An AWESOME video to greet me this morning. I love the ‘eyes right’ command the contingent gave the young lad. You know that some of those soldiers got a little misty!!

LC Draco recently posted..2011 Medics of the Year

I agree, Mr. Draco – an excellent video first thing – considerably more pleasant than reading about the latest from one of the pig-ins.

Oh, I deliberately avoided trying to place the video as I couldn’t find any details on it, but since Subotai asked in his post, I can say as much as this:

Based on the terrain, weather, preponderance of bicycles and even the dress codes of the bystanders, it would have to be one of the many commemorative European events taking place quite often to show gratitude for the liberation from the Nazis. My initial gut instinct thought it to be the annual Arnhem Airborne March but, knowing how many of these events exist, it could be anywhere between Caen and the Rhine.

What struck me as the real significance of all of this, though, is that what we have here is a grandchild or even a great-grandchild of the generation liberated, dressed up in uniform and standing out there for hours waiting to show his respect to the descendants of the troops who liberated his ancestors.

That, and the fact that the commander of the contingent returned the honor by giving the wonderful little tyke an “eyes RIGHT!” just made the Imperial Palace grow real bloody dusty.

Honors all around, I’d say, and I have to compliment the young man on a rather snappy salute.
