Speaking of Classy

Obama is too busy attending fundraisers to issue any type of proclamation honoring the 68th anniversary of the Normandy Landings. Three years in a row now.

Is any body really surprised?

Now why oh why would Obumfuck mention D-Day? I mean it was only the day America and her allies broke through the walls of fortress Europe. :em04:

And it happened sooo long ago, no-one remembers that stuff. If no-one remembers then Obumfuck can’t take the credit. :em05:

It has become a tradition in my house to watch Band of Brothers every year at this time.
We start with Currahee on June 5th and tonight we will watch Day of Days, the episode of the D-Day invasion, and watch one episode a day until the end.
It’s a small gesture of gratitude to the men to whom we owe so much.

One of the things that made me love this movie so much is when I watched the special features and saw the respect and admiration the actors have for the men they portrayed.

The fact that the president is spending his time with his celebrity friends, holding 150 fundraisers to save his job instead of working to fix our stagnant economy and unemployment shows just how out of touch he is with America’s problems

Well, he DID Tweet a D-Day mention. So did Romney.

He also didn’t mention that today was …

The day Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman were divorced.
That in 1985 In Birmingham, Alabama, attended a fundraiser for Senator Denton.
That in 1988 President Reagan addressed the World Gas Council.

In 1862 Union forces captured Memphis.

In 1934 President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Securities Exchange Act, which established the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

In 1636 Puritan American colonist Roger Williams, banished from Massachusetts Bay Colony, founded Providence, Rhode Island, a colony with complete religious freedom.

In 1918 The first large-scale battle fought by American soldiers in World War I began, in Belleau Wood, northwest of Paris.

In 1967 President Gamal Abdel Nasser closed the Suez Canal, alleging that U.S. and British forces were aiding Israel.

1755, Nathan Hale, American patriot, Revolutionary War military officer was born

In 1799 Patrick Henry, American revolutionary died.

In 1968 Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated after claiming victory in California’s Democratic presidential primary.

In 1976 J. Paul Getty, American industrialist and founder of the Getty Oil Company died.

in 2006 Billy Preston, American soul musician died.

A LOT of things happened on this day.

Sort of. The first attacks by Marines into Belleau Wood began on June 6th, but the battle had been going since June 1st when Marines executed a forced march and plugged the hole in the French lines. Over the next 4 days they repelled German attacks and stopped their advance on Paris cold. The counter attacks to clear the Germans from the woods began June 6th, not the actual battle.

I’ll give you credit though for at least having one item in your list that came close to the momentous import of Normandy.

Hey Deej, FUCK YOU!! I’m a Vet myself, I’ve risked my ass and paid my dues near the Korean DMZ as well as in two Middle East tours. B. Hussein Øbama not only spat on all of the D-Day Vets, living and dead with his ignoring them, he has also been the first US President in 116 years to NOT attend the annual Army-Navy Football game as well as the first US President to NOT attend a formal religious ceremony observing Christmas. He and his lackeys are instead attending lavish fundraisers, B. Hussein Øbama himself being ferried in luxury aboard Air Force One at the cost of over $179,000 per hour at last count, and he and his lackeys are also kissing up to the far left, namely the homo lobby!

in all fairness, he did commemorate Pearl Harbor

the money quote from his statement is this:

we resolve to always take care of our troops, veterans and military families as well as they’ve taken care of us,”

    one more broken promise.

Since liberals are big believers in moral equivalence the day the forces of freedom began the final assault to crush the fascists is nothing to celebrate. In fact, to them it’s a day of mourning for the loss of their ideological brethren.

Again, I wasn’t assigning importance to any of them. Just that there are other things that happened on this day in history that nobody mentions. None of them overshadow D-Day.

Again, reading shit into something that isn’t there.

At NO time in my statement above did I commend Obama, or give him an attaboy for his less-that-stellar response. In fact, I was being a bit sarcastic by pointing that he apparently went out of his way to make mention of a historic day like this in a hundred and forty characters or less.

Perhaps you didn’t read my comment I made in another thread today, so I will repost the pertinent part here:

Besides, this is one of the reasons that I don’t like Twitter. It is the only place I know of that you can show how stupid you are in 140 characters or less.

No. You tried to diminish the significance of The Day of Days.
Some of the items on your list are unimportant and irrelevant trivia. Those items that are historically significant were important in their time. D-Day is one of the most important dates in the history of our time.
The memory of the courage and tenacity of the men who fought on that day is still inspirational in our ongoing struggle against tyranny, which is why it’s important to liberals that it should be made to seem less important than it is.

If you are so good at reading my mind, then what am I thinking now?

    Let me clarify for you.

Obama didn’t ignore D-Day — but he may as well have with his 140-character-or-less response to it. I listed those other events as a sarcastic tone for MY displeasure at his lack of attention and the method he chose. So I came up with several other things that happened on that day that he could have tweeted in 140 characters or less.

But YOU wanted to read something into it that wasn’t there.

Tweeting is a piss poor way to commemorate anything, let alone get a point across. I realize that it is the “hip” way of doing things by kids, but c’mon now. Some things you just don’t phone in.

Of course it is. You won’t get an argument out of me on that. A good soundbite won’t even fit in a tweet.

I realize that it is the “hip” way of doing things by kids, but c’mon now.

It’s not just a case of being “hip”. Tweeting is actually tailor made for today’s ridiculously short attention span crowd. The one hundred and forty character limit is necessary because many people can’t be bothered to stay focused beyond character number one hundred and forty one. It’s sad just how many people have the attention span of a moth.
