OK, Put Us Some Knowledge Here

Because we’ve just about had it.

Every single bloody time we reboot our computer, we get a reminder about an Adobe Reader update. It doesn’t matter how many times we install it, it’s right there the next day.

So tell us, please: Is Adobe Corp really that incompetent that they need to update their software every single day of the year or are they just incompetent enough that their updates don’t really update anything, necessitating another “update” the next time you reboot?

At this point, we’re just ignoring the update popups. It’s not like we were overly impressed with Adobe’s run-of-the-mill, retardedly overpriced crap anyway.

Thatisall.

yep, it’s a pain in the ass. Reader is used to read pdf files and there are free shareware readers that do the same thing. I’d recommend uninstalling Reader and getting one of the free ones. Let me get home and I’ll send you a link for the shareware one. If you don’t intend to edit or creat pdf’s then… Read more »

Dump Adobe and go for Foxit reader. Also I would take a look at portableapps.com. They have portable programs that don’t require an install or write to the registry. I just grabbed the portable version of Java for a work problem, a quick edit to the system environment and one of my more annoying developers stupid java app now works… Read more »

I have the same problem. Finally just told the damn thing to quit reminding me. We’ll see if that does anything al all. I hope so, because when I try to install the update, it gives me some crap about why it CAN’T intall it. It’s about this time when the wife quietly moves the .45 out of my reach.

I hate adobe.

If it weren’t for the fact that the army loves PDF files so damned much I wouldn’t even have it on my computer.

Well – if anyone wants to contribute a thought – I have a phishing popup when loading AOL. It appears every time I try to connect but before the screen actually loads. Can’t find it on the machine, anywhere, went through the registry line by line – not there. Took a computer that has not had AOL on it, loaded… Read more »

I agree with angrywebmaster. I have been using foxit reader for a few years now and it works really well. Iy is a much smaller program and typically faster than Adobe.

As has already been said. Dump Adobe and get Foxit Reader. Unless you’re actually compiling PDF’s, its the best out there. Small and shuts down immediately when you close a document.

I recommend Revo Uninstaller to get rid of Adobe. It has settings to completely rid your system of most any program and any remaining tidbits of it..

If you need to mark up a PDF for some reason, and don’t have the terribly expensive Adobe Pro, use this freeware: xournal. It’s a cool little app that lets you write on a PDF like a pen or magic marker; it also lets you type onto the document. Great if you’re proofreading something for a client and don’t want… Read more »

+1 for Foxit. Although sometimes it doesn’t work right when using McMaster-Carr’s online catalog, it’s still worth not having Adobe’s bloatware.

And for writing pdfs, I installed PrimoPDF. Works like a printer driver.

I actually use PDFFiller for most of my needs. It allows you to upload ANY form, converts it to PDF and you can email, sign, fill in any form!!

And Southern Lib, they already have most forms that even the Army doesn’t have as fillable!! (And as a side note, did I mention I fucking HATE AKO!!?!?!)

Dump Adobe and get PrimoPDF (google it). It’s free, works great as a reader, and also allows you to create and edit PDF files. Who needs Adobe?

Only Adobe product I miss that I lost in the last computer change is Adobe Audition. One of the finest audio editing suites around.

+2 for dumping Adobe and getting Foxit.

For that matter, dump Windoze and get a REAL operating system, Linux. Any distro.

Igor, second that. Been telling em to dump Windouche for years.
If you need to create PDF’s Open Office will save as pdf. It’ll open them too, and can probably edit them. It’s free, and comes standard with Linux (most distros).

Good the Edit button’s back. But where are the smileys and HTML widgets.
