Goosestepping to Our Glorious Future

Of all the tools in the dictators tool box, propaganda is one of the most effective. And it works even better when you have a gullible, or civics  ignorant population. I’m talking at you fiddy two’ers. Of all the trends of Socialist tyranny thrown at us since Teh Ascension of Teh One™, propaganda has largely been handled by the state owned mediots of the MSM. Now, thanks to  a heads up from Ron at Conservative Analysis, we learn that Dear Leaders minions want to make it an official departmental function of the new politburo.

There’s little that I can add to his excellent commentary so go read it for yourself. I will say though that before someone pooh pooh’s the idea of official Government propaganda to coerce our population, think about how the tobacco companies were extorted to pay for the guerilla campaign waged against them by Truth. Or the Cash for Clunkers abortion to make people buy more “ecofriendly” cars. Or so called “sin taxes”. And a plethora of other tax breaks for certain “acceptable” behaviors. They’ve been doing it for years already, now they’re making it official, with a statute and everyting. Yeah them!

Time to buy another few hundred rounds.

I advocate a new amendment to our Constitution: People need to pass a basic intelligence test before they can vote. Period.

Or how about a civics test? History?

Off to the gunshop for ammo.

I say we go back to the good old days where only property owners are allowed to vote. When you understand what taxes you are actually paying and then how those taxes are being spent are you capable of making an informed decision.

While renters may have property taxes built into their rent, the vast majority of them do not feel the pain. The renters agree to the higher taxes because it will only affect the rich people and then wonder why their rent went up.

As a kid we moved from Manhatten to a 200 yr old cabin in the appalachians. On the day of our arrival I was in the upstairs looking out over a small field created by a electric fence. As I’m looking over this scene, in to view comes our dog “red” now Red was a little dog with a huge heart ….. but he was a “city” dog. Red proceeds to gingerly sniff the electric wire, hike his leg, and piss. I heard his yelp from 75 yrds away through the closed window, and watched a red streak move towards the house. When I went down stairs there was the dog lickng his nuts at about a hundred miles an hour…. and the look on that poor dogs face.

I am thankful for that dog….. I could have been the one to learn that lesson

And do I need to be the one to say it? Should be obvious. Forget poll taxes, intelligence tests, and other potentially arbitrable things like that. There should be a Terran Federation (of Heinlein’s, there’s a lot of TFs in science fiction out there) style service requirement for the vote.

Demonstrate your own self that you actually have civic virtue, and upon completion of your service, you get the franchise. Everyone can do it, there are no excuses not to, except moral failing.

Dragging the thread back on topic…

I believe all of the presidents who considered themselves to be progressives had either an official propaganda arm, or an unofficial one. FDR had the National Recovery Administration (Blue Eagle), Woodrow Wilson had The Committee for Public Information, Theodore Roosevelt had “yellow journalism” supporting his aims. I think every president has used propaganda to one point or another pretty much since the nation was founded. However, the times that the propaganda arm was official have been rare.

    In regards to PB’s comment @ :4:
In those good old days, property owners were the only ones who paid taxes. So, if you modify your statement that only taxpayers are allowed to vote, I could agree with you, even though there would have been some years that I wouldn’t have been allowed to vote.
I also think that every voter roll in the nation should be completely purged. Then to reregister to vote, you must present a U.S. birth certificate. And, before you can vote in an election, you must present that birth certificate and a photo id to the poll watchers. If that is too much trouble for a voter to go through, they don’t have too much interest in the governing of the United States, and don’t deserve to vote in the first place.
Oklahoma has an interesting voter registration law: voter registration closes 24 days before an election. If you haven’t registered by then, you have to sit out the election. So, in Oklahoma there is none of this ACORN shit of sitting outside the polling place, registering anyone that comes along and sending them inside to vote.
I’m with cmblake: a civics test before being allowed to register to vote. If you don’t pass the civics exam, you have to wait a year before you can take it again.
Gunsniper, you asked for a design for a test for senility or dementia: if someone wants to register Democrat, that is a sure sign right there. :em93: Just kidding, DJ
