation wouldn’t make it as easy as possible for members of the military to vote. They arguably have more right to vote than the rest of us, since it is their service and sacrifice that ensures we have the right to vote in the first place.
If anyone proposes legislation to combat voter fraud, Democrats will loudly scream that the proposal could “disenfranchise” some voter, somewhere. We must ensure, they argue, that voting is easy and accessible to every single voter. Every voter, that is, except the men and women of our military.
Make no mistake, the Democrat lawsuit is intended to disenfranchise some unknown number of military voters. The judge should reject it with prejudice.

Standing in a window dealing takeout food should be an olympic event. Standing in one spot all day is MUCH more fatiguing than moving around. Dealing with picky/self absorbed/psychotic customers all day and into the night would scare the crap out’ve many o’ the best ‘shrinks… but there stands Rachael.

Straight up – being a douchebag in public is not grounds for being terminated. What got him fired is associating his company’s name in a very public way on a controversial topic with some hideously bad behavior. When you wear your company’s logo, you are a representative of your company and as such have to abide by rules of professional and courteous behavior.
In other words, if you want to be a douchenozzle, don’t drag your company’s name into it.
