Hard Hats
It seems like we’re not the only ones concerned about the ever increasingly insane Loony Left who have already passed from ideology to pathology.
Things will only get worse, we’re afraid, and LC & IB Smoke on the Water remembers an election a long time ago. Go read.
Will we see the same happening again?

Excellent post by Smoke. I was born in 1968. But this time I’ll be ready. I won’t START anything, but by God, I’ll finish it. And if the extreme left wants to start a Civil War, then Eugene goes from being Liberal Hell to Target-Rich Environment.
Heh, my blog-bro Jim is a pistol, ain’t he?

It is true that in ’68 you had to be very knowledgeable to decipher the news….now its so easy if you just keep reading.
Remembering 1968 though, I have to say that now is much, much worse.
1968?
or 1861?
Outstanding post! Thanks for the link, I feel like I learned something. Like LC BB, I too was a late ’68 model (3 November, no less) and I feel like I missed out on so much. I work in an office full of baby boomers who describe this sort of thing to me all the time, although not quite the same way LC SOTW does. A useful history lesson that won’t be lost on this “evil neo-con.”
1968, definitely. 1861 was much more regional, with both sides stubborn, but rational.
This has the feeling of impending wholesale riots. Watch the Republican convention, especially.
Mike,
Good point. I think what I meant was in regards to just how great a threat to the future of the nation as a whole it will become. Again, I am young, so all I can go on is what I’ve learned, and of course the schools I attended glossed over how great a threat to our country the Left was in 68.
Holy fuck. You people really are fucking insane. Talk about raving, drooling moonbats – listen to yourselves.
Is the left an imminent threat? Do they harbor weapons of mass destruction? Why don’t you declare war on the left, if they are such a threat, you fucking spineless raving pussies
Have been for some time.
Apparently you’ve never smelled the Patchouli wafting from the Oregon Country Fair.
We’re lazy, we’ll just let them come to us.
Bring it Mudpuppy.
Now, That’s funny!
I never thought I’d live to see the day when patchouli out stunck the barns!
Y’know that old saying about Christmas in July?
I guess today’s the day for me then! Hell, not only the honor of a Rottalanche, but an Instalanche too? Dayum!
Misha, thanks mi amigo for the linkage, and the friendship. I’ve no doubt of where you and your loyal crew would stand should the need arise.
I’m equally confident that we all pray that such a day never dawns.
What confounds the moonbats of the world, is that they cannot differentiate preparedness from desire. Pity. Because we prepare to face that which we surely do not desire.
It is when faced with a pepared populace, that the rabble will slink back to their socialist lairs. And it is when the see the opportunity of no preparedness, that the leftist slime oozes onto our streets, with Bush=Hitler placards in hand, whipping themselves into ’68ish frenzies.
And riots just aren’t protected speech under the First Amendment. The left seems to forget that. Seattle is but a recent example.
Unchecked, the left mistakes bemused tolerence with quiet approval. And like I said in my post, they’ll soon hear our roar of condemneation of their causes.
From the ballot boxes.
And we’ll just have to wait and see what they do next.

Poor fwoggy….the drugs are just not working. There’s nothing sadder than to see an amphibian going off the deep end.
Aw, how cute! It’s trying to reason! Unfortunately, since it’s sharp as a soup spoon, it can’t reason and spell at the same time.
But it should be congratulated on a good first effort!
mike moor is a dumfuk he lies a lot and hats freedum too he is big an fat an eats doritos for brekfest an eats donuts too
Anyone hear that licking toads has hallucinogenic effects?
Ahhh..well that explains Froggy’s ramblings. He’s not using that tongue of his just to catch flies.
What do you want to bet froggy’s never been licked?
All right, all right, already! I get the message! I will sell the insane little bidet-licker Froggy some higher-quality dope. I am taking a loss here, mind you! But seeing the poor sot completely lose his already puny mind just breaks this old pimp’s heart.
Well I for one am too young to have been around in 1968. I do detect what he’s saying. I think its coming. I don’t know if its at that point yet, but if the polls start showing a Bush lead before the convention, I wouldn’t doubt there would be riots.
