Our pardons if you’ve seen this before, but this just freaked us the fuck out:

YouTube Preview Image

Why is this so damn freaky, you say?

Because “Emily” is a CGI animation, not an actual human being.

Tiny hints when you re-watch it, but still. Had we only seen that clip in passing, we’d have been thinking “nice girl, wonder who she is?”

It IS friggin’ spooky some of the stuff they are able to do now with Image metrics.

I’ve been doing a little work in North Vancouver over the past year or so with some of this technology. Some of the stuff we did on Supernatural was with IM. But it still is currently cost prohibitive for most television applications. Much cheaper to deal with the live meat.

Oh, and marker-less facial mocap where the software has to analyze it? (Which takes time, believe me) There’s about four companies you can buy the software to do that off the shelf. Why do they still used markered facial mocap? Simple- real-time feedback instead of waiting for the software to analyze it. You can set it up to feed your character rig (usually done in Motionbuilder) and see the character’s performance as the actor is doing it, instead of discovering that the actor did something funny with their upper lip a week later….

Democrats Backpedal as China Readies $15.1 Billion Canadian Oil Deal
by Wynton Hall 28 Jul 2012

When President Barack Obama blocked the Keystone Pipeline, Republicans said the move would encourage Canada to pursue oil deals with China instead of the United States and cede a massive chunk of North American oil assets to the communist nation.

Now, with China’s state-run oil company CNOOC poised to cut a $15.1 billion deal–the largest ever foreign acquisition for a Chinese company–with Canadian oil company Nexen, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are in full backpedal mode.

You forgot to mention the ten times he golfed in the past six months also, which works out to one visit to the links every two weeks.

It is a red herring. First of all, the job council hasn’t even met since January. It isn’t as though Obama just hasn’t shown up, it’s that NOBODY has shown up because nothing has been scheduled. What is the job council going to do, anyways? The president doesn’t create jobs — his responsibility begins and ends with the Executive Branch of the US Government, he can’t tell you to hire more people or pay them more money. The president can give speeches, cajole, propose, beg, but that is about it. He can’t “get out of the way” because he never was IN the way. It is about as ludicrous as Romney telling you that he is going to start creating jobs on day one.

And really, Glad, what do you expect in the fourth year of ANY president’s first term? All a president is going to do in the first term will have been done in the first two, maybe three years. The fourth year will be almost completely tied up by campaigning for the next term. The same goes for Congress. It is an inherent problem with our election process, where the election season starts around about eighteen months from any given election, and in order for incumbents to keep up with challengers, they too have to start their fundraising early.

But sure, you would rather Obama not do ANY fundraising or campaigning. For you, that would be the next best thing for him not running at all.

In a perfect world, the campaign season would be limited to the last thirty days of a term. Neither incumbent nor challenger would be allowed to publicly campaign or raise funds until that last thirty days of a term. That last thirty days would basically be treated as a holiday period where the government is essentially shut down except for essential business. No new legislation, no bill signing, no official duties except in an extreme emergency.

But this isn’t a perfect world.

    Also, this:

    1) Democrat in office, economy tanks, energy prices skyrocket, unemployment soars, food stamp recipients break new records — “the president can’t really do anything, he’s not to blame, it’s not like the position matters at all so you’re all being silly.”

    2) Republican in office, economy recovers after devastating attack, unemployment hovering between 4-5%, referred to as “the worst economy since Hoover”, followed by Democrat takeover of Congress, then the White House with predictable and horrifying results — “IT’S ALL BUSH’S FAAAAAAAAAAULT!”

Conclusion: Anything bad that happens under a Republican president is his fault, nothing good that happens under him has anything to do with him if it’s mentioned at all.

Anything bad that happens under a Democrat Fascist president is somebody else’s fault (typically the last Republican president no matter how long ago it was that he was in office), anything even remotely good that happens (or just something that isn’t out-and-out horrible) is a resounding, fantastic, precedent-breaking feat of genius, gutsy calls and statesmanship attributed to and ONLY to the Democrat Fascist president in charge.

Let’s just substitute Obama with ANY OTHER incumbent. Of course he/they will. That is rule one in politics — claim credit for the good stuff and blame someone else for the bad stuff.

