Something Good For The Weekend

Need to reaffirm your faith in humanity after a long week at the salt mines? Thanks to Tallulah, you can. Oh, and the crowd at Fenway Park too.

Seems it was Disability Awareness Day and the National Anthem was being sung by an autistic gentleman. Watch what happens when he has some trouble, then go and have a good weekend.

Yeah, Marines can get the warm and fuzzies too.

One of the best versions of the National Anthem I’ve heard in a long time. :em04:

A damned sight better than anything Roseanne Barr or Chrissy Aguilera ever croaked out. :em04:

One of the folks at Fenway Park said the crowd really sang out — it gave him goosebumps.

Why can’t we go back to singing the Anthem en masse, like we used to? It’s so trivializing and disrespectful to have these idiot, half-dressed pop tarts warbling a cappella, forgetting the words or grabbing themselves. The Anthem is meant to be sung by us ALL.

As I mentioned before, I sing the anthem every time it used to open an event I’m at, and that’s most of them. Tallulah mentioned in the other post that she’s lucky to get people to take off their hats and put their hands over their hearts let alone sing. Don’t have that problem here, it’s a heavily military area (all branches) so that’s rarely an issue, there’s always someone there to “remind” others to take off their damn hat. Only had to do it once myself, but I think it was the way I expressed my displeasure at the 20 something year old that made the difference. Without raising my voice above normal conversation, I simply told him.

“Take that hat off your head or you’re going to be pulling it out of your ass”

Worked well, and I’m betting he thinks about it every time he hears the anthem. :em99:

Well that and the fact that you’re 6’3 and your biceps were probably bigger than his legs. :em99:

Wonderful vid. Now that I’ve had my hanky moment for the day…I guess I best get some housework done, since it looks like we’re all still here for another day.

Bolton, Loughan,,all them others of tuned vocal chordage and professional singing school that blew it miserably never invoked such an enthusiastic out-belting from the crowd.
I LOVE what that says about the folks that never boo’d this guy like they did the others, but lifted him right up on such high shoulders in song.

What other singer of fame had such a huge, loud,,,heartfelt backup section JUMP RIGHT IN?
Y’know, the buttons on my shirt weren’t this tight a few minutes ago.

Recently at a run for cancer outing I saw a little kid, guessing about 5 yrs old ask his dad very loudly regarding the volunteers that were continuing to talk and such during the singing of the national “don’t they know to show respect”. The father responded loudly “apparently no one ever taught them respect”. Said volunteers shut up, well all but 2 of them who were being given dirty looks until they did.

Got a friend who’s sung the National Anthem at a few Mariners games. I’ve been fortunate enough to have been to a couple when she’s done it, the game is worth it just to hear her sing it..

    Here she is in action

What courage it took that young man to even attempt this……and something beautiful, something wonderful happened. I doubt he will ever forget….I know I wouldn’t.