I believe if the President wins again, they will be at a point where they may go bezerk. There is no telling what they will do. I’ve never seen this kind of anger leveled at the President.
It seems it truly is Good vs. Evil. Watch the actions of the two sides. Compare the demeanor and temperment of the sides, especially the “fringe” of both, FreeRepublic, and DemocratUnderground. There is a huge difference in civility, vulgarity, mean spiritedness, and all out hostility.

Cultural warfare is still warfare, and indoctrination is the A-Bomb of cultural warfare.
Since the ALF firebombings are attacks on the future and heritage of science and teachnology in the US, why aren’t those terrorist fucks hunted down like the plague-ridden rats they are?
Eric,
Because many people in America would be very uncomfortable to find out they were supporting domestic terrorists by giving money to the Sierra Club and GreenPeace. ALF/ELF get most of their visible funds from SC and GP (by those two organisations own records), and many people donate to SC and GP because they “care about the environment”.
It was GreenPeace, of all things, that turned me into a conservative. I used to be a member, and had received my second GreenPeace newsletter. Along the bottom of a page, highlighted, was a quick statistical blurb about how many species had become extinct in the last 100 years. It was amazing. Not two days before, I had seen a scientific journal, the same one that GP cited for their statistics, DIRECTLY CONTRADICT GREENPEACE’S ASSERTION ON THE RATE OF EXTINCTION! It seems GreenPeace had flipped the numbers to make them seem scarier. So, if they were wrong on that, what else were they wrong on? So, I looked up ALL of the facts in that GreenPeace newsletter, and found not one, meaning NONE, that were correct. And I used the same sources that GreenPeace did. So, if I had been lied to by GreenPeace, what other “liberal” organisations had lied to me? So, I looked up some facts from some other organisations, using the same sources, and found that THEY had lied to me as well! So, if all these organisations I had supported had lied to me, why were they lying? And if everything they told me was a lie, why did I agree with them?
Logical progressions are a bitch, when you are a liberal. But, liberals can stay in shape with their mental gymnastics, verbal contortions, jumping to conclusions, flying off the handle, and beating a dead horse. They won’t be very smart, but they are certainly in shape. (Random qoute from my youth: “You worms will get off my island one of two ways; smart, or dumb and strong”)
You should see all the moonbats at the country fair, everybody is peacefully smoking their dope. There are three types of boobies to see publicly: saucer shaped boobies, cup shaped boobies, and bottle shaped boobies (loosely hanging boobes which can hold entire book shelves beneath, cup shaped boobies just hold pencils liberally). Boobies are allowed to roam freely around town and are often painted decoratively with floral motifs and other woodsy designs. Some anarchists and devils are also predating on unsuspecting females or defensless young males.
Over all the situation is boringly peacefull there. The athmosphere is a lack of intensity and overall an understimulation of the cute lil psycho mind.
Bands play relatively low key music – no intensity what so ever. So I can’t see how many of these moonbats are leftists, they don’t harbor weapons of mass detruction nor any kind of other dangerous equipment.
The interlude of friendly discussions in the tent of altered states is rarely a threat to the mighty emperor and his powerful guard.
People are so peaceful that they think of themselves having achieved a quantum leap towards higher consciousness.
I bet you can’t bear this type of peopel and would love to eradicate them all together from the planet, because they don’t like Butch.
I bet love, peace, happiness and harmony is not for everybody and will therefore be ridiculed by the mighty
meanies out there.
That’s just fine – stay on the net and vent. People out there, the leftists or how you call everybody who does not think as you do, may be rather loving. You would be surprised – if you can open you hearts to the boring lovingness of the Oregon Country Fair Fairies.
I have a half baked theory.
I’m no writer so this may not make sense.
I enlisted in ’70. I saw guys
I labeled coward dodging the draft in Canada.
After the amnesty granted by “that limp dick
ain’t my CIC” Carter, most of those pukes
suffered from such guilt they went insane
and morphed into the Johnny Weedseeds of the LL.