Case in point: Representative Larry Kissell voted against Obamacare in 2010 and then voted for its repeal earlier this year. Yet in June, he had no problem taking credit for securing almost $400k in federal money provided by the act “[...] for a new health care clinic near China Grove in Rowan County. I’m glad to have worked to help secure this funding and will continue to make sure that our tax dollars are being spent here at home to put people to work and take care of our citizens.”

I picked this example of a Democrat so you wouldn’t complain that I am only picking on Conservatives. They are ALL doing it.

    Emperor Misha I says:

    1) Democrat in office, economy tanks, energy prices skyrocket, unemployment soars, food stamp recipients break new records — “the president can’t really do anything, he’s not to blame, it’s not like the position matters at all so you’re all being silly.”

I love the meme about “energy prices doubling” since Obama came into office. Hello? Is your long-term memory shorted out? In January 2009 gas prices were right around two bucks. Why? Because the people doing all the speculating no longer had the money to speculate. In fact, many of them were circling the drain, so gas prices were at their natural price. But think back a couple of years earlier than that, when gas prices were MUCH higher than they were under Obama. I recall that the defense going on hereabouts then was that it wasn’t the president’s fault, since he didn’t set gas pricing.

Also, unless you only came aware in January 2009, (or you suffer from an acute case of electionem selectivam memoria) the economy was tanking LONG before Obama was even elected. I have a theory that John McCain purposely threw the election in 2008 because he knew the next four years were going to be a nightmare for whomever was in office — especially a Republican. To continue that theme, I suspect that Romney is also the throwaway candidate this time around also, because regardless of who occupies the White House for the next 4 – 6 years, it is still going to be a rocky road to travel. I also think that things not only WILL, but will HAVE to get worse before they can get better — and this will be on a worldwide scale, not anything that we will be able to do on our own.

For a long time I blamed Bush. I don’t so much any more. I think this was inevitable, given the push towards a “global economic system” — or as Pappy Bush once coined it, “A New World Order”.

I realize that some people need pictures to understand a concept, but take a close look and tell me what was happening right around the time that HUGE drop in gas prices started in October of 2008. THAT was a friggin’ freefall, that went from $3.87 down to $1.61 in six fucking weeks.

You will also notice that the all time national average high did NOT occur with “Obongo”, but happened in July of 2006 when the national average hit $4.12 a gallon.

Now, I also realize that some people don’t have a clue as to the difference between a “national average” and what their particular region (or neighborhood) pays for fuel. Some states have higher fuel taxes than others, so that $3.87 national average may actually translate to $4.50 a gallon in some places. Or it might actually be lower, like around $3.30. It all depends on where you are.

But the FACTS are simple: in October of 2008, the banks crashed. Over the next six weeks, there absolutely was no money for investors/speculators to bet on the price of fuel. In other words, we got to see what our fuel prices would ACTUALLY look like if rampant speculation was kept out of the fuel markets.

So sure, the price of fuel almost “doubled” since Obama took office. A sign that the economy has been getting stronger, thereby allowing speculators to pump the price of fuel up in order to take profits based on the market casino.

Deej is correct about one thing: both parties pull the “If it’s successful, I own it” bullshit.

There’s only one candidate who understands that he can’t claim credit for job creation:

Presidential candidate Gary Johnson took a slightly unorthodox approach regarding job creation on Thursday. “I didn’t create a single job,” said the former Governor of New Mexico.

“Don’t get me wrong,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are proud of this distinction. We had a 11.6 percent job growth that occurred during our two terms in office. But the headlines that accompanied that report – referring to governors, including me, as ‘job creators’ – were just wrong.”

“The fact is, I can unequivocally say that I did not create a single job while I was governor,” Johnson added. Instead, “we kept government in check, the budget balanced, and the path to growth clear of unnecessary regulatory obstacles.”

    (…)

“My priority was to get government out of the way, keep it out of the way, and allow hard-working New Mexicans, entrepreneurs and businesses to fulfill their potential,” he said. “That’s how government can encourage job growth, and that’s what government needs to do today.”

How? You do realize that it takes several years for economic policies to have such an effect. The economy started tanking in 2005, and had been heading in that direction since around 1998, thanks to two major changes in the laws.

The bottom line is that cause and effect shows exactly when, where, how, and who. None of this magically happened overnight, and it certainly didn’t begin with Obama.
