Coming Soon to a Country Near You…

Found at the inestimable Fran’s place, a horror story out of Canada, the sort of horror story that, had any of us warned that it would come to this, we’d have been told that we were just paranoid fanatics seeing ghosts everywhere.

Canada’s Supreme Court took democracy out of the death equation by conjuring a “right” to be made dead under very broad circumstances.

Now, pressure is starting to force religiously-affiliated medical institutions and doctors to kill.

After a Catholic hospital refused to euthanize a patient, who apparently received inadequate pain relief in the process of transfer, calls are being made to force Catholic and other faith institutions to commit what the Church considers a cardinal sin.

Let’s get a few things out of the way first: Self murder IS a cardinal sin, the end. Full stop. That being said, His Imperial Majesty would never ever presume to know what it is like being the patient in this story. We’ve never walked a mile in his shoes, we don’t know the kind of personal torment he’s in, we have not the first earthly clue what he’s facing, his circumstances, his anything, so we’re not judging. Not even slightly. That, too, is not for us to do. Somebody Else has that job, and we’ve been told that He takes a dim view of us mortals pretending that we can do it better than He.

What the individual caught in a situation like that chooses to do, if he chooses to end it all, that is HIS decision, and it’s between him and G-d, and nobody else.

But neither he, nor anybody else, gets to pull some third party into it as an unwilling accomplice, and we don’t give even one iota of a fraction of a good damn what the law or anybody else says. When it comes to choosing between answering to an idiotic, tyrannical law made by idiotic, tyrannical mortals and having to answer to the eternal judgment of G-d, we don’t really see ourself as facing a hard choice.

But, remember, this was never going to happen, you crazy, cultist, theocratic Christofascists.

This was never going to happen just like your crazy, deluded, hateful mumblings that if gay marriage was made the law of the land, Christians would be prosecuted in a court of law for refusing to take part in it by baking cakes for such a wedding was never going to happen.

Until it did.

Bake your own damned cake, punch your own damn ticket.

But don’t make US do it.

If it becomes the law of the land that it’s OK to rape women, don’t expect US to help you hold them down while you’re doing it.

DO expect us to immediately ventilate your brain group housing with a nice, hot injection of .45 ACP, though, because that most assuredly WILL happen.

If you’re very, very lucky.

Thatisall.

I do recall that if adequate pain control for a dying patient involves hastening death, that is morally acceptable because death is not the goal of the treatment. So they couldn’t just give him a fatal dose, but if what was needed to treat the pain caused enough respiratory depression for him to die, oh well.

The real concern is that after making folks, against their deeply held religious convictions, actively help others die, is that the state will then step in to decide who needs to die and force doctors to help folks die who don’t want to.

So even if one doesn’t have a moral/ethical issue with suicide, this should be fought tooth and nail because it really is a slippery slope.

    Mmm…Lead (for the enemy).

Right to die? Obligation to terminate? Why, that only applies to youse “government-owns-your-conscience” types. In this country such edicts are, potentially, a capital offense.

I must make the same difficult choice about my wife, whose cancer has spread.

I’m greedy in that respect, because I want my wife to live as long as possible.

I’m realistic, in that what my wife is going through no one should suffer through it.

    It’s a difficult choice.

But there is no way in hell I would allow someone willingly to pull the plug for whatever reason.

G-d will get you for that at the pearly gates, and I’ll make sure that person makes that meeting with G-d.

That’s the thing about the Great Socialist Utopia – it’s always one death away. You’d think more people would fear democide, but everyone knows “it can’t happen here” in Leegreenwoodistan.

I’m ok with an individual having the right to choose their own death. However, someone else (especially one operating under the flag of the government) getting to choose an individual’s death indicates that everyone (read: mundanes) just got formally demoted to state property.

Dunno, Your Majesty, I’ve come into the ownership of a SW .357 lately. I think that would also nicely perform said “injection”. Es Ist nicht notig das es ist eine .45, meinen Sie.

Nein, ist es halt nicht, jeder Pistole wird’s schaffen.

(For non-Teutons: No, it isn’t, any pistol will do). Keep the gene pool clean will be our motto. ;)

Yep. Exactly this. It’s a personal decision, and nobody else should be dragged into it, especially not the government.

From someone who had to make a similar decision. Maybe you should ask your wife, and do what she wants.

We are sailing into the seas of iniquity and must prepare to take the consequences of disobeying Them: as publicly as possible. How are They going to look when nuns, priests, and the laity hit the streets in protest? When they force the Leftists to arrest them in chains for disobeying? This we must do, our souls depend on it.

    One more thought.

If they actually do force that through, I hope the bishops do what the American bishops threatened over abortions and the morning after pill, which is to shutter the buildings and refuse to sell. If forced to sell, make sure there is major demolition, ‘accidental’ if need be, before the property is turned over to an organization eager and willing to commit murder in the name of ‘compassion’ or ‘reproductive choice’.
