Chutzpah Alert

If it wasn’t so sad, it would be hilariously funny. OK, we take it back. It’s hilariously fucking funny no matter how you put it.

The liberals are bent out of shape because Glenn Beck has accurately quoted Frances Fox Piven (yes, THAT Piven, of Cloward-Piven infamy), the well-known radical leftist known for, apart from her and Cloward’s plan to deliberately destroy society to bring about La Revolucion, being a violent, howling moonbat constantly calling for The People to rise in violence against the government, Cheney, Big Oil or the Evil Pharmaceutical companies who keep the prices up on her Thorazine.

Somebody calling themselves, in a fit of irony so thick you can use it as ballistic armor, the Center for Constitutional Rights, have written a nasty-gram to FOX insisting that they put a gag order on Glenn Beck’s “evil” habit of quoting people accurately because it, wait for it, has led to “death threats” against poor, violent, radical, violence-inciting Frances.

The “Center for Constitutional Rights” calling for a TV station to muzzle themselves… The mind boggles. Apparently the scholastically impaired suckweasels at said center didn’t even make it all the way through the First Amendment before they went forth on their holy crusade against telling the truth about liberals.

Oh, and that’s just the beginning of Teh Stupid™ in this one.

We mean, where to begin? Calling quoting people accurately “inciting to violence” against an individual who has spent her entire professional life actually inciting to violence…

Of course, this is not about making sense. It’s about keeping Teh Narrative™ alive, which clearly states that only conservatives incite to violence, even when they don’t, and that the only solution, The New Civility™ as it’s called, is to tell all conservatives to shut up and quit inconveniencing the liberal propaganda mills with their annoying insistence on telling the truth.

You can take your “new civility” and shove it so far up your arses that it sees daylight, and you can kindly take any and all so-called “thoughtful and pragmatic conservatives” ball-less and stupid enough to play along with your obvious spiel and shove them up there as well, because we sure as Hades don’t have any use for them.

Thatisall.

Here’s a juicy bit of snark from David Kahane on National Review Online.

But no — you knuckle-dragging troglodytes resist us at every turn, and have the temerity to actually fight back when we assault you. We pinch and poke and prod and provoke, and when you’ve finally reached the end of your ropes and fight back, we scream bloody murder at your lack of civility. Heads we win, tails you lose!

Go read all of it, it will have you grinning.

You want to talk about inciting violence, consider the fruit Beck’s scapegoating of Piven is bearing:

Glenn Beck Targets Frances Fox Piven

    From the article:

“On the afternoon of January 6, Frances Fox Piven, a distinguished professor, legendary activist, writer and longtime contributor to this magazine, received an e-mail from an unknown correspondent. There was no text, just a subject line that read: DIE YOU CUNT. It was not the first piece of hateful e-mail Piven had gotten, nor would it be the last. One writer told her to “go back to Canada you dumb bitch”; another ended with this wish: “may cancer find you soon.”

“”Somebody tell Frances I have 5000 roundas [sic] ready and I’ll give My life to take Our freedom back,”

    “ONE SHOT…ONE KILL!”

“The only redistribution I am interested in is that of a precious metal…. LEAD,”

I defy you to find anything that Piven has ever written which is as strident a call to arms as any of the above. Fact is, there’s not really much to know about Frances Fox Piven. She wrote an article in 1966 called “The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty” advocating increased welfare enrolment to force policy change within the Democratic party of the time (this is the so-called ‘Cloward/Piven strategy you may have heard about). Then she co-founded Human SERVE (Service Employees Registration and Voter Education), an organization with the goal of increasing voter registration by linking voter registration offerings with the use of social services or state Departments of Motor Vehicles. Then she served as the President of the American Sociological Association between 2006-2007. In the meantime, she wrote a few books that nobody ever read and is now retired.

That’s it. She’s a nobody. And she would have likely died a nobody had Glen Beck not seen in her academic past the potential to incite a good ol’ fashioned moral panic. But this is Beck’s MO. He takes people who don’t really matter, like Cloward and Piven, like Van Jones, like the guys at the TIDES foundation, people that no-one has ever heard of and that no-one would give a shit about otherwise, and then, using the most inflammatory language it’s possible to get away with on a cable news network, he depicts them as cunning svengalis manipulating society from within secret societies and communist cabals. And then simple-minded motherfuckers like Mr. “5000 roundas” above start spouting off about how much they want to kill her.

This is a problem, because there’s something you need to know about Glen Beck. This might shock you. I hope you’re sitting. Are you? Okay. Here goes:

Glen Beck is completely fucking mental. Not in a Howard Beale “I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore!” kinda way, but in a General Jack D. Ripper “International communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.” kinda way. Don’t believe me? Watch this video and then tell me he’s not as mad as a shithouse rat. Go on. I dare you.

