He probably survived the trauma thanks to some of the R&D efforts contractors and military working towards better care for wounded soldiers created and is now widespread in trauma units across the land.

Just pocketed the money, rolled the dice and when and if the IRS leeches caught it said, “ooops, sorry. My bad”. And at the least had me a cool 30 or 40 K to play with interest free.
I didn’t, I live my life based on honor, my situation precluded my exempting this income and I did the right thing about it…do you? Anyone here not cheating on their IRS forms a bit…suuuuureeeeeee. your not..
Bought a house in 2006, Market tanked and I lost north of 50 grand on equity alone, house is still underwater and getting worse.
But I’m still paying that mortgage every month, I’m still in the sand pit working like a dog to do it..see I signed a contract with GMAC when I bought that house. I owe the money I borrowed, I will meet my obligations.
Would that half the people running around screaming about “contractors” have the integrity to do the same and not walk away from their McMansion homes because things aren’t turning out in their favor.

Talk about a thread going off the rails, what was it that started all of this? Oh..yeah me.
I’ll never see much eye to eye with our ITW but I will ‘fight” his statements, and yeah would that he “CSITMF” I’d probably cuss him just as hard and just as ‘loud’ as I do here.
I’ll leave it to the Rotties to decide if my original words carried some overt threat, perhaps they can be perceived as did, I didn’t really intend them to, I didn’t really mean to associate the DV saga in it’s entirety with what I was saying, so chalk that correlation of terms up to bad word choices.
Now having said that; Here is my parting shots on this subject. I’ll not answer the ITW further on it, he has his views, I have mine and I’ll leave it that.
The basic premise of the argument is that we need to cut defense and in particular the people like me AKA ‘defense contractors”
I disagree heatedly with that argument on the following facts.
1. The defense budget as a percentage of the GDP really hasn’t increased alarmingly over the decades, yes there is a ton of money spent, and I will admit there is some fat in some of the contracts, but the Majority of the ones over here, on the tip of the spear are rather lean. Liberal Democrats like the ITW would have you believe this’ fat’ problem is the norm and I am telling you it is not. For Example
a. My last task I worked on was a crew of 4 two network two systems, we were working an Enterprise level had no help desk and few lower technicians we covered an entire AOR. When I say AOR I mean from Afghanistan to the horn of Africa, we had some forward deployed personnel obviously to fix hardware and to stream line things somewhat but the majority of the heavy lifting across the entire Enterprise was done by 4 people. Thinks about that for a second. Think of the abilities and the skills it takes to pull something of that magnitude off.
2. People like me, those “dirtbag” contractors bring a very important metric into the argument of “the troops can do the same job cheaper” And simply put, they *could* in some ways, provided you spend 2 years of so with them in schools and training environments. The would know the basics enough maybe to make a go of things. However coma, with the average enlistment of only 4 years does it really become cost effective? No it doesn’t. There is a word here that ensures my job security in this field. It’s called experience. 15 years of it working in a mostly pure military focused IT environment.
3. The military networks while the underpinnings work the exact same as the Internet you are used to, is different, once it leaves the backbone, it becomes somewhat of it’s own entity and there are certain protocols and standards only used by the military. Again, dealing with this sort of thing take years of in depth hands on experience, much of which a new troop will not have by time his enlistment is up.
4. The dreaded “contractors making so much money” really aren’t our base salaries are set in accordance with..go figure DOL rates for the most part, there are times this rule doesn’t apply but for the most part that is the rule of thumb, my base salary is less than what a person of my skill set would have been making during the .com era in the late 90′s. That is fact and I’ll put money where my mouth is on it, I’ll redact much of it but if anyone wants to see my base salary I’ll put up an earning statement. As I mentioned earlier there is no Time and a half pay on these contracts, I’ve only worked one contract that I got time and a half for anything over 40 hours, and that was a state side contract in VA.