They infiltrated the ESTABLISHMENT as lawyers, teachers and reporters with a goal of legislating and indoctrinating America into their alternate reality.
Now,
The SDS types weren’t total cowards-they would fight-but they were such spoiled brats they were afraid be too far away from mommies teat & daddies
checkbook. So What to DO? Well, bust other peoples stuff of course. Gradually becoming
things like move-on, DU and a.n.s.w.e.r.
Like I said, it’s only a half-baked idea;
but I seem to observe similar things today.
This time I hope the silent majority Smacks the snot out of them at the polls.
(down deep I wish it could be ClueBats & .44mags)
You see I still remember coming home in ’73…

LC the Humble Devildog, don’t forget all the money PETA gave to one of the ALF firebombers. Penn and Teller’s Bullshit said it was something on the order of 70k.
But then plenty of people see PETA as nearly as a terrorist orginization.
Eric,
I don’t have Showtime, so I’ve only been able to see one P&T Bullshit episode. While I disagree with them on many political topics, the one episode I did see seemed to show that they are as disgusted with the far-left as I am.
I was not aware that P(eople)E(ating)T(asty)A(nimals) had given any money, much less that much, to ALF/ELF, but I can’t say I’m suprised. I seem to remember that ALF started out as some PETA freaks who thought that damaging personal property, one person at a time, was too slow. Kind of like the schisms in the IRA. (Am I the only one whose noticed the IRA seems to have quieted down since 09/11/01? Maybe they were told to “knock it off!” by certain wealthy backers?) PETA is probably happy for ALF/ELF, because ALF/ELF does the things that PETA is too yellow to do.
Tree-fucking bunny-huggers piss me off.

Hello Mr. Huh? You are impressive in your positive attitude towards life. You will be assimilated.
It seems like we’re not the only ones concerned about the ever increasingly insane Loony Left who have already passed from ideology to pathology.
Seeing this sort of stuff around here makes me laugh.
Well, Jesse’s comments – if they’re serious at all – are the sort of nonsense one regularly hears from the left about the right. We hate laughter (as Whoopi Goldberg so eloquently pointed out in her expletive-soaked Kerry Parteitag t’other night), we hate the elderly, we only like black people to take photos with, and so on. Utterly ridiculous, of course, much as some of the invective here about the left is off base. Not every Democrat is a treasonous, patchouli-soaked, spittle-flecked moonbat wiping their ass with Old Glory – just the vast majority (m’heh!).
However -
I don’t remember a great deal about 1968, but it’s instructive to read some of the books from the era. Almost all of them, to one dgree or another, accepted it as fact that we were headed for a race war, a Constitutional crisis or a complete breakdown of American society, and there was nothing that could be done about it. Some of that poison was drained out of the body politic by the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam (thank you, Richard Nixon!) and more by the change of administrations. But looking back on a novel such as The Blue Knight or Report From Engine Company 82, it is amazing how many sober, thoughtful people were convinced the America of 1970 (let alone 2004) would be a smoking dystopia of Wattses and Bed-Stys. Things always look dark when you’re in the middle of them, and I wonder if perhaps we will look back at 2004 much as we do now the blacker ravings of 1968 – with an amused detachment that people could have been so worried and lack trust in the American democratic system.
Which is not to say that my esteemed colleague Jim is wrong in what he says. There’s a great deal of bile and hatred out there this year, and the lamestream media have no compunction about shoving it in our faces. To use a parochial example, this morning’s Boston Globe (Pravda on the Charles) has a story in the “Living” section about high school kids studying The Inferno and making art projects to illustrate their take on it. All, of course, are pictures of the devil GWB, US bombs wiping out peaceful civilians and grinning Dick Cheneys bathing in rivers of oil and blood. In the editorials, the paper sneers at the report that there was no pressure to produce findings supportive of the administrations war aims (because we all know such pressure is applied subtly so it cannot be traced) and letter after letter has people sneering at the government’s latest terror warnings; isn’t it conveeeeenient that the threat level is upped just when John-John Edwards brings his energy, youth and vigor to the Kerry juggernaut? My fear is that even if there is another terrorist attack before the elections, a significant number of people will seriously believe it to be a CIA black operation to stampede people into voting for Bush, and the media (much as TNR is doing now with its conspiracy theories) will give these “brave dissenters” face time to spew their crackpot poison.
