Day of Silence

No, we’re not much for staying silent, particularly not when the case in point is a convicted terrorist thug who would like nothing more than for everybody to stay silent.

But “being silent” isn’t really the point of the Day of Silence, it’s “being silent EXCEPT for pointing out how Brett Kimberlin likes to try to silence people.”

That we can do, and we’re more than happy to.

This is about not shutting up and finding out what you can do to stop the attacks upon free speech, and nobody explains it better than Michelle, so go ye forth and read. Also go check out Stacy McCain, still in an undisclosed location due to threats against him family, who has a lot more to say.

UPDATE: And don’t miss out Ace, who makes several very important points, chief among which is that letters alone, while welcome and important, aren’t going to stop a convicted serial terrorist.

Then contact your Congress Critters and let them know that it’s time for our representatives to actually REPRESENT us.

Be polite, though. Even though the story is spreading (painfully slowly), it’s quite possible that your Congress Critter hasn’t heard about this yet.

    Could be true, but then their refusal to react is on THEIR conscience.

    And based on what I hear about the mounting firestorm (ABC and CNN are now on it and a LOT of Congresscritters are said to be ready for a mass announcement on Monday), your critter might not want to be the last to jump on this particular wagon.

    What is up with this? Just read this post on Ace of Spades: he put it up in the wee hours of Friday night. Given the hour, he might have been staring into his scotch, but still: I don’t even know what this “Jimmah” is supposed to have done.

    I apologize to most commenters.

    Jimmah, however, has decided to set blog policy for me, and several others have decided to challenge me on the point as well.

    I will have to end commenting until I can figure out how to ban them.

    This is precisely how I wanted to spend my Friday night.

    I know that everyone else — everyone else — was of course pleasant and wonderful as usual.

    But there are some who just enjoy sabotage and fragging.

    I don’t know how to fix it at the moment, so I’m going to possibly simply destroy the blog by letting it go dark.

    But I don’t know what else to do.

    You expect to be knifed in the front by your enemies. It’s too much to be knifed in the back as well.

    Again, I realize most people understand without being told.

    My mistake here is thinking some people will understand if told — no, the sort of person that doesn’t know until told also won’t know after he’s told.

    Thanks for everyone who understands without being told.

    For the rest, registration is coming, possibly Monday. I do not have the time or patience regarding continuing arguments about Standard Blog Policy — standard blog policy on any blog, at any time, let alone now, when I’m under siege — and I simply will not be entertaining any more arguments about it.

    You can be stubborn about a lot of things, but when you get stubborn over another man’s right to make his livelhood as he believes right, and to protect himself and his family as best he knows how, you’ve gotten stubborn about the wrong thing, and the last thing.

    And also, you’re a bad person with a deep psychological problem, and no, merely being “conservative” does not make up for your selfishness and arrogance. You might want to consider character-building exercises over reading about politics. Before one’s a good conservative, one ought to strive to first be a good human being.

    Without the latter, the former isn’t worth shit.

    Ace had requested nobody issue death threats to Kimberlin or other provocative posting. Naturally, because the site has a bunch of sockpuppets, this was like throwing gasoline on a fire. Jimmah & others spent most of the night posting one over-the-top death threat after another until finally Ace said fuck it and locked the comments.

    Idiots, agents provocateurs, or both? Well, I hope he figures out the banning technique that can block these fools. Like he said today, they’re helping the other side.

    But I am sorry, very sorry, that he’s going to take down his H.L. Mencken banner on his home page that talks about slitting throats. I always got a laugh out of that.
