In yet another example of the elegance of his fuckuppery, the shining example of “Hopeandchange™” went on the Jay Leno show, opened his mouth and shoved both feet in it.

Why, Barry, why? There are electrical outlets at the studio…did you
leave your CrackOPrompter behind AGAIN?

It’s nice to see that you have your priorities straight….practise your bowling, insult a vital ally, bowl a 129, forget the name of a head of state….think about getting a dog for the kids and try to destroy the 2nd amendment.

Wait…yes…get the dog.

At least something in the White House will have intelligence.

EDIT: It has been confirmed that the DVD set Obama gave Prime Minister Gordon Brown does not work in the UK.

Ol’ JugEars couldn’t even get the fucking region right..

The DVD thing… Who cares? It’s DVD’s. Give me a break! Obama and Brown are friends – if not out of conviction then out of convenience.

If you don’t understand that Obama’s gaffe was a massive slap in the face, then you’re as clueless as I thought.

That fuckup will have consequences. Bad ones.

I come from a family that has had some diplomatic history..and I am telling you right now that that one incident is what the diplomats call an “OH FUCK”moment…and other world leaders are going to see this as I do , and that wont bode well for the future.

Obama is in general far more popular in Europe than in the States – and he has been so for a long time.

So was Hitler. I don’t give a rat fuck for Europistan, they like many other nations, are practically dhimmi.

    Trade agreements? Military alliances?

There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment

Barack HUSSEIN Obama is going to regret that.

I’m not saying that’s an excuse for the mistakes made, but at least the rest of us parhaps could stop standing outside the realm of reality looking in for a while…

I was commenting on a region code for a set of DVD’s and on a joke that clearly was not intended as a mockery.

The problem isn’t that he said something politically incorrect. You even refer to it indirectly below:

    - And I have actually defended Bush in the very same way. Didn’t like his policies, but the man wasn’t stupid. I don’t believe anyone capable of winning the presidency is. That said, I did laugh when he screwed up. Never considered it anything more than that though – screw-ups and good laughs.

Compare and contrast the treatment of Obama in the press vs Bush. Personally, I’d say squirrel this comment away as a club to beat people over the head with the next time a Republican does something not completely politically correct.

The quotes you provide I did not know of. I completely and wholeheartedly agree with you that that is not very clever to say and even less true. By the way – I’m convinced that Obama does so too…

Then let his actions support his words. Admittedly he hasn’t had time to produce any real actions that indicate friendship with the UK, but now people will be watching.

[edit] Also, a one off thing like this can be ignored, but when it turns into a trend (Russia, Brazil etc)

The DVD thing… Who cares? It’s DVD’s. Give me a break! Obama and Brown are friends – if not out of conviction then out of convenience.
In the UK Obama is far more popular than Brown and Brown is not going to let an inevitable popularity boost slip through his fingers when all he has to do is get his picture in papers throughout Britain showing him shaking Obama’s hand. Maybe that’s why his staffers were so disappointed about the press conference…

You are correct that Brown is not very popular over here. As I commented elsewhere, had it just been the DVDs, we would have laughed. In fact I did. That was until I read the entirety of the Telegraph article where the anonymous staffer was quoted, I was bemused at the affair. By the way, were you aware that Gordon Brown has a glass eye and has questionable vision in the other eye? This is public knowledge. Does that make the DVDs an appropriate present?

Obama is in general far more popular in Europe than in the States – and he has been so for a long time. That is the primary reason that I don’t see – in terms of US-EU relations – what diplomatic problems you think Obama has. EU leaders – Brown especially – will be clinging to his coattails in the hope that it will help them with their own approval ratings.

Kinda hard to say, as I’m doubt I’m that average a Brit as far as keeping an eye on US politics is concerned. The BBC is… very friendly towards Obama.

So you think I’m clueless. You have every right to believe that, but… Wait…, did I miss the argument? I can only say what I said before. It was DVD’s! The world didn’t end – we’re still here.

That fuckup will have consequences. Bad ones.

