Uncanny Valley Open Thread

Our pardons if you’ve seen this before, but this just freaked us the fuck out:

Why is this so damn freaky, you say?

Because “Emily” is a CGI animation, not an actual human being.

Tiny hints when you re-watch it, but still. Had we only seen that clip in passing, we’d have been thinking “nice girl, wonder who she is?”

Open thread.

The absolute best CGI I’ve ever seen. And this comes from someone who generally blows chunks when he sees CGI manglings of the USS Enterprise on YouBoob.

    Outstanding work.

not a bad face, but when you see her real face the cgi one looks kinda flat.

Its pretty low res, in higher resolution you might be able to tell… I’ll see if they have a booth at SIGGRAPH week after next

Oh, and marker-less facial mocap where the software has to analyze it? (Which takes time, believe me) There’s about four companies you can buy the software to do that off the shelf. Why do they still used markered facial mocap? Simple- real-time feedback instead of waiting for the software to analyze it. You can set it up to feed your character rig (usually done in Motionbuilder) and see the character’s performance as the actor is doing it, instead of discovering that the actor did something funny with their upper lip a week later….

And now, for something off topic. (Hey it IS an open thread!)

The USMC is going back to the M-1911 .45.

As to the animation? We are very close to the day when closed circuit video will no longer be accepted as evidence. Why? Because it can be or soon will be faked.

Well,, when the machines explain to us how screwed we are, it can give us the condescending face to go with the tone.

Obama is giving a rousing speech, complete with teleprompters before an animated crowd.
SUPER: “How many fundraisers has President Obama attended during his reelection bid?”
    SUPER: “Over 160.”
A huge room at the center of which is a oblong table of polished wood surrounded by chairs of the same quality. The room is entirely empty.
SUPER: “How many meetings has President Obama had with his Jobs Council within the last six months?”
    SUPER: “Zero.”
SUPER: “Which is the more important task?”

Wearing his white shirt and its rolled up sleeves, a smiling Obama eats a hamburger with some local people.
    SUPER: “Campaigning?”
A local business that has been boarded up with a sign that says “For Rent.”
Next to it is another business that has a sign posted over its door which reads, ‘Going out of Business Sale.”
    SUPER: “Job Creation?”
SUPER: “You get to decide in November.”

Democrats Backpedal as China Readies $15.1 Billion Canadian Oil Deal
by Wynton Hall 28 Jul 2012

When President Barack Obama blocked the Keystone Pipeline, Republicans said the move would encourage Canada to pursue oil deals with China instead of the United States and cede a massive chunk of North American oil assets to the communist nation.

Now, with China’s state-run oil company CNOOC poised to cut a $15.1 billion deal–the largest ever foreign acquisition for a Chinese company–with Canadian oil company Nexen, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are in full backpedal mode.

    Cannon Fodder says:

DJ seems to forget that, even though, Ear Leader can’t actually DO any of those things, he will damn sure take credit if any of them actually do happen.

    Also, this:

    1) Democrat in office, economy tanks, energy prices skyrocket, unemployment soars, food stamp recipients break new records — “the president can’t really do anything, he’s not to blame, it’s not like the position matters at all so you’re all being silly.”

    2) Republican in office, economy recovers after devastating attack, unemployment hovering between 4-5%, referred to as “the worst economy since Hoover”, followed by Democrat takeover of Congress, then the White House with predictable and horrifying results — “IT’S ALL BUSH’S FAAAAAAAAAAULT!”

Conclusion: Anything bad that happens under a Republican president is his fault, nothing good that happens under him has anything to do with him if it’s mentioned at all.

Anything bad that happens under a Democrat Fascist president is somebody else’s fault (typically the last Republican president no matter how long ago it was that he was in office), anything even remotely good that happens (or just something that isn’t out-and-out horrible) is a resounding, fantastic, precedent-breaking feat of genius, gutsy calls and statesmanship attributed to and ONLY to the Democrat Fascist president in charge.

Do I have that just about right, Deej?

But the FACTS are simple: in October of 2008, the Democrats made the banks crashed. Over the next six weeks, there absolutely was no money for George Soros and other Democrat investors/speculators to bet on the price of fuel. In other words, we got to see what our fuel prices would ACTUALLY look like if Marxists was kept out of the fuel markets.

Deej is correct about one thing: both parties pull the “If it’s successful, I own it” bullshit.

There’s only one candidate who understands that he can’t claim credit for job creation:

Presidential candidate Gary Johnson took a slightly unorthodox approach regarding job creation on Thursday. “I didn’t create a single job,” said the former Governor of New Mexico.

“Don’t get me wrong,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are proud of this distinction. We had a 11.6 percent job growth that occurred during our two terms in office. But the headlines that accompanied that report – referring to governors, including me, as ‘job creators’ – were just wrong.”

“The fact is, I can unequivocally say that I did not create a single job while I was governor,” Johnson added. Instead, “we kept government in check, the budget balanced, and the path to growth clear of unnecessary regulatory obstacles.”

“My priority was to get government out of the way, keep it out of the way, and allow hard-working New Mexicans, entrepreneurs and businesses to fulfill their potential,” he said. “That’s how government can encourage job growth, and that’s what government needs to do today.”

You never get tired of the George Soros routine, do you?

Then why did Soros took his hedge fund private.

The economy started tanking in 2005

When Chucky Schumcky Schumer caused a panic on Indy Bank.

Marxists would have nationalized the fuel, NOT speculate on it.

Saw this today. I really hope Obama keeps running his mouth about how HE SAVED THE US AUTO INDUSTRY.

For the record he didn’t save a fucking thing except the UAW so they will continue to pump Union dues into Demo-shit libtard fuckwit political campaigns.

Funny thing with sheep is that you can shear them every year but you can only skin them once.

Expect a liberal fuckwit to understand this concept as realistically as you can expect a two year old to effectively wipe their own ass.

The only way to fix the US auto industry is a structured bankruptcy which would allow them to reorganize how they operate and renegotiate their contractual obligations including employee compensation.