Now, if someone as insane as that is given free rein to say whatever they want on national television, sooner or later they’re going to inspire someone equally paranoid to take militant action on their behalf. This is more or less a mathematical certainty, and in Beck’s case, the equation has already fully played out at least once before. People forget that Beck does, after all, have prior form as a terrorist instigator. Remember Byron Williams? From the Nation article:

His destination was the Tides Foundation, which had been mentioned at that point in at least twenty-nine episodes of the Glenn Beck show, sometimes along with Piven. His goal, as he later told police, was to kill “people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU” in order to “start a revolution.” Williams’s mother said that he had been watching TV news and was upset at “the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing-agenda items.” Or, as Williams himself put it, “I would have never started watching Fox News if it wasn’t for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind.” California Highway Patrol officers pulled Williams over for driving erratically and, after a firefight, subdued and arrested him before he could blow anyone else’s mind away.

So, why are people upset that Beck is targeting Piven yet again? Because he’s putting her, her family, her friends, and her associates in danger. All because he’s convinced himself that this barely consequential academic, who hasn’t been relevant for nearly fifty years, is single handedly organising a stealth soviet takedown of the U.S. from behind her writing desk. The real question is: Why don’t you people have a problem with this?

You cannot win a defensive war. It is long past time to do more than respond…turn up the heat, keep it there and to hell with civility. It doesn’t exist in the liberal mind. You resist you’re either intolerant ,racist, bigoted or hateful…
Get your beatings worth……it works on the street……you go after them, stay after them, all the while you choosing when and where to attack. Do not let your enemy lead you on, you close and engage. You are interested in victory, not image.
In my personal life my views are known, I don’t discuss it much, and never when I sense an attack or manipulation. I choose my fights here at home, my public deportment above board, and tend to win them, usually in print, appealing to the human spirt, liberty and freedom…vindicated by my behaviors and lifestyle.
The on thing I DO NOT do is allow these cretins to determine my behaviors…ever! None of them have ever pushed it to the point of violence, not yet anyway…and those in my life here know full well I will respond in kind..
And I do not shoot to wound…..

From The Nation: (I did the dirty work so you won’t have to)

Third, protesters need targets, preferably local and accessible ones capable of making some kind of response to angry demands. This is, I think, the most difficult of the strategy problems that have to be resolved if a movement of the unemployed is to arise. Protests among the unemployed will inevitably be local, just because that’s where people are and where they construct solidarities. But local and state governments are strapped for funds and are laying off workers. The initiatives that would be responsive to the needs of the unemployed will require federal action. Local protests have to accumulate and spread—and become more disruptive—to create serious pressures on national politicians. An effective movement of the unemployed will have to look something like the strikes and riots that have spread across Greece in response to the austerity measures forced on the Greek government by the European Union, or like the student protests that recently spread with lightning speed across England in response to the prospect of greatly increased school fees.

Funny, I didn’t hear any calls from conservatives for riots.

First of all, you’re operating on the assumption that your assessment of Beck is correct. It is not. But I’ll humor you.

The left in this country has been using Alinsky’s rules as their major playbook for decades. Piven’s work is a major part of their plans.

So we have people on the left using violent political tactics. You seem to be upset that we’re suddenly willing to play by -your- rules, instead of playing nice. Bluntly put, you should have thought of that a long time ago. Did you honestly expect that the tactics of lyin, cheatin, and stealin while expecting the right to play it straight was going to last forever? You want civility on our side of the fence, clean up your own shit, we’re tired of humoring you miserably, sociopathic, ignorant, socialist, over-educated-and-no-common-sense parasitic assholes. LC purple raider met your defiance. Thanks. Come again. Besides, there’s a whole bloody lot of difference between a tenured, presumably respected (in some circles) person directly calling for the people to start murderous riots with a big, bloody bullhorn (as in known, tenured, respected, huge reach) and some anonymous email blowhard sending a poorly spelled nasty-gram.

You can keep trying to portray her as an old, batty lady that nobody listens to anymore as much as you like, a “nobody” who hasn’t said anything offensive since the 60s (in which case she must be quite the time traveler seeing as how she, back then, apparently was calling for The Poor and Oppressed to emulate the current insanity in Greece and Ireland and somehow was able to make sure that the message didn’t get broadcast until now), but nobody’s buying.

    Sorry, mate, no sale.

And, as Roguetek says, the radical left has been doing exactly what they claim Beck is doing for decades, so I’m having a really buggeringly hard time feeling sorry for them now that they got their feathers ruffled because their long-suffering victims finally had enough of their bullshit.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. Or, as I was taught, “don’t start a fight unless you’re sure you can finish it and don’t come crying to me if you get your arse kicked.”

Regarding the case of G. Beck, alleged corrupter of silly minds:

Not having studied the art in question, I prefer to avoid decisive pronouncements. Beck fails to explain his reference to Mussolini–but, back in the ’30s, when Communism was cool, Il Duce also had admirers here, reportedly including FDR himself. As for the infamous Rivera mural, I learned about it decades ago. Beck’s error is attributing its design to Rocky Feller, when it’s clear Rivera despised capitalists.