Yeah, I can see it now… Brown’s DVD player being sent in to have the region lock removed – at the expense of the US taxpayer. Horrendous! Horrendous I say!

    So was Hitler.

If you ask around in France, the Netherlands, the UK, Denmark, Norway and especially Poland I think you’ll find that more people in those countries had greater grievances with Hitler than people in the US. Because of the bombings, invasions and – well, you know – death camps and such…

I don’t give a rat fuck for Europistan, they like many other nations, are practically dhimmi.

I’m sure you don’t and that’s a perfectly valid opinion. But EU leaders do I think, and that was my point. Obama is hugely popular in Europe and therefore, naturally, every EU leader can’t wait to show how they’re best buddies with him.

Barack HUSSEIN Obama is going to regret that.

I think he already does. I never said that that wasn’t an insult and an incredibly stupid thing to say. When the anonymous source is revealed I wonder for how long he has a job…

    Brendan,

Um… I’m not sure whether you were intending to address my post or Gangraad’s, or maybe some of both.

I didn’t write the stuff you blockquoted, Gangraad did, and I agree with you. My post was mostly about political correctness regarding terms for the retarded or disabled — independent of Obama’s latest gaffe. If it were anyone else, I’d dismiss the “special olympics” comment entirely; but, since it’s Obama, I say let him have it — not just as retaliation for the left’s treatment of Bush over the past 8 yrs, but also because our first affirmative action president is the kind of liberal douchebag who likes to insist on political correctness in others. To me, the hypocrisy is more asinine than the comment itself.

Also, I don’t know if you intended to refer to me about never defending Bush on this site. It is, nevertheless, true. I’ve never defended President Bush here for a couple of reasons:
    1. If it was one of his “Bushisms”, I probably found it funny, too. I never considered George W.’s incomplete grasp of the English language as a sign of general stupidity like the liberals did. I just thought they were comical malapropisms.
    2. I may have actually agreed with some criticisms of President, depending on what they were.
    3. Many others here defended him quite adequately and vociferously. I juast didn’t see anything to add.

    But, mostly
    4. There have been only a few liberal posters here to defend Bush from. I’ve made no secret that I find arguing with liberals a useless exercise, with potentially harmful physical repercussions to any conservative who attempts it (high blood pressure, migraines, skull fractures from repeated self-inflicted head trauma, stroke, etc.).

    And I still say:

“That poor dog…. That poor, poor dog.”

At the risk of stating the obvious, the special olympics gaffe reveals a remarkable pattern. Many have discussed what happens to President Obama when he is away from the teleprompter, but I haven’t heard much about what those comments reveal about the man. The first time I heard him seriously gaffe was at Saddleback Church during the forum with John McCain. He indicated that determining when life started was “above [his] paygrade.” This caused quite a stir because it showed a modicum of equivocation and even familiarity with the issue. This latest gaffe shows a lack of tact and understanding of the plight of people tagged with “special needs.”

To me, these things reveal a man who is all package and no substance – an empty suit with a paper thin core. He is a poster boy, a marketing ploy, a media mannequin.

The only thing worst in my view is that a clear majority of this nation elected this type of man to the highest office of leadership in the free world. When you match that with the 1996 re-election of Komrade Klinton, you must conclude that there are far too many stupid people voting in this country.

And that is dangerous beyond words.

ya’ know……we can argue the semantics and body language of what odumbo said all day and not go anywhere. But I think a huge point has been missed in the debate.

At the risk of sounding repetitious here, I have taught in the public school system for 5 years now…all new employees have to attend mandatory “training” sessions in diversity, proper touching, union indoctrination, and sensitivity. We are taught what we can say and what we can’t say……words like “handicapped”, “deaf”, “blind”, “black”, “retarded”, “amputee” and “Merry Christmas” are strictly verboten and can lead to disciplinary action by the district. These are speech codes put in place through actions taken by left wing activists, activists that worship odumbo and of which odumbo is one……If, in my classroom, I said that my abysmal golf skills could qualify for “special olympics” I might be fired and probably sued by someone.

