So Here We Are…

At least the neverending primary is finally over, and we may all be grateful for that.

As to the result? That depends on who you are, we suppose. His Imperial Majesty didn’t get the candidate he wanted, but we have to admit that we’re a great deal less heartbroken about it today than we would have been 6 months ago. Cruz is still a great conservative, regardless of butthurt protestations to the contrary, he just needs to figure out how to be so in a way that actually connects with the people he wants to reach out to.

Rule number one when you’re trying to reach somebody: Try actually reaching them.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: It doesn’t matter how much you have all of the right opinions if nobody hears them because your presentation puts them to sleep five minutes in.

Also, if you’re running for office, it pays to talk about the stuff that actually matters to the people you’re trying to reach. If people are broke, unemployed, worried about hordes of barbarian savages invading their neighborhoods and blowing themselves up in malls and watching their jobs go to illegal immigrants or sweat shops abroad, they’re not very likely to be overly impressed by how much you’ve memorized Hayek, von Mises and Friedman.

If people are fed up to their back teeth with thought police zampolits terrorizing them if they dare speak openly, they’re not likely to be blown away by carefully vetted, focus group tested sermons signifying absolutely nothing.

And so on and so forth, we’re sure you get the drift.

We suppose we could say that we were surprised by the outcome of this primary but, truth be told, we weren’t.

It was clear that there was only one contestant out of the 17, 16?, 235? who was actually trying to win and who actually had something to say that anybody had an interest in listening to. Anybody outside of the Beltway and/or outside the vanishingly small clique of political junkies like ourself, that is.

And that matters in an election year like this one has been.

The American people are bloody sick and tired of being ruled by a corrupt pile of parasitical vermin in DC who will promise them the moon to get elected and then, immediately, turn around and piss them in the face. As a consequence, ANY sort of trying to win through “politics as usual” will raise red flags all over the place among the electorate because they, we, have heard it all before and it has always, EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME, ended with another batch of bloodsucking, lying, venal, corrupt parasites elbowing up to the trough while we get left with a sore arsehole and a huge bill.

The people were, and are, ready for something entirely different, really different, and they voted for it good and hard.

All the other 16 suckweasels, any one of them, would have had to do to puncture the balloon would be to grab one or more of the issues that it was abundantly clear that we lowly voters actually give a flying fuck about and run with it. But they couldn’t do that, now could they? Nooo… That would mean their precious selves having to lower themselves to the level of the unwashed, ungrateful, ignorant voters, and if there’s one thing they won’t do, it’s that.

It’s simply not done, old chap.

They’ll happily mortgage the futures of our descendants to the 50th generation, jump into bed with terrorists, race hustlers, tinpot dictators and even Progressive Socialist Democrats, but spend just one minute trying to care about their own countrymen, raped, ravaged and persecuted for decades… Nope. Can’t do that.

Except one did, and once he did and nobody else followed suit, the outcome was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Is it a “disaster for the GOP and conservatism?”

Don’t make us laugh. That train left the station back in ’88 when George HW “Read My Lips” Bush moved into the White House and started selling out everything his predecessor had built. Don’t pin that one on Donald Trump, because that particular house was burned to the ground long before he entered the race.

“Worst” case scenario is that he burns down the sham the GOPe replaced it with and pisses in the ashes and, try as we might, we can’t really say honestly that seeing the smoldering remains of that whorehouse defiled is a Bad Thing™.

Best case scenario? Who knows? We, unlike the multitudes of prognosticators of Doom™ springing up all over the place these days, certainly don’t.

At the end of the day, it is what it is and we have what we have. The facts on the ground aren’t going to change no matter how much excitable hysterics throw temper tantrums and cover themselves with ashes while tearing out their hair, so we suggest that we all pour ourselves a nice big cup of calm the fuck down and see where this leads us.

The people finally found its voice and somebody who cared enough to listen. About fucking time too. It’s not the people’s fault that nobody else ever gave enough of a fuck about them to bend over and grab the votes who could have been theirs for the taking.

Also, pro-tip to #NeverTrumpers: We understand your frustrations, we really do, but if you’re trying to win people back to your side, calling them cousin-humping, knuckle-dragging, cretinous Nazis on continuous loop is probably not the strategy you want to go with. Just putting it out there…

One thing is for sure: Business As Usual is well and truly dead.

And good riddance to it as well. May it and its proponents burn in hell everlasting.

Thatisall.

