I remember a Swede lecturing us on a message board about her ‘benign’ socia-fascist country, where it was just expected and accepted that people passing through had every right to go ahead and sleep in your shed, eat off your trees and gardens, etc. etc. She couldn’t believe we Americans were so greedy and selfish that we would deny passers-through to shack up in our sheds, garages, pitch tents in our backyards, etc.

I guess we’re supposed to accept that here too, now, even if they destroy your property and kill your animals, even if they are here illegally. They have rights to your property and to destroy it. Unbelievable.

Coincidentally ON-topic:

In post #5, I pointed out the difference between a tort and a crime. A similar situation just occurred to me.

If you remember, during the Presidential Primaries, several Republican candidates – most notably Rudy Giuliani – made the statement that being an illegal immigrant is not CRIMINAL.

He kept repeating this, and specifically used the word “Criminal”. I believe that he did this intentionally to give the impression that an illegal immigrant’s presence in the United States was not, in fact, illegal. Aside from being a preposterous notion, this was said to give himself cover (should he win) to fight against deporting illegal aliens, and to push for amnesty.

What he was very, VERY, careful to always say was that being an illegal immigrant in the U.S. was not a CRIME. This is true. However, it IS, nevertheless, ILLEGAL. I forget the exact place in the USC where this is made abundantly clear but, trust me, it’s there (somewhere in Title 8).

More importantly, though, simply being present in someone else’s home without permission is not a CRIME — but it’s proof positive of the CRIME of Breaking and Entering. Likewise, the mere presence of an illegal immigrant on U.S. soil, while definitely illegal, is not CRIMINAL — but it is proof positive that the immigrant is guilty of the CRIME of crossing our border in violation of our (extraordinarily generous) legal immigration rules.

Off-Topic. God, this reminds me what a shitpile of potential candidates we had, and we STILL somehow got stuck nominating the worst one. And, after that, we got stuck inaugurating perhaps the only person in all of politics who would have been worse than McCain. WTF!
