Time To Rein In AARP

Being the TV addict I am, I can’t help but notice the AARP is pushing a new round of ads demanding ‘status quo’ for medicare and medicaid programs. Obviously they’re threatening the Super Committee with the votes of seniors. Obama stole half a trillion of medicare funding for general Obamacare programs and now the Super Committee is charged with budgeting for this loss without any changes to the current system. Obama consistently sides with AARP on this issue, so his real stance is quite different from his actions. It’s just another deceit out of this administration. The real issue here is what I see as a rapidly increasing problem with the AARP trying to increase it’s bottom line to the detriment of the folks they purport to represent. The AARP makes about 3 times the revenue from royalty payments by third party insurance companies that sell policies using their name, as from membership dues. In turn the AARP uses this massive windfall to steer the senior vote in a direction beneficial to them, not their members. Over the decades as AARP’s influence grew, they developed a voting bloc similar to a labor union, threatening the country with the votes of the 30-odd million seniors. They are responsible in a large part for the creation of the supposed ‘Third Rail’ of politics, such that social security, medicare and medicaid became untouchable, the political leper colony of government policies.

I am more than sick to fucking death hearing this over the last few decades. We must pander to the senior votes, we must not change anything, anywhere or anytime with the word Social Security in it, because the left will use it against us. While creating this seemingly monolithic voting bloc of the “I don’t give a fuck as long as my check is in the mail and not a penny less” crowd. I for one refuse to believe conventional wisdom that our retiree community is really all that much of a single-issue bunch. I believe that they’ve been scared shitless by the heartless guile of the left. The GOP has tried all along to attempt to get this ponzi-scheme under control with some sort of reform, while the left just jacks grandma into believing those eeevil people are going to take away your check.

Shame on us for letting this bullshit become institutionalized, shame on those turning citizens into Pavlovian dogs that scream at any and all discussion about reforms, and shame on some of the retirees for believing they were going to get out of any system a LOT more than they paid into it. Yes many, many, many have received absolutely that, but like all ponzi-schemes, it only continues when new players, in increasing numbers enter the game. That’s where common sense should make folks believe that the program is absofuckinglutely unsustainable. Not so here. We’ve let this all succumb to demagoguery in the name of politics that’s pushing it over the cliff. I just want to put a round through my awesome HD TV when I see that more of the same is coming in the ’12 race.

Leading the charge into insolvency is the cocksnarfs at the AARP, blatantly lying about their interests. If they really decided to be honest with their members, they would use their influence to bring truth into the discussion and legitimately work for reforms to these programs, instead of passing yet another horrific burden on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren maintaining status quo. Interestingly enough (h/t-Misha), the AARP can be directly compared to a union. They (AARP) forces their members into believing that they’re the only outfit looking out for them. Once they’ve joined the money is diverted to whatever the bosses want to do with it, like maxxing out donations to deadocrats and backing causes that the membership at large would never agree to. Seniors that really see through this bullshit should immediately cancel their membership. Come on folks, do you really, really need that discount at restaurants, as many already offer their own?

Stay at it you lying bastards, some day those checks will flat.stop.the.end and we’ll be right here handing all the folks you’ve lied to, along with your fellow travelers on the left that have supported those lies, the rope to hang your asses. No worries, you’ll have lots of company up there, LOTS.

These fucks need to brought to rein, before it’s too late and that time grows short.

[Update: A HUGE tip o’ the hat to franklaughter for posting this link in his comment: House GOP Exposes AARP, a very well written piece on this very topic.]

I’ve given a great deal of thought to how to fix these programs in such a manner that people who have been paying into the system their whole lives don’t get shafted, but these tyrannical programs come to an ultimate end.

I’m still thinking.

There’s no easy answer on this one, but one thing is certain… I’m not looking to Obama and the “deadocrats” for that solution. The “New Deal” is old hat. It’s got to go.

I’m getting close to the retirement age window (not that I’ll be able to retire, thank you very much you sleazy poly-ticks), and constantly getting pinged by the AARP to join. When Hell freezes over, you jerks.

When they started pushing Obamacare, their true colors came crashing to the forefront – the ‘Pubs need to hammer this home, that the Donks are gonna be/are their worst nightmare, and are the ones that are responsible for the mess we’re in now and the train wreck that is in their near future. IF they don’t die from the new & improved Obamacare health rules, that is…

Xealot, if’n ya come up with something good please do let us know, okay? Actually, let the current crop (sans Mittens Romneycare) of Republican runners know so they can get on board early. Just planning ahead, y’know? :em03:

Earlier this year BigGovernment and Common Sense Junction ran a series of articles exposing AARP and the shenanigans used to deceive — and thereby sell insurance to — drive-by America. AARP reaps hundreds of millions in profits each year through a for-profit insurance brokerage and service business and devotes MOST of those profits to campaign coffers of far leftwing politicians. In short, AARP, George Soros and the unions support the same thugs.