In short (he says, after wasting the Emperor’s bandwith), a lot to worry about, yes. I won’t be comfortable until W crushes Kerry. But it will be instructive to see how far the madness of the left progresses until (or if) the fever breaks.
Sorry for the disjointed rambling – I haven’t had my second cup of tea or first cigar yet this morning!
First, Good Emperor, see LC Smoke’s last line about keeping the ship off the rocks as the first priority. A lot of us (including you and I) may not totally happy with Bush, but he has to win in November. In fact, he has to win in a landslide, sweeping in with him about 10 more senators. THEN we’ll see what happens with judicial appointments, oil in Alaska, imigration, and lots of other fun things. I’m not a Republican, but for the first time in my life I’m pulling the “R” lever.
Secondly and more to LC Smoke’s post re the Hard Hats. I only dimly remember that time, but there’s a big difference between then and now. A lot of those hippies in the streets then are now in power, elected offices, and teaching our children. They have money. They are masters of using the media to shape public opinion and courts to get their way if that fails.
They behave as if their way is right and the natural order, the only possible result of “progress”. They cannot even accept legal elections with results going against them. It’s a Holy War to them. Liberalism is is the One True Religion to them.
How are they going to react in November when their ass is handed to them?
The won’t quietly say “wait until next time”. They will claim Bush rigged another election, because he couldn’t have possibly actually won. It will be all they’ve been setting up for, The End Of The World As They Know It. Some of them will go insane.
I fully expect mass protests at the least. They’ve already made threats and done damage, so serious violence is likely. When broken up and arrested they’ll cry it’s proof that all they say it true. Don’t be surprised if it creates a real, well-organized, well funded domestic revolutionary terrorist group or groups on a scale that makes the 60s-70s radicals look childish.
That’s when the Hard Hats will come out again.
I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I wouldn’t hold out much hope for Hard Hats, Part Deux anytime soon. I have been on many construction sites in the last few years, and the hard-hats are almost evenly mixed between working class stiffs, and LLL’s. At least around here. Remember, the new crop of hard hats have been “educated” in public schools, and I have heard a trim-carpenter, who was just out of high-school, say “I would never fight a war for George Bush. He’s an idiot!” This from a person who didn’t know that FDR was a Democrat…or that we fought the Viet Nam War in Viet Nam…or who we fought during the American Revolution…or who we fought in the US Civil War… Many of the hard hats I’ve chatted with in the past three years ARE patriotic, and don’t like the Dummycrats, but the new ones….
I read Jim’s post yesterday (and a Mighty Fine one it is Jim), and it got me thinking (no jokes please).
Maybe we all need to organize our own Hard Hart Revolution. Pick a day (maybe to coincide with the Dementocrap’s Convention in Boston?) and we picket Kerry headquarters in our respective cities. We all buy Halliburton Hard Hats, a tool belt in which to hang our BFWs (Big Fucking Wrench), just in case a Liberal tries to develop balls and oppose us, and carry sign that say “Kerry is a Traitor to America”, “Hard Working People Want America NOT to Be a Socialist Country”, “A Vote for Kerry is a Vote for the UN”… Until the “Undecided Middle” see that normal Americans oppose Kerry and his Leftist agenda, they will swallow his Bullshit and believe it. It is Time for us to speak out in public, and a Hard Hat revolution is a way.
Mr Minority – Already an Owner of a Hard Hat and a BFW
Humble Devildog, I wouldn’t worry too much.
The “hard hat” industries have a tendency to remove the PC leftist tripe out of all but the most stupid.
It just takes some hard work in the real world (and no, I’m not taking a shot at people in college) to clear the leftist fog inserted into the brains of young people by our vaunted publik skuul sistum.