Hell, look at what happened to Rush Limbaugh for his remarks about Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. He said that McNabb was getting breaks in the media because he was one of the few black quarterbacks in the NFL….a stupid remark yes, but Limbaugh was crucified and lost his job as a commentator on ESPN. But odumbo and leftists in general feel empowered to just say whatever they want, regardless of the offense because they are superior and believe themselves to be enlightened.

I find it elitist, insensitive, arrogant, and hypocritical that this sham of a president can so flippantly say that kind of thing in a public forum and people will defend him because they’ve been duped into believing he is the messiah…….

he’s an asshole, and not worthy of standing on the same stage with Special Olympics kids.

I didn’t read all the comments, but I am not upset about what Obama said, just the double-standard that he gets a pass for it, when a politician/president with an R after his name would have been vilified endlessly for such, “insensitivity.”

The other issue I have with this is that he is the freakin’ POTUS and he has no business going on a late-night talk show and yukking it up.

I watched both his “townhall meetings” that he had in California, and the guy is a combination of a blatant liar and a clueless asshat. Some of the comments that he made were outrageously false and/or clueless.

He also padded the audience with a bunch of suck-ups, and then proceeded to claim that they hadn’t screened anyone. I am not backing off of this guy. He is a narcissistic, power-hungry, pathological liar. He is very dangerous to my country.

“I was shocked to learn of the comment made by President Obama about Special Olympics,” Governor Palin said. “This was a degrading remark about our world’s most precious and unique people, coming from the most powerful position in the world.

“These athletes overcome more challenges, discrimination and adversity than most of us ever will. By the way, these athletes can outperform many of us and we should be proud of them. I hope President Obama’s comments do not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community.”

    Oh yeah…

don’t know about being a better man Gonz, but I’m in a kind of unique position. I’ve been in the computer graphics/arts industry since about 1987, and am pretty fluent in most of the big apps out there…things like photoshop ,flash, illustrator, 3ds max, maya, and 2D and 3D animation etc……I started out training teachers in the school district to teach these things and ended up in a classroom myself. The classes I teach are pretty specialized and there’s not a lot of people out there that can teach it…..that’s not said out of ego, it’s just the situation. Kinda like an airline pilot teaching flying courses I guess. I did my duty sitting through the “training” sessions all the while mumbling “bullshit” under my breath and I held my tongue and let my mind wander a lot. I never joined the teachers union, and have never been shy about voicing my opinion about matters political or patriotic…..I’ve found that there a lot more conservative teachers than you’d think in the school system, but they seem to think that they have to tread lightly with their ideology lest they bring down the wrath of the bureaucrats upon them…..That’s one of the problems that I see with the education system, there seems to be a group think among teachers that there is no other option for them but to suck it up and accept the educrats dictates….there seems to be this prevailing thought they can do nothing else but be a compliant lock step teacher in the system….that their entire life is locked up in that classroom and they better do nothing to rock the boat.

I never feared the district bureaucrats as I was doing contract graphics, training, and web work for those very same bureaucrats….and I always had a trump card to play, I also teach at a graphics/programming college and knew that I could always go back to work for them full time. That’s what I did last year when I had pay disputes with the district, I resigned and went back to work teaching with the college….now contracting to a high school voc school teaching a college sponsored animation class and teaching my college classes as well.

and I STILL haven’t joined the goddamned union!!!

And let them know that you support them and that others will support them. My son was lucky last year (2nd grade) he had a “old school” teacher…. I met with her for the traditional student meeting and during the course of the conversation we touched on “bullying” and other types that disprupt the learning environment. I advised her in very clear language that my son was being raised to understand that its OK and he is expected to defend himself if attacked. She was perfectly fine with my assertion and that he would not be subject to any disciplinary proceedings as a result of him defending himself.

Ultimately I think there are many teachers that are at ther very least moderate and just want to teach. They must be defended and supported….and they must know that defense and support is available.