From a Cruz/Trump straddler who landed on the Trump side pre-primary…

    …welcome home, my liege! :em01:

Tallulah mentioned something in the comments to the other thread that reminded me just what, exactly, it was that broke the camel’s back for me: When Cruz blamed the Prozi stormtroopers’ assaults on Trump and his supporters on… Trump.

We’ve had enough spineless cowards, nithings and scum making up excuses for the Prozis and their violent trampling upon all that this nation used to stand for, cringing half-men who haven’t the simple courage to call the enemy by its name for fear they will anger them.

No more. Not while I live.

While being a Brit, my opinion counts for exactly sod all, this was the event that turned me off my vague preference for Cruz. Was there any candidate who came out against the violent protestors other than Trump?

This is essentially the conversation His Royal Terribleness and I had a few days ago.

He asked me..and others have asked why Trump..why are people following him?

    “Because they are stupid”

Dont be fucking naive. Thats a libtard meme.

Trump appeals because he is not

    Establishment
    PC
    A liar
    A fool

In many ways as an Aussie I identify with Trump for one main reason..he speaks his mind and he doesnt give a ratfuck about the DC RINO’s. When whatsherface Goldberg said she’d leave America, what’d Trump do?

Called her bluff. Told her seeya bye bye dont slam the door...to which the average American, the ones that MATTER, the heart and soul of America, sat and howled. Why?

Because theyd been wanting to say that for YEARS. :em05: :em05:

Trump has resonated (and I use that word in all seriousness) with the rank and file heartland voter who is sick to fucking DEATH of all of them. This isnt ” a plague on both your houses”

This is “Go fuck yourselves we dont need or want you anymore”

The American people have had a gutful of the fact the Beltway Bandits dont speak for them , dont work for them, wont do what they want, wont respect their freedoms and wont DO AS THEY ARE TOLD once they get into office

They are not masters they are ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES who are there to do what “we the people” want. They havent done that for DECADES and the line has been drawn etcetera etcetera..in basic terms, (and please forgive this), they finally get the voice and the chance to say what many of them have been dreaming of for decades

    And via the polls?

Be honest. Tell me that not ONCE have you ever wished to be able to go up to one of these progtards and say

“You arent serving the people. You are violating our freedoms and the Constitution you swore to uphold. We’bve given you every chance to change and to follow our instructions”

“Get your hat and coat, see the bursar for your pink slip”

    YOU’RE FIRED :em05: :em05:

Trump doesnt have all the answers. No one does. He cant fix it all..no one can. But, for at least the next four years, you will have a President who

    Believes in the 2nd amendment

Knows how to make a profit

Knows how to broker a deal that wont leave the US poorer for it.

Will govern for the people, not for his own agenda. Given the clusterfuck of the last eight years…he will make a refreshing change.

I’ve been following the “pundits” and how they’ve descended into full blown Trump Derangement Syndrome. Even people on Faceplant and several Forums are pulling their hair out and talking about voting for Gary Johnson.
    :em06:
They are fine with Cankles winning to “Punish” America.
They are also screeching that now it’s dead certain Cankles will win in November, and we will lose the Senate and the house and woe be us!
    :em06:
None of them seem to understand that a major shift is happening. Cankles is in a photo finish with an FBI criminal investigation and if there is any honesty left in DC, she’s going to be doing the Perp walk. If the don’t indict, Trump is going to bury her. Even the Democrats don’t like her one bit.
Bill Kristol, George Will, Charles Krauthammer, they’re all trying to deal with the fact that no one is paying them any attention. Kristol is so far into insanity that he thinks they can run some fraud as a independent and win. (They are actually considering Mittens Romney again!)
    :em06:
I think Trump is going to win. I think a few RINO, (McCain) are going to lose either their primary or the general. The next 4 years are going to be interesting in the Chinese definition of the word.

One more point about Senator Cruz, whom I donated to (twice): He came to NYC and addressed a Republican crowd, ALL fans, so he could have let his hair down. We were expecting him to be a firebrand — but he gave us a classic policy-wonk speech.

I was worried all along about this. Politicians need, not just good principles, but the ability to move hearts and minds. Trump has the latter in spades. Cruz, he focused on “features” and never got around to the “BENEFITS.”

I also had the chance to meet Scott Walker — same problem with him. I said to him, “Gov. Walker, what we need is someone who has the guts to stand up for the AMERICAN WAY that made us GREAT in the first place.” He just looked at me like a gigged frog — no reaction, no flicker of agreement. Like shooting into a dead rail on a pool table: THONK.