Back to my original thoughts here; just a couple more points I’ve said my piece on this.
Contracting numbers always explode under the Democrats, Why? Simple, boiled down to a lowest denominator, because they keep gutting the military, and have absolutely beyond any notion of a doubt put a military draft off the table.
Troop draw downs, peace dividends, burn your draft cards, do more with less on and on goes the mantra, well Guess what?
The liberal democrats helped create that contractor culture with that thinking. When the shit hits the fan as it did on 9-11 SOMEONE has to do the job, the military is too small these days to do it. Enter a contractor. Be it a cook, diesel mechanic, or a Network Engineer…a contractor is doing it because there ain’t enough people in Uniform any longer.
A point here, What many really fail to realize is what life is like in the military, in addition to a “job” they specialize in there are requirements that have to be met, be it small arms qualification, job training, combat operations, or sexual harassment prevention training or going in front of a board for their next promotion the troops in uniform are BUSY folks, and there isn’t enough hours in the day to do it all, nor as I said above, are there enough uniforms to do it all. It’s easy to rail about the military / contractors and it’s budget but until you live that life, you’re simply blowing a bunch of hot air, because today’s military is no picnic as jobs go nor are contracting jobs.
I’ve said it before, I got out under Cllnton when at 10 years I had to make a choice, waste more time in a dead end career created by the troop drawdown, or look for another living..I did, and almost overnight I became a contractor. Easiest thing I ever did, and save a pittance of a retirement at 20 years, was the best move I ever made.
Thousands of Americans have made that same choice. So don’t come whining now about the contractors. YOUR PARTY is at least 50+ % of the reason there is so many of them and if viewed objectively since the Regan years, the figure would probably be well north of 80%
And they’re at it again, by some accounts the Defense budget is going to bear a full HALF of the so called cuts they are yammering about or roughly 450 billion dollars in cuts, tied to the recent bill passed to raise Obamas Visa limit. That means less troops and less contractors, A whole lot less….in fact I wouldn’t be surprised to see the unemployment rate notch up at least another .2 -.3 % over the next year as troops get out and people like me are laid off only to find no state side jobs in this lousy economy.
I’ll make a deal, for the Liberals….450 billion dollars comes out of defense….sure you betcha, just as soon as 450 billion dollars gets cut from foreign aid.
Funny how I never hear a single Liberal Democrat screaming about that little pot of money that gets pissed away, but give an American a Job, as a contractor, a troop a little bit better quality of life and you fuckers are screaming like banshees. “WE CANT AFFORD IT…” Yeah well fuck you too… I cant afford my tax dollars funding the aid going to third world shit holes like the Sudan and Ethiopia….
On the point made about “let someone else do it” They do, Many countries work closely with US Defense contracting companies, buy equipment, hire US workers, and start and maintain huge projects with them, It’s called an FMS Case or Foreign Military Sales. Ever heard of it? Probably not, it doesn’t get much air time that those sorts of projects happen….mostly because it takes the wind out of liberal arguments like “let someone else do / pay for it”.
In the end damn me and the contractors if you must, but chances are somewhere is a kid sitting smoking dope and railing against the “military industrial complex” on a college campus that is only doing so because there is no draft, and countless Americans stand ready and are making the sacrifice needed to support a woefully understaffed military.
But yeah we’re all a bunch of scum bag greedy assholes ….you betcha.

I went back to look for gladiator’s little malaprop , but could not find it. Not that important I suppose, but I wanted to re-read it, just to see if I was perhaps missing something. Anyhow, moving on.
So, Gladiator said some incredibly stupid things. Nobody’s disputing that. You insist on stomping your feet and saying ‘but he really meant it’. And that’s the problem. We both know that he did not mean it. Stupid? oh god yes.
I know. Forgiveness and Compassion are both virtues, but I try not to wave my virtues in other people’s faces.
If Gladiator had said such things to me, I would have replied “I realize you are attempting to be funny, but that was not funny, and I would like an apology.”
Now, if Gladiator decided to be a tool after that… well, that’s a different story. But I’m not going to run around with a size 10 knot in my panties because someone who’s not terribly well spoken to begin with said something rude, and stupid.
You, on the other hand, seem to be perfectly content to use it in your arguments as leverage, which tells me it must not upset you that much.

before you say ‘what untruth’ I’ll answer you. There are two.
1. You state that gladiator really meant those statements literally. This is untrue. You are not the Amazing Kreskin, and you do not have the power to read mens minds. In less charitable circumstances, your statement would be called a lie.
2. You also state that gladiator wrote that he, himself would do/wished to do/had done those things. That is a lie. I would quote the exact text, but I can’t find it.
