Independents Will Be The Death Of The Republic

Hat Tip to Jaybear and Nicki for getting me pissed-off (again) enough last week to post this one.

Independents will be the death of our beloved Republic if we don’t start right now to carefully examine, analyze and re-educate this group of uninformed, apathetic and rather selfish voters. This crowd is directly responsible for the massive welfare state, irresponsible fiscal policies and a megalithic government bureaucracy. They don’t necessarily vote entirely out of self-interest but having “something in it for me” is a definite motivation, think “Obama gonna fill my gas tank and pay my mortgage”. This bunch of clueless idiots infuriates me at times. These dopes must be that 20 or 30% that we see in opinion polls, that think Teh Won™ is doing a good job. Their reckless ignorance brings us here, to the brink of disaster.

Why am I filled with such vitriol for a group that’s only guilt is apathy or at worst, intentional ignorance? The easiest explanation is to have old Tom take a swing at it:

“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of
civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. . .
The People cannot be safe without information. When the press
is free, and every man is able to read, all is safe.”
— Thomas Jefferson [Emph mine]

This group has made a conscious decision to abrogate their civic duty, by ignoring even small scraps of information about what’s happening in their country. This is equal to Jefferson’s warning about being ‘able to read’, but here they’ve decided not to read . I hear folks out there saying “JB, not everyone is addicted to politics as you are, they just aren’t interested”. Really? This isn’t politics it’s culture. It’s not about right or left, it’s about an essential ingredient of our freedom, knowledge. If we have no understanding of history, economics and civics, it’s absolutely impossible to exercise the citizen’s obligation through the franchise. We all know who they are, they’ll be the fellow in the grocery store lineup behind you, that says “They’re all the same, a bunch of crooks” or perhaps “I don’t follow politics”. The issue is that they don’t know enough to recognize that their concept of “politics” is government and culture. It’s about how much they pay for that grocery order or filling the gas tank on the way home, or what their kids are learning (or not) in school. They don’t make the connection that what they chose to ignore is directly and irrevocably related to just about everything in their world.

The pols on both sides have been totally fixated on wooing this crowd by telling them what they want to hear and the message is childish, foolish and of late, suicidal. But make no mistake about it, the independents definitely lean well to the left, call it their default position. The center can go right, IF a well-tuned message, targeting them is disseminated. The indies are also the root cause of the GOP being afraid to run conservative candidates, as their pandering obsession is to field candidates that are ‘acceptable’ to the independents, which in reality means RINOs and New England liberal republicans (i.e. McTraitor, Mittens, Dole, etc.). Of course they’re going to be demo-lites, because at the end of the day those ‘undecided and independent’ voters will most always chose out of selfishness, apathy towards self-education on the issues (it takes them away from this week’s ‘Jersey Shore’ episode), and a horrifically inadequate understanding of economics and history. Couple that with whoever has the most effective sound-bite of utter bullshit that stays in their chicken-heads long enough to make it into the booth. The left is very, very good at manipulating this bunch into a monolithic voting bloc for the left that’s destroying the country. Sooner or later, ignorance will kill you and unfortunately, we go down with them.

We’re now into the silly presidential season run-up and once again, everybody off and running to pander to the 3-Monkeys called the independent electorate. Once again, our side is on the same old losing track of sticking to the ‘high road’ and refusing to call-out the other side on their lies, distortions and slanders. Who came out and bitch-slapped the “Pawlenty pushes grandma off the cliff” ad? Who came out to nail Obamdinas on his auto-bailout speech prevarication? What little coverage our side gets is more interested in Mittens wearing jeans in New Hampshire or the Journalism Cannon-Ball Run following Sarahcuda’s bus tour. The chirping crickets of the right are back again and that will be our undoing. If our guys don’t come off the bench real soon and keep swinging to get the TRUTH out to the independents, right up until election day 2012 we’re toast. That independent crowd was totally in thrall to Ogagelini in ’08 thanks to effective messaging and they might go that way again, if we don’t have a candidate/message combination that isn’t afraid to tell them things they don’t want to hear. It’s a difficult situation but I’m confident if the GOP really works on it, we can win.

We must be unafraid and loud with the truth, louder than the lies of the left. We must go gloves-off and kill the endless demagoguery with facts and we must educate those Fiddy-Twoers™ or they WILL do it to us again.

Ask yourself a question? If tomorrow was election day, would anyone from our side beat the Usurper-In-Chief™? If not, why? Shouldn’t that be a no-brainer right now? If the economy drives most presidential races why wouldn’t Obamalini™? not get his clock-cleaned by a real conservative?

I think our chances of sending Teh Won™ back to Chicago as a failed one-term president are excellent, but we MUST get in the game to win, not be voted as the Nicest Losers.

While the House is moving toward a showdown with Mr. Obama, a bipartisan group of senators is seeking to bolster the president’s Libya military mission by granting him official approval. I’ve often said, and more so in recent years, that there ought to be some sort of test before you’re allowed to vote. A test, given in English, that quizzes you on basic knowledge the ballot initiatives and candidates you’re about to vote on – in a non-partisan way. For example, if this were used in national election in 2008:… Read more »

What did I do to deserve this honor? I forget already, as I’m perpetually fucking pissed off at something or other! LOL

:em41:

Yeah, I’m with Jaybear on this one. I’ve been registered independent for a handful of years as the Republicans are so hypocritical in my opinion as to be downright weasels. If they’d stuck to their platform and ideals, maybe. For crying out sakes, they are yet again allowing the democrat run media to shove a namby-pamby rino down our throats… Read more »

Those independants you (Jay) describe as the problem are just barely self aware outside of thier skin color or special interest much less able to self identify themselves correctly in a political context. I’m a conservative with a liberitarian bent and the gop can kiss my ass if they think I’m going to vote for the wimpy ass approach to… Read more »

Now you went and done it, JB. I, too, am a registered independent. I was republican my entire voting life, but after the fiasco of the 2008 election, I changed my affiliation. Only once in my life did I ever vote democrat, and that for Ben Nelson when he ran for governor. He was staunchly pro-life at the time, and… Read more »

Sorry Jackboot, you can’t lay this at our feet. It is directly what the Demcong and Repubtards have done to this country ever since the Civil War. Creating a class of “voters” dependent on handouts. All this is, is reaping what you’ve sowed. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils, it’s still evil.

That’s why I’m supporting Herman Cain. The reason I know he’s the right one for the job is because he served his country, he’s proven himself multiple times to be a sharp and successful business leader, and mostly because the media and the establishment RINO crowd’s only rebuke of his campaign is to try to mock him as “a pizza… Read more »

Anyone think the media will have the balls to point out that his prophet went beyond kiddie porn and proceeded to child rape?

I left the republican party several years ago. I seem to always vote for them, considering the alternatives. I do not vote for democrats. Yet they just hit me up for bucks, I got pissed one night, told them to seal the fucking borders, than call me back. They haven’t done either. Right now I am trying to keep my… Read more »

There is no arcane mystery concerning the “independent” voter. He will consult his friends and follow suit. There is no more powerful weapon on earth barring a nuke than social acceptance. Conventional opinion; let’s not call it wisdom; equates the word “conservative” with Horseshit. And therefor voting for a “conservative” marks that person as “one of them”. With all cultural… Read more »

I would be in favor of that if there were questions thrown in for at least one or two 3rd party candidates.