Haley Barbour (who is a male), ex-Gov. of Mississippi, also addressed our group in 2014, and he was ranting that ideological “PURITY IS THE ENEMY OF VICTORY!” Angry, red-faced, spittle flying. So, tell me again that the GOPe’s objection to Trump is that he’s “Not a real conservative”?????

    Bull Hockey.

Also, there is a good chance that Trump could put a healthy dent into the block voting by people with dark skin that the Democrats have been taking for granted for decades. If he should pull 20% or more from them…

Hey. Good to see you posting again, Emperor. I was starting to wonder if you reset my login for me and then croaked on us.

Is it a “disaster for the GOP and conservatism?”

Well… as you linked my post at Bill’s, you know my opinion on the “disaster for conservatism” thing: if it is, then it’s because conservatism has become intellectually and philosophically bankrupt over the years since Reagan.

Is it a disaster for the GOP(e)? Oh, I devoutly hope so.

But if it is, it is a self inflicted disaster for the GOP. For all of the sentiments that I’ve seen in the alt-right about burning the GOP down, it looks as though no one will need to lift a finger – they’re busily self-destructing from within and burning it down themselves in the wake of Trump’s Indiana victory and Cruz and Kasich suspending their campaigns.

I’ve been watching politics since I was around seventeen and started paying attention. I’ve honestly never seen anything like this. I never in almost forty years ever thought that I’d live to see one of the main parties self-destruct and disintegrate like this.

And now, given the way the Bernie-ites are reacting to Hillary and the Super-delegate thing, it looks like we may just get a twofer.

I’m torn between shaking my head and going, “Man, this is insane,” and letting my Inner Kang out and going, “It will be GLORIOUS!”

As I said. If it”s a “disaster” for the GOPe, then that’s good news. Conservatism? It’s not dead, but if anybody is looking for culprits as to the attempted murder, then need look no further than the Bushes and the current lot of GOPe swine in DC who have been helping the Progressive Socialist Party’s attempts to strangle it ever since Reagan left office.

It’s probably important at this point to attempt to distinguish between Conservatism as a political philosophy and movement, and conservatives: the people who adhere to (or profess to adhere to) the conservative principles as outlined by Kirk and others.

I’m like Z-man over at Z-blog: it’s the Buckley Conservative movement that I generally refer to when I state that, IMO, the Conservative movement has become intellectually and philosophically bankrupt, as well as ineffectual – not necessarily conservatives the people.

However, I’m afraid, Misha, that I’ve hit the point where it’s harder and harder for me to identify who is really conservative by principles and who are just people calling themselves “conservatives” as a label ever since this whole Trump thing blew up. I’ve seen so many people that I would have thought that were rock stalwart conservatives going absolutely moonbatshit crazy and savaging other conservatives simply because those others support Trump.

I’ve finally thrown up my hands on it. There’s people like you, Bill Quick, Mike Hendrix, and a few others that I’ve known for years, and while we disagree on points of philosophy or tactics occasion, we’re still friends, and we don’t turn on each other. And we more or less have each others backs, as we can.

    And there’s everyone else.

It’s kind of a sucky state of affairs for people like us who’ve been with the blogosphere nearly from the beginning to have to look at it that way… but here we are.

I’ll stick by my friends and the hell with philosophies and labels, when it comes down to it. The hell with everyone else.

Uh huh. We were discussing just that a few days ago over at Daily Pundit, in comments on one of Bill’s posts.

It’s not just the Voter I.D. states, although those show a major effect. If you look at the voter turnouts in all of the primary races to date in the map at Politico, and then compare them to previous primary elections, the Dem turnouts are low across the board even compared back as far as 2004. Disastrously low, in some cases.

Whereas the Republican turnout is higher than it’s been in a long, long time, compared to previous Republican primaries.

The voting numbers within the numbers are interesting also. Trump is galvanizing apparently a lot of people who don’t normally turn out, as well as a lot of crossover voters. He’s winning demographics that no one thought he would – Latinos in Arizona and Nevada, for example.

Hillary doesn’t even galvanize her own base.

Bernie galvanizes Bernie-ites, which is great: but there’s not enough Bernie-ites to win the General.

And if the Dems hand the primaries and nomination to Hillary via the Super-delegates, and a significant number of disgruntled Bernie supporters stay home in November…

I think that November is going to surprise the hell out of a lot of people, just as the primaries have.