The exception to this are the ones that are the “chronics”. (those who can’t function without copious amounts of weed)
Quote: “What makes you think I already haven’t, you limp-wristed, pansy-assed fucknozzle? Wanna be my first target, assmunch? (snicker)”
Yeah, that’s what I said, Mur-dickless. What of it?
(Bet he has a stinknozzle – do you bathe?)
Yes, I do. How’d you like me to dunk your ugly face in the bathwater so’s you can get a sip, eh?
Asshat.
I will make an open prediction here that if Bush wins in November, there will be rioting in San Francisco. Mild stuff if it’s a landslide. Massive, multi-million dollar destruction if it’s a squeaker.
I mean, the local moonbats here recently did $50,000 worth of damage during an “animal rights” parade…apparently just for fun.
Remember those mostly pissant anit-war protests? Those went away like smoke when they proved to be a miserable failure. But they’ll be back in the streets and really, REALLY mad when Bush wins. It won’t happen everywhere, mostly in liberal bastions like Frisco & Berkeley, but it will. When I refered to hard hats I wasn’t just talking about real construction worker types. I was talking about people like me that are sick to death of this childishness. If they come marching down my street raising hell, they’ll find me waiting for them.
What I’m worried about is them actually getting organized, funded, and doing things much more dangerous than street riots. If that happens, the Democratic Party will bear much of the blame for fanning those fires, like Dean’s mentioning his interest in the “Bush knew” theory.
Toren, I had said much the same thing in a comment to Jims post. If it is a squeeker, stand by cause it aint gonna be pretty. If they can *engineer* the election results via an activist judge or some other form of legal manuver, it will be tried. Failing that, well, I don’t know. There is a lot of hate out there and they are gonna have to find a way to release it. Unlike the 60′s it aint going to be flowers in their hair and peace signs….
We shall see my friend. perhaps they will just fold up their tents in the middle of the night, having given up the game, and gone home….but I doubt it.
“I was talking about people like me that are sick to death of this childishness. If they come marching down my street raising hell, they’ll find me waiting for them.”
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that it was considered “childishness” to express how you feel in this country. You have a problem with people whose views differ from yours? Are you that arrogant to believe that only you and your conservative cronies’ idealogies can be correct? You people cling onto the notion that just because Bush is President, we should lend him our total, unwavering support especially in a time of war. What you fail to realize is that he had that support, what seems to be a very long time ago, but, nevertheless he did have bipartisan support for his efforts. Only when his motives and justifications were called into question did Bush begin to lose the support of this nation.
bobbel – Express views away.. That’s what’s great about our country.
However, surely you are not so naive to actually believe what you just typed.. Bush had bipartisan support? That is some complete horseshit.. 9/11 made the Bush-haters go back under political cover for a while since any anti-Bush rhetoric would just backfire on them.
Meanwhile, the populace itself was too busy freaking out to say much.. Once the typical ‘It’s been two months so let’s forget the whole thing’ USA crap started in, people started showing their true colors again..
bobbelavaqua: “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that it was considered “childishness” to express how you feel in this country.
I wasn’t talking about peaceful protestors, I was talking about rioters. Carrying a sign does not turn one into the other. Peacable assembly is a right. Street violence is a crime. If you don’t see the difference, there’s nothing more for us to discuss.
For the record, no I do not believe the current or any president automatically gets unconditional support under ANY conditions. God knows during the Clinton years I was feeling pretty disenfranchised and believe it or not I DO know how many on the other side are feeling about now.
But I never then or would I ever commit or even threaten violence against innocent people or their property because I?m not happy with the way things are. THAT is CHILDISH and deserves to be SPANKED. NO law gives anyone the right to do harm as an expression of free speech.
And before you start, I know no law gives me the right to be the spanker either. But if you?re going to crawl down to that level, I?ll be right behind you.
1968 – I was twelve years old and scared shitless. Vietnam was happening, politicians and other people were getting killed on a regular basis, and the cities seemed to be in flames.
2004 – I’m 48, a husband and father, and madder than hell. Thirty-six years ago, all I could have done was watch if someone tried to take my freedoms away. Now, as we are so fond of saying here, molon labe. One of us won’t leave alive.