Here are a couple of links that in turn provide more links for anybody interested in the story behind the story.

BTW: I have a dog in this fight. I’m 78 years old.

Why did AARP support ObamaCare? The .pdf file is a report from Congress that shows when ObamaCare is implemented, AARP stands to gain $1 billion in new revenue over the next 10 years.

Here’s an alternative to AARP:

AMAC

Jackboot, I hate to be a grammar bitch, but “reign” refers to the rule of a king or queen. The word you’re looking for in the title is “rein”, as in to curb or control.

AARP was nothing but useless when my mom was a member.

I think I’m more sure to see WW3 during my lifetime, than I am going to receive a Social Security check.

Sure, and what do they care that the product they’re supporting is inferior; they still get their bigger slice of the pie.

AARP has always been a socialist organization, if you define socialism as supporting welfare programs such as Social Security and Medicare (which are erroneously defined as “entitlement” programs). AARP became another kind of beast when it betrayed its members and made a Faustian bargain with United Health Care, allowing it to become the official AARP provider of Medicare Part D.

And for any seniors whining about Obama’s “socialist” programs – please shut up or turn in your government-paid-for Rascal scooter. Or rather, let’s sit down and do some math – we will calculate how much you’ve paid into Social Security and Medicare throughout your life (with a reasonable amount of compounded interest), and when that total amount is matched by the amount of benefits you receive, we’ll cut you off. Then you can live off your savings and pension … if you have any.

Actually, let’s NOT do that. Because having you get sick and die because you cannot afford decent food, treatment or medicine is not the American way. But let’s all quit using the term “entitlement” (and we can point the finger at FDR for coining the mendacious euphemism) and call it what it is – welfare.

I’m sick of hearing some seniors who define themselves as conservative who still try and rationalize that they are entitled to Social Security and Medicare because they’ve paid into the programs. But, however one defines it, FICA are TAXES, and we all pay these and other taxes, including state and federal income tax, sales taxes, property taxes, etc. Just because you turn 65 doesn’t magically transform you into someone deserving more attention and greater largess from the federal government.

Instead of screaming about how health care reform is going to take away “your” Medicare, perhaps you might want to consider that if health care isn’t reformed for EVERYONE, the rationing that currently exists for the rest of the population (and it DOES exist, just ask anyone under 65 about exploding insurance costs and declining benefits), may eventually creep up the ladder and affect you.

When I started approaching the AARP recruitment age I got my first pitch from them in the mail, ten minuets after I read about how much they contributed to the various Brady campaigns.

That one hit the fireplace unopened as have all since! :em07:

I see I’ve awakened one of the trolls. Oh goody 🙂

And especially since Libya is now going the Sharia Law route I dont think you’d want to call that a victory.

As for Bin Laden, Obama dithered for 18 hours and was peevish because someone had to get him off the golf course. Word is it was Panetta who issued the execute order, not President Zero. Now, compare Obama’s 18 hour dithering with GW Bush’s few minutes reading a book to some kids on 9-11 and not wanting to immediately cause alarm.

Sorry but you lose on both accounts.

I never mentioned Bin Laden, and you might want to share your Sharia hypotheticals with the Klinghoffer family and the families of the passengers and crew of Pan Am 103. I doubt they will share your deep concerns for the future of Libya without Gaddafi.

This president is a bigger hawk than Reagan

Someone’s forgotten Operation El Dorado Canyon. Conducted with congressional approval unlike jugears and his Libyan escapade.

Ironically, the Left has more issues with Obama’s war policy – hasn’t closed Guantanamo, orders assassinations in violation of Executive Order 11905, gives the CIA carte blanche to quadruple drone attacks in Pakistan, etc.

No surprise since jugears campaigned on ending all of the above and more.

Theres no hypothetical about it. Their acting PM announced it.

While I sympathize .w. the family of Leon Klinghoffer, I have sympathy as well for those who will die in the future as a result of yet another Islamic country falling by the wayside under Obama’s watch.

Fact.

but witnesses report that the blue ice had melted by the time officials arrived leaving only a smelly brown residue.

How could they tell that from the campers?

Libya should have been nuked the day after Lockerbie, and we probably would have had less trouble in the ME.

It has been obvious to me for a long time that AARP is only interested in putting more money in their wallets and to hell with the old people they are supposed to be watching out for.I joined AMAC about a year ago with pretty much the same benefits. But I don’t need to worry about my dues going to some left wing flunky. Speaking of being old not for sissies is that something like–better being over the hill instead of under it.? :em05:

Oh go get stuffed, Mandrake. When Reagan tried to take out Momo there was no end of liberal gnashing of teeth and rending of clothes and yet, here you are, when somebody else managed to take out Momo thanks to the help of a liberal president, and suddenly it’s a magnificent victory for all of mankind.

The ghost of Klinghoffer ought to visit you and give you a right royal kicking of your nethers, you pathetic hypocrite.