Princess Natasha, Uber-Whore of Zion says:

Oh… really?REALLY? Look… This is not about the stupid petty nonsense the moron we are stuck with for the next 4 years does or says.

Of course it isn’t…I would never expect someone to actually wait for a person to do or say something stupid before ridiculing him. If – by pure chance – the guy doesn’t screw up – that strategy will just get you stuck. Much easier to just pour it on him for no reason at all…

It’s about the principle underlying the whole thing. Thanks to a bunch of lazy, worthless, dishonest idiots, we are stuck with this incompetent commie for 4 years.

Second that! Who the hell came up with that whole idiot “democracy” thing anyway? Oh yeah…, stupid Greeks!
Oligarchy – now that’s the way to go, but still the Greeks had it wrong. It shouldn’t be wealth; military influence or your family’s standing that determines who gets a seat at the table. I don’t know about you, but I think you should!

Until the time the said commie was (allegedly) elected, I’ve been hearing and reading crap about then-President George W. Bush, from the so-called “liberals” that was a lot worse, and a lot less deserved.

And if that isn’t cause for getting back at whomever that was that said and wrote such things, no matter how pathetically irrelevant the screw-up may be, then I don’t know what is!

So… Fair game is fair game. Just because some Euro-serfs are enamored of this repulsive socialist freak, does not mean he is off-limits to ridicule

Enough with the sarcasm for now…, did you actually read what I wrote earlier? The “Obama is popular in Europe” – thing, was my way to underline how much diplomatic capital Obama has here… I never said that Americans need to care…

And I absolutely never said that Obama was or should be immune to ridicule. In fact I encouraged it. It was the seriousness in which the ridicule was viewed that I argued against – and even then I only did so, because what caused the ridicule was as stupid and non-story like as a set of DVD’s and a bad joke.

I will grant, for the moment, that this alone would not be a fatal blow. The question is, is this the start of a trend, with more and bigger gaffes, insults and snubs to follow?

And that was all I asked. I don’t know if this is the beginning of a trend. I can tell you though that – unlike you guys :em93: – I don’t hope so.

Agreed .. certainly not a huge damage factor when it comes to the relationship as a whole …..butt….. It seems to me that when a newly elected POTUS meets what is arguably our CLOSEST ALLY’S equivalent…. it is the height of diplomatic slights to not do so on a truly formal basis……kinda send the message that the “new” administration values the relationship…..and being as there is a LARGE portion of the State Dept dedicted to diplomatic protocol….. I know how I would feel if I was Gordon Brown….. and that would be sure I’ll work with the Americans…. but Fuck that Barack guy

I don’t know how Gordon Brown feels about it, but what you say is indeed plausible. However I still believe there’s a chance that what Brown is mostly pissed off about is the missed photo-op, and that he’s now in the midst of planning a fool-proof way of getting that at the NATO summit.

Well how would you feel if you were Gordon Brown? I know how I’d feel…. you see these guys are supposed to be professionals…. politics and “diplomacy” are thier meat and taters….and seeing that (just as in theatre) diplomacy communicates through the “show” & decorum (protocol) I think it is very reasoable to draw a conclusion of value according to how ones host behaves….

And If I was Gordon Brown…… Bama would be on my shit list…

I’ve long referred to Stevia™ as “the Special Olympics of artificial sweeteners”, so I really can’t slam Jugears over his Leno flub.

…that said, the double standard exhibited by the MSM is striking. Someone mentioned Rush Limbaugh’s McNabb remarks awhile back. The same case could be made about Bongo: there’s a lot of hope invested in him, in having the First Black President® do well, etc.

I know you put a smiley in there, but I feel there is an important point here, so I’m going to take it seriously.

I don’t think people here are hoping this is a trend (at least I darned well hope not!). I think they are expecting this to be a trend based on the information from the campaign (that was largely ignored) and more importantly, his actions since.

I hope he breaks this trend, but at the moment I don’t see any evidence of it (admittedly I haven’t had time to really look recently).
