USS Michael Murphy, DDG112

Lt. Michael Murphy won the Medal of Honor in 2005 by exposing himself to intense enemy fire to try and call in support for his SEAL team who were under attack by an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in the Konar Province of Afghanistan.

Today, on what would have been his 35th birthday, the U.S. Navy is further honoring the fallen hero by christening a destroyer, the USS Michael Murphy, in his name.

Fair Winds and Following Seas to the USS Michael Murphy DDG112, and all those who sail aboard her.

“They that go down to the sea in ships; That do business in great waters; These see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep.”

(H/T Muscle Daddy for the heads up.)

:em04: to Lt. Michael Murphy. And in keeping with the theme of the deep, blue sea, let me toast you with an “Osama”… two shots and a splash.

If you read the story that whole team should have been awarded the MOH. Gd care for them.

I love it when the Navy names ships after bona fide heroes instead of shitsacks like Jimmy Carter.

Great post! Where is the quote from? “Moby Dick” perhaps. It’s been a long time, but it seems familiar.

The quote’s from a Psalm, but I forget which one.

What christening ceremony could be complete without a contingent of progressive moonbats showing up to pitch their pet causes… right up to and including decrying the “assassination” of their beloved Osama bin Laden?

Certainly not this one.

Response to Mike M @:

At least the parents, friends and colleagues of Michael Murphy can take comfort in the fact that those pissant protesters and their “message” will fade into oblivion while his name will be honored and remembered for as long as that ship sails the seas.

LC 0311 Sir Crunchie I.M.H., K.o.E. says: Response to Mike M @: Stay classy leftists, stay classy. Well, at least they’re consistent. And predictable. I rarely am taken to a point where I want to physical disable a person ability to speak ever again, but these assholes make me want to. Seriously when dumbasses like that dishonor and cause intentional… Read more »

Misha, please consider posting this. Many AIRs are Southerners, and need this heads-up: Homegrown Islamic terrorists are consciously moving to the South to take their Jihad to the heart of “infidel America,” says Erick Stackelbeck, investigative reporter and author of the new book, The Terrorist Next Door. When we sat down, Stackelbeck argued that monster mosques are popping up everywhere… Read more »

Is she pissed off they haven’t named a submarine after Teddy Kennedy yet? They’ve already named a vessel after Ol’ Gutsy Call and he hasn’t even been booted from office yet. Tell her to be patient, one thing at a time.
